Kal-el's Unit Concept Sketches

aaminion00 - I wasn't making a case against using it in game. I just thought they were saying that they had to go all the way to India to get them. A comment abou history. Not about the game... :)

So the species is extinct now? No doubt helped along by conscription into human armies I'd bet...

no, more like the Roman arens :undecide:

I realize that the Egyptians never wore masks like these into battle, but heck, these are fictional units, and why not make the helmet look like Anubis? It looks cool and would protect the wearer as well as a European knight's helmet.

I think the Knight of Anubis should be mounted. Here are a couple of examples of Eyptian Cavalry.

What about the Mediterranean dwarf elephants then? :D
One theory is that skulls from these elephants where the base for the cyclops legend.

And LouLong already made an egyptian spearman, so the spearman should be at the bottom of that list everyone goes on about. ;)

It's not really directed at you, Kal-El. I just remember that on more than one occasion, in an argument over historical accuracy, a picture from DBA has been submitted as "proof" of one thing or another.

That's kinda stupid that you can't spell Ku****e:lol: Yeah, these are alternate timeline units, so of course there is some creative liscense.:)

No no! :) -- There was a breed of North African elephant which Hannibal used which became extinct in (obviously) historic times.

Actually the theory at the moment is that they became extinct through excess use of them for warfare.

Hellenistic elephants were coming from different places, the Seleucids mostly used the Indian ones they got from the Guptas in exchange for territory.

No worries, Dom. It's funny to me that once something is put on the internet it automatically attains a level of infalibility.

You mean ... like your sketches ? ;)

I'm ashamed of myself... I've posted since the sketches were posted maybe five or six times and I did not compliment them!

I think they're great as per usual, Kal-El. Btw, did you have any kind of formal training in drawing, or is this all self-taught?

Here's a secret... I can draw too. Nowhere near as good as Kal-El and maybe not even Xen, but enough that once my scanner gets working I'll post some of my flavor unit ideas.

Oh Ra, Kal-el, Dom Pedro II, do not mount the knight of anubis. This decision should be based purely on aesthetics. As with the samurai unit depicted in this game, we can easily pretend that these Egytians can fight on foot as well as on horseback; we can even give them 2 movepts. But unless Dom Pedro can come up with an equally grand mask and armour for the horse, there is a great chance that our mounted knights will look silly. But as our samurai art looks impressive on foot (and this is one unit I do not munit), so will the knights of anubis - on foot.

Besides, it's impressive enough that they can battle Egypt's enemies without sweating off thirty pounds or suffocating; they must be god's warriors.

So Ra, Kal-el, Dom Pedro II, heed me!!!
