KaijuNES: Armageddon Deferred

Incident 2.2 – February 6, 2043, 1200 Local Time – Morra Förfölja Evades Detection, and Contemporary Events

The rollout of the first completed prototype of the AntiKBot was a major event for Hansey Labs. The machine achieved widespread attention in its first demonstrations. It was a unique design, to say the least. Humanoid and five meters in height, the robot towered over its creators, although it remained toy-sized next to a Kaiju. The design was highly modular, though the prototype was equipped quipped with state of the art sensors, dual forelimb cannons, shoulder cannons, jump jets and a 'utility belt' of various extra modules which the AntiKBot could attach and remove from itself.

The prototype demonstrated its advanced mobility systems before a small audience, and then took part in a mock-battle with an animatronic Kaiju puppet. All was going well until the robot inexplicably deactivated. At the time of the press conference, this was explained away as a case of 'still in beta', although later investigation revealed the shutdown to have far more troublesome implications. Simultaneously to the demonstration, Hansey Labs was subjected to a cyberattack. It is unclear whether or not any data was stolen, although the crypto-nerds who make up a large portion of the AI development team remain fairly confident that their security systems have rendered much of the data useless. Backups were quickly engaged, and all in all very little data was actually lost. Hansey Labs have opted to take this event as a warning, and are now reviewing their information security systems to see what might be improved.

Investigations into the source of the attack point to tech-savvy opponents of the weaponization of artificial intelligences. An alternative hypothesis is that the attack originated from another company or government, who possessed an interest in the activities of the Lab. At any rate, it is regarded as highly unlikely that the individuals responsible for this action will ever be apprehended.

*****

BioTech Industries also faced difficulties of a somewhat more violent sort. As Valland's attention was drawn north to the ruins of North Head, on an early morning on the 5th of February an armed group engaged security in a firefight and invaded a BTI facility in Goldfoss. The Company's President, Richard Hawthorne, has been informed of the deaths of two security guards, the injury of the injury of one more security guard and two scientists, severe vandalism and destruction to materials throughout the lab, and the outright removal of numerous Kaiju tissue samples and synthesized armour fragments.

For BioTech Industries, the damage has been far more severe than was the case for Hansey Labs. The damage to expensive equipment has been immense, and the thousands of carefully-prepared microscope slides of different kaiju tissues and organs, taken from Kaiser Schield when its body was still freshly killed, may prove to be nigh-near irreplaceable. Worsening matters, hundreds of spoiled experiments will now have to be started over from scratch, if the proper raw materials can even be acquired again.

The grief of the researchers is palpable.

Admiral Logan's Vallandic Central Fleet reached North Head without incident. While he was grateful to not have to deal with yet another Kaiju attack en route, he was simultaneously frustrated to find no sign of Morra Förfölja whatsoever.

Fresh Face's rehabilitation had been going well. He'd always been in a rough situation- never enough power amongst the Super-Serious Exterminators to escape abuse, but just enough influence in the organization to be found culpable for the organization's actions. With that said, he'd managed to establish an online support network, and did maintain minor celebrity status amongst those who continued to view the Exterminators as heroic defenders of Valland. A small crowd of 20 gathered to celebrate his release. After some alcohol was imbibed, a pair of enthusiastic female fans were even kind enough to bring him into 'their place' for 'something special'.

Shortly thereafter, Fresh Face woke to find himself locked inside a small, dimly-lit yellow room. A light flicked on, and a black-clad female figure, eyes obscured by sunglasses, sat down in a chair opposite him.

“Agent of the 'Super-Serious Exterminators, alias 'Fresh Face'. Am I correct?”

“Where am I?”

“You took a trip to the United States of America, and have since been detained.”

“I didn't take a trip to America.”

“That's not what your passport says.”

The interrogator held out a stamped page and several papers for his perusal.

“That... does look a lot like my signature.”

“It certainly does, doesn't it? Now, any more questions before I proceed with our interview?”

Fresh Face paused, and looked nervously around the room.

“Did I... um... those two girls?”

“Georgia and Wisconsin? Definitely not.”

The rehabilitation had been going so well.

As the fires of North Head were at last extinguished, and the last buildings were cleared of frozen, drowned bodies, the death tolls of the North Head Incident began to level off. More would die due to complications from hypothermia, but the worst of this attack was over. However, there was no sweet sense of victory to be found here. There was no dead body of a Kaiju to serve as a trophy, no iconic hero to rally around. There wasn't even a President of the United States, visiting to make a bombastic speech. There was only horror at what had happened, and dread for what awaited the people of Valland.

Final Death Toll: 7456

End of Incident 2: The North Head Event

Gabriel Wright awoke with a gasp. Bad dreams and all.

The image still burned in his eyes, that first glimpse of the dead and the half-dead underneath North Head. The shivers and whimpers of the near-dead mocked him, as if the Kaiju itself was taunting, sneering at the captain.

Wright glanced over at the wall. 3:27 AM. Not the best time to be awake when you're dead tired. Beneath the clock, a small tidy shelf with various medals and honors that he had received. Two medals for the incident with Kaiser Schield had been tidily arranged next to his older medals, and the shiny new metal gleamed in the moonlight that cascaded through the blinds.

Wright looked over at the small television in his apartment. The media had been showering him with praise for his 'heroics' in the first Kaiju attack, but whenever Wright thought back to that chaotic day, all he could think of was Tomlinson.

Tomlinson's grief, to be precise. The truck that his son was in had crashed in the chaos surrounding the evacuation, and though Kaiser Schield did him no harm, the crash rendered him comatose. The two times that Wright visited in the hospital, Tomlinson had been silent, staring at his son with cold, unmoving eyes. It was almost as if he had gone into a coma along with his child. Wright made some followup calls, but last he heard, the boy was still comatose, and Tomlinson still crushed.

Getting out of his bed, Wright shuffled over to his desk and flicked on the lamp. The flood of light blinded him momentarily, but as his eyes adjusted, the paperwork strewn over his desk became visible again. Incident reports for the attack on North Head. Wright flashed back to the half-frozen mass of bodies floating in the water, and grimaced. It would take a lot of time to forget that image. Time and alcohol. He sat down and got to work. Sleep wasn't coming for him that night.

Morning greeted Captain Wright as he finished off the last page of his reports. Standing up, he did a couple of stretches before heading to the kitchen to turn on the coffee machine.

"Thank god for Tassimo.", thought Wright to himself. "Best seventy dollars I ever spent."

The captain walked over to the front door, his body getting more accustomed to movement after the long stint in the chair. The newspaper had been shoved under the door, and as he bent down to pick it up, his back cracked in a couple spots.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh."

Strangely therapeutic. Returning to retrieve his beverage, Wright made his way over to the couch, and sipped on the coffee before setting it down on the table beside him.

"Not much today.", noted Wright.

The obituary section was finally decreasing, though he was undecided if that was a good thing.

"Either people are getting better, or everyone who was 'rescued' from North Head finally kicked the bucket."

Grim thoughts, he noted. The rest of the newspaper was boring as ever, though the Sudoku puzzle stumped him for a minute. He was far better with the crosswords than the numbers game.

A shower, a close encounter with his razor, and a quick piss later, Wright got into his uniform and left for work, dismal paperwork in tow.

********

Wright drove cautiously down the winding streets near his apartment. It'd take approximately twenty-two minutes to reach the garrison. He leaned over to turn on the radio, but just as he was about to push the button, his cell phone started vibrating.

"Ah , I forgot to enable Bluetooth again." He pulled over.

Slipping his phone out of his pocket, he noted that the caller was his direct superior, Major Sorensson.

"Wright, where the hell are you?"

Sorensson's voice was always calm and collected, but Wright could clearly detect frustration.

"I'm on my way to the garrison. What's going on?"

"You know Hansey Labs? The prototype they unveiled a few days ago? The one that de-activated halfway through?"

"Yes, yes, and yes. I happen to keep up with important scientific breakthroughs with military uses, I'll have you know."

Wright's voice dripped with sarcasm.

"Well, the higher ups happen to think that a robot just isn't going to cut it. They want human control, and I don't just mean a remote control. They're pushing for something like an exoskeleton, but bigger. Way bigger. Big enough to fight a damned Kaiju, to say the least."

"I appreciate you letting me know, but what on earth does this have to do with me?"

Wright looked at the clock. He'd just barely be late. Setting his phone to speakers, he set it down in one of the higher cupholders. Wright pulled away from the curb, driving slightly faster than before.

"They're of the opinion that you have some clout and credibility with the media after Kaiser. There's gonna be a press conference later today, and they want you there to speak. And by speak, I'm sure they mean nod your head and agree with whatever the hell they're saying. You've got an hour."

"I'll be there soon."

As the call ended, Wright was thinking about Hansey Labs and their robot. In a real fight, a failure like that would be catastrophic. An exoskeleton-like machine might function better. For once, Wright actually agreed with his superiors.

Though he hated the thought of being a poster boy for the military. Wright had been relieved when the media had stopped hounding him after Kaiser. The attention was flattering for all of five seconds before it got a bit irritating. And then a lot irritating. It took all the willpower he had to not punch the reporter who had been hiding behind a potted plant in the hallway outside his apartment.

********

As Wright pulled into the garrison, he noticed a couple news trucks parked nearby, and reporters getting their makeup done. An attempt to quietly sneak by surprisingly succeeded, for the most part. The reporters were too busy getting their makeup done and preparing for the camera that they didn't notice the Captain as he briskly made a bee-line for the entrance of the building.

"Thank god for that." Wright thought to himself.

Dropping off the paperwork at his desk, Wright made his way to the press room. Some staff were arranging the chairs in rows across from a large table, no doubt to be used for the panel of officers at the front of the room. Standing beside the wooden fixture were three officers and their aides, fairly high up the food chain if their uniforms were any indication.

"Ah, Captain Wright, glad to see you hear. I trust Sorensson briefed you on the matter?"

One of the officers had turned to greet Wright as he walked towards the elevated platform that the podium and the officers stood atop.

"Well, it was quite brief, Colonel Burrows." Thank god for nametags. "General Wallace, General Hansen, it's a pleasure to see you all."

"Basically, we need your support here. The military has been pushing for some form of sized-up exoskeleton, but the media hasn't really been giving it much thought. We're planning to use the Hansey Labs' prototype as a platform to convince the people, and the government, to fund the project."

Wright furrowed his brow. "So, you want me to convince the public that we need a pilot in a giant robot suit to fight these monsters?"

"It certainly sounds trivial when you say it like that, but in essence, yes. Conventional weapons just aren't cutting it. We need something adaptable, something... more human, shall we say."

"If you insist. I'll do as I'm ordered."

********

The first half of the press conference was a rather dull affair. Updated casualty reports, reconstruction updates in Farrey, numbers, numbers, and more numbers. To be honest, Wright really wasn't paying much attention.

"Captain Wright? Captain Wright?"

The voice calling to him shook him from his bored stupor.

"I'm sorry, could you repeat the question?" He really hoped that it was actually a question.

"The question was about your thoughts on foreign intervention in what might otherwise be deemed as a Vallandic issue."

"Well, I think it's a safe assumption that these creatures pose not only a threat to our nation, but to all nations. Frankly, I think we know too little about them to make a firm statement, but it seems unlikely that these beasts would target one nation, and one nation alone."

The press secretary cleared her throat, and announced a move towards the next item on the agenda.

"... Hansey Labs' prototype, dubbed the AntiKBot." Wright was only half listening until they mentioned Hansey Labs.

A reporter raised his hand, and the secretary gave him the first question.

"What are the military's thoughts on the sudden deactivation of the AntiKBot in the trial run?"

Wallace, Hansen and Burrows turned their eyes towards Wright, and soon after, the entire room was watching him closely.

"Well, I'll start off by saying that Hansey Labs is doing some incredible work and making some real progress in developing effective anti-Kaiju weaponry. However, the trial run demonstrated a real flaw in the concept. As intelligent as artificial intelligence can get, it's can still be exposed to glitches and issues that render it ineffective. In the case that Kaiju are wreaking havoc across one of our cities, we can't afford to take that chance. It is the official view of the military that we need to incorporate a more human element into the mix. With human control, not just through external means, whatever robot or machine that we produce would be far more adaptable to Kaiju attacks. From what we've seen thus far, the Kaiju have different methods and different appearances. It's logical that they pose different threats as well, and a programmed drone may not be able to fully and effectively combat those threats. Thus, the military advocates for the construction of a large scale exoskeleton, internally controlled by a trained and skilled pilot. Obviously, this is a large scale project that will take quite some time, but we feel that this is the best course of action given the unpredictability of the threat that we face. If we are to face the monsters that are at are door, then we will create monsters of our own."

The reporters scribbled their notes down frantically.

Tests and improvements to the prototype AntiKBot are continued, as well as a massive security system update and the installment of extremely powerful firewalls in both the AntiKBot's AI programming as well as the computer systems.

It might also be worthwhile to follow up on Ophorian's story mrrandomplayer! The military is interested in developing your weapons platform into a piloted vehicle.

Secure Communication Log

D.S.: Testing of the new prototype weapons is complete. Although our agents could not obtain clear schematics, we believe that this prototype will be effective in destroying all forms of mobile-weapons platform that the other major parties in the world are developing. Unfortunately, the limited amount of Kaiser-material that we have in our possession prohibits mass-manufacturing.

C.Z.: I thought you said that you will have that problem sorted out, Director.

T.H.: The bio-lab in Valland with interesting data was already hit by the time our own agents arrived. There was nothing to recover. It is likely that the same people were also responsible for the hit on Hansey Labs.

D.S.: Director, must I need to inform you on the implication of this technology?

T.H.: Spare me your science, doctor. You and your lab can focus more on manipulating and shaping kaiser material. Maybe some other labs in Europe will figure out how to make more Kaiser material. In the meantime, I am directing the Interpol and our intelligence bureaus to figure out whoever did this.

C.Z.: Tell us as soon as you find something, Director.

"I'm sorry, sir." Michael said after reporting the incident in Goldfoss. Now Richard was in front of all the major shareholders, all wondering about the damages caused by the attack.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we were attacked. Our work was almost totally destroyed. Lives were lost. However, the biggest loss belongs to the government of Valland, owner of the lost samples. And we will use this incident as an excuse for my new plan, which is to create armored divisions under the control of our company. The government probably will not object, since in these tumultuous times they can not even protect its population, and that after the incident in the lab would be appropriate that we could protect ourselves."

"What do you mean by armored divisions?" Asked one of the shareholders.

"Heavily armed groups in the service of our company. Skill and efficiency over quantity."

"Mercenaries?" Said one of the shareholders with a heightened voice.

"That depends on your point of view. If you think heavily armed and trained security guards who work solely for our company are called mercenaries, whatever. The issue is that these mercenaries will protect not only our company but will also be useful to put into practice our future military weaponry."

"How do you plan to find these mercenaries?" Said one of the major shareholders.

"Good question sir, but I assure you that skillful military men looking for work are not rare in these times. Many have lost loved ones to Kaijus. I will offer them revenge."

After, there were several discussions, but Richard was confident. Those men trusted him, and his ability to make money.

Reading over the suggestions, and after having a think about it, I still want to maintain my Kaiju's role in history, if downplayed a bit. This is because that is a key point in her motivation in causing havoc and destruction in Valland. If she isn't allowed it, then why would she bother destroying stuff over there, anyway? That would be like Huntington just ignoring the Kaiju threat, and instead focuses on business involving his company, which gives nothing to the plot, whatsoever. However, making her more beast-like is something I will accept, and so she would be like a minotaur, substituting the Bull features for that of a Cat, if that makes her not so 'human'.

Also, while the Imperial Terrorists and the Shogunate Kaiju might not work together out of context, this more or less become a equivalent of a Enemy Mine as their hatred for the Western world join their forces together. The reason why Valland is because conflict does occur, as the Terrorists demands that the United States is the one to be attacked, while the Kaiju seems to be hostile to any movements away from Europe, causing the ship to sail to Valland, which is in the middle of the two by being in the middle of the Atlantic.

Hansey Labs is considering selling some weapons technology to the Vallandian military, but is wary after the recent crash in systems.

This is a question that I can answer with two words.

She wouldn't.

If I see the motivation in the other kaijus correctly, they don't really give a flying f*ck about humanity. They are carrying out other bestial desires that, ultimately, has nothing to do with humanity.

Kaiser? He wasn't trying to kill humans. He was just trying to knock down some obstructions as per his nesting behavior.

Mora? He wasn't trying to kill humans. He was just trying to get at some delicious delicious metal from the smelters before he realized that it was too hot to eat.

None of the kaijus so far really WANTED a direct confrontation with humanity. They simply didn't care that they were causing immense devastation.

Now let's say that you don't want to make your kaiju *that* bestial. Let's say that you want to make it near-sentient. If that is the case, then yes, you would need to provide a reason why it's causing devastation on humanity.

Note that I said "causing" devastation, instead of "desiring" devastation. You see, what a kaiju "desires" is something that I really can't be bothered to deal with. What you are trying to do when you talk about your kaiju "bothering to cause devastation" and compare her to Huntington is to put a human emotion on a beast when it needs none.

So "Why" is your kaiju causing devastation?

That would be like Huntington just ignoring the Kaiju threat, and instead focuses on business involving his company, which gives nothing to the plot, whatsoever. However, making her more beast-like is something I will accept, and so she would be like a minotaur, substituting the Bull features for that of a Cat, if that makes her not so 'human'.

I'm not sure that I'll be able to comment on it before you post them, but here goes.

A minotaur is still too human in my eyes. When I think of a minotaur, I instantly think "a man with a bull's head." A man can easily pretend to be a minotaur by putting on a bull's mask.

Don't make something that's "half-man, half-something else." Make something that's definitely not human.

I'm going to be blunt. I don't have a problem with Imperial Terrorists I really don't. I have a problem with a shogunate Kaiju. Kaiju shouldn't be Shogunate. I'm opposed to this entire idea. Let me answer your tvtropes reference with another.

Here.

You making your kaiju a shogunate, in my opinion, is akin to making vampires sparkle. Making it work together with some measly humans feels so...off...that I can't even describe how off it is with my limited vocabulary. You are going against the CORE of what alien-like monster is.

OOC: My wife and I finally watched the show today, really opened my eyes to the immensity of these Kaijus. I knew they were big, but I guess I never thought they were that big. :p I highly recommend that SmithRobloxian watch it for inspiration. In case you are not aware, the movie is called Pacific Rim, and you can get it from Redbox or your local movie rental store.

IC:

Admiral Logan sighed, the landing was difficult, a blizzard set in as the helicopter neared North Head, two times his pilots missed the landing before finally nailing it, barely. Admiral Logan peered through the chopper window and spotted the Captain and his officers standing near the doorway, deck crew-members raced around the slowly rotating blades, still being spun, mostly by the wind before the flight crew pulled the brakes. Logan sighed, closed up his coat and tapped the window, a deck crewman quickly opened the door and Logan suddenly shivered as a strong gust of wind slammed into him. He jumped out and strode purposefully towards the Captain and his entourage, saying "Status update." as he passed.

The Captain saluted and spoke as they rushed down the corridor towards the bridge.

"Sir, none of the destroyers are reporting anything. They are calling off the search due to rough weather. The waves are getting stronger, the only submarine we have also reports nothing and continues to scour the area between Valland and the UK. The Central Fleet has passed through the shipping lanes and are now a full day away from us."

"How is it that our navy is not able to pick up this threat earlier?"

"Sir, we believe that this creature sounds similar to a whale or dolphin, which explains why our sonar operators ignored it. Not only that, sir, we believe there is a better way of tracking it. Something the Europeans apparently advised. We are monitoring sonar buoys for any anomalies, such as rapid temperature drops."

"Very well, but I want this ship moved to open waters. From this point on I will not allow this or any of our fleets to be centered in one location for long periods of time. These ships will enter port only to resupply and refuel and even then only 4 ships at a time. Is that clear?"

"Sir."

"Also, I am centralizing the fleets, this will allow me to better coordinate activity by the ships. I want a destroyer screen around the entire island. with Cruisers positioned near the major cities or entrances to the various bays or channels. I am thus promoting you to Commodore and placing the command of the Northern Squadron under you. Do not fail me like the last Commodore."

"Sir. I will not let you down."

"See to it that you do not. Dismissed."

Logan peered through the bridge windows as the snow continued to fall, the sea was inky black and in the distance he could see the destruction caused by the recent Kaiju attack. He sighed.

--------

2 days later, the Central Fleet had arrived during the night after a minor issue with a freighter who got lost when their compass malfunctioned. A destroyer was detached to guide the freighter to Copping for repairs. After the storm subsided, the destroyers went back out and hunted and searched a larger area, but still no clue as to the Kaiju's current location came up. So Logan called off the operation. Life returned to normal.... somewhat. His navy is stepping up patrols and he is planning to meet the Prime Minister in two days to discuss the future of the Navy.

The Central Fleet was ordered back to Copping where they were to begin patrols and screening operations, similar to the North Fleet. The Southern Fleet likewise received the same orders and saw the first real command of a Squadron by Zachary Logan, the eldest son of Admiral Logan who now commands from the VNS Vallandia, the Admiral's old flagship.

Search Mission. Target is a freighter that has been idling off the coast of Valland registered to a Chinese firm with known links to the PLAN. The ships attempts at running silent were picked up by the Vallandic navy but were dismissed as 'accidental' something about 'compass problems'. LCS-13 has been freed up for the snatch. EMP, IW and live-fire authorization requested.

We didn't start the fire...

A Briefing For CEO Hawthorne

The Government of Valland, which has placed much investment thusfar into BioTech Industries' developments, proposes that soldiers of the Vallandic Army serve as the security detail for BTI's operations.

Requisition Request for Hansey Labs

The Army of Valland has commissioned Hansey Labs to design a full-scale Anti-Kaiju Fighting Machine, similar to the prototype AntiKBot, but designed to house a human crew, rather than being a fully-autonomous robot.

Meeting Between Government and Military High Command

In a meeting between the heads of the Army, Navy and Air Force, Defense Minister Andrew Burke and Prime Minister David Thomas have once again brought up the idea of unifying the nation's military command. While the three branches are all loathe to subordinate themselves to one another, Army General Peter Helming floated the idea of establishing a clear division of roles in the event of further Kaiju attacks. By Helming's proposal, the navy's role shall be focused on providing a defensive perimeter around the island, detecting the approach of Kaiju, and providing constant heavy firepower against the beasts. The army's role shall be to evacuate the threatened areas, and take over command of the situation once the Kaiju has made landfall. Finally, the air force shall bombard the Kaiju at all points in the operation, liaising with the Admiral of the Fleet when the target is at sea, and the General of the Army when it is on land.

The presence of your military vessels in the Atlantic is unwanted. Should they enter our territorial waters, they will be dealt with as hostiles.

@SmithRobloxian- I'm going to nix the idea that any Kaiju has played a role in history. They simply haven't. They have not had an impact on the development of human civilization. They have not had anything but the most peripheral of contacts with the human race until the appearance of Kaiser Schield. Kaiju have not been involved with this world's story prior to the start of this NES, and I am absolutely not budging on that matter.

If your Kaiju needs to have motivations based off of of its past interactions with humans, then I'm afraid that your Kaiju, as proposed, simply does not fit inside the setting of this NES.

The motivations of Kaiju, particularly at this point in the story, are either animalistic, or opaque and alien to human understanding.

Given how our discussion about your Kaiju has gone up to this point, I don't think we're going to be able to bridge the gap between what I think makes sense in the context of this NES, and what you'd like to write about in this NES.

Again, Seon's views on this matter are in fairly close accord with my own, so it's valuable to listen to his critiques.

Hansey Labs begins making the manned robot by modifying the exoskeleton and moving parts around for the (cockpit?) or receivers. However, Hansey Labs also continues to work on the AntiKBot, taking advantage of the similarities between the two robots that they are working on to be able to work on both faster.

Due to the responses I got, I am ditching anything humane about my Kaiju, since nobody wants it to be. So, anything I thought for it are now transferred to characters in the Terrorist group in one form or another, while the Kaiju itself is reduced to a semi-feral bipedal humanoid feline. Anyone against it?

We also will hire private security guards, but in smaller numbers, unless our generous government accepts that such Valland troops become subjected to someone within the company. Obviously the government will still have the right to monitor our activities and send some officers to make sure that the troops are serving their purpose.

EU Internal Communique

Agent Ambrose and Valerie interrogated one of the guards inside the lab in the guise of Interpol detectives. The idiots left witnesses alive everywhere. The attackers appear to be Chinese. Chinese is a common second language for a great percentage of the people in this world and we would usually dismiss it as some other special operations force, but Vallandic navy recently spotted a Chinese military vessel idling near the coast of Valland. Circumstances lead us to suspect that something far more sinister is afoot.

Our agents in the Chinese embassy revealed that they have hired several people of Chinese nationality shortly after Kaiser made landfall. We believe that these personnel are special forces agent who are responsible for the strike on the biolab.

The possible political fallout makes us unable to take any direct action against China, but given your permission, we will be sending in our best agent to investigate our concerns.

Executive Order 449-C

Do it.

....................................................................................................................................................

The blasted Americans and the Chinese always took the most volatile of all approaches. The EU always was far more subtle.

"Alright, I'm in," Ambrose whispered into the comm. The Chinese military outfit itched as hell, and his face-camouflage was incredibly uncomfortable. "You are clear to emerge from the tunnel," Valerie's voice filtered in.

Overhead, a black-colored drone circled lazily over the embassy, staring at the structure with its multiple cameras. Valerie could see everyone and everything inside the building through its eyes: every guards patrolling its hallways, every worker sleeping in their quarters, and every single secret rooms including their emergency escape tunnel.

This technology existed for decades, but EU was the one which made this kind of surveillance technology into what was nearly an artform. If the EU wanted something found, they found it.

Ambrose used a small electronic signal jammer to disable the cameras and emerged from the tunnel. He loved operations like this. A long time ago, before the EU sought him out, he was known in the underground as Fang: an assassin with hundreds of kills to his name. Infiltrating fortified compounds and escaping was his specialty.

He breathed in the air of the embassy deeply and felt his heart beating rapidly as adrenaline kicked in. It was good to be back, doing the things that he loved doing. The contact lens in his eyes activated and began to highlight the location of every guard, cameras, and security devices within the compound.

"Child's play," he mumbled. He already planted EU's bugs in the escape tunnel. He would plant some more in their server room and the rooftop, allowing the EU to listen in on any kind of data transfer happening in the embassy. Furthermore, the device that he will plant on the server room would allow it to secretly begin copying and transmitting information to a secret EU information cache.

Hopefully, he would find evidence of the Chinese secret operations force as well.

He went to work.

However, Hansey Labs also continues to work on the AntiKBot, taking advantage of the similarities between the two robots that they are working on to be able to work on both faster.
We are very glad to hear it, and eagerly anticipate the completion of this combat platform.

I'm still not sure what a Japanese terror group is going to be doing in Valland, as their plan doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, but I do approve of the Kaiju design resembling a bipedal beast, which resembles a cat insofar as Kaiser Schield resembles a turtle. It might not be exactly like a cat, but I can accept something strongly reminiscent of one. :)

To Government of Valland:

We also will hire private security guards, but in smaller numbers, unless our generous government accepts that such Valland troops become subjected to someone within the company. Obviously the government will still have the right to monitor our activities and send some officers to make sure that the troops are serving their purpose.
Keep in mind that Valland has legislation limiting the possession and use of heavy weaponry by civilian organizations. We also take a dim view to the use of guns for hire. Do not forget that we are a significant source of BTI's present funding.

With that said, Vallandic soldiers could certainly operate with a liaison with your own internal security office, to ensure that they are not an excessive imposition on your operations.

Operation Hook, Line, and Sinker

-Chinese Embassy, Arnarnes-

"...The Chinese government has responded to Vallandic warnings today by saying that its carrier group stationed at Dakar was merely present to protect Chinese commercial interests in Africa. The Carrier Shenlong Has been stationed at the Senegalese capital for almost a week now, and has not yet made any movements...

Agent Guo turned off the television, as he and the rest of the Guaishou Squad got ready to move out with the stolen samples. The squad was to move by Embassy car with the samples to Arnarnes International Airport and take a chartered Chinese government flight back to China. As he and the rest of the squad prepared to move out they each received a comm from Embassy Security.

"Intruder detected. Unaccounted for individual in PLA uniform spotted in the western hallways."

Agent Guo wondered how anyone had traced the attack back to the Chinese, as the squad had not had to communicate verbally during the raid on Goldfoss since the security there had been such easy prey, and they all had been fully covered from head to toe. Regardless, this threat had to be disposed of. "Security, try to detect any information coming from inside the Embassy and jam it. We don't know if we've already been bugged and have to assume this individual is armed and dangerous. The Guaishou squad needs to be able to operate at our full capacity to dispose of this individual and we can't do that if our presence here is going to be revealed to the world. Also, keep us updated on the target's position."

"Damn, how'd anyone figure out it was us? We did everything we could to cover our tracks. It's as if someone magically was able to know we were behind Goldfoss!"

"I know Duo, it's a bunch of BS. But c'mon, we gotta kill this guy. No one messes with the PRC!"

The squad fanned out and with constant updates from security managed to corner the intruder in the intersection of four hallways. They were far into the interior of the building, so no one outside would be able to see what was happening. Agent Duo was the first to make eye contact with the intruder, who appeared to be European. "How'd a scrub like you get in our Embassy? Guess it doesn't matter now, you're already dead!"

As the other agents drew their silenced pistols, Duo, behind his bulletproof vest and mask, pulled out his hook swords and moved towards the intruder, intending to finish the confrontation right there-

OOC: I feel like a lot of assumptions are being made. I thought I was in control of the squad but also had control of the govt, and never said to send any freighter off the shores of Valland. Also, I think Seon made a lot of assumptions to solve the investigation quickly. I think a professional special forces squad would do everything they could not to reveal their national identity. But if he used a bit of OOC knowledge to trace the attack back to the Chinese embassy so fast, I feel like I have to fight fire with fire.
