Kavithan Protectorate first 250 (?) Turns (Let's Play!)

Other info from the interview:

"outposts" AKA city state successors can be attacked and destroyed. Diplomatic penalty depends on who trades with them and may be very low if noone does. They have no units and no teritory apart from the single tile they stand on. If they appear in a remote place and noone trades with them, they disappear and may appear somewhere else.
Each time a full trade route circuit is complete, their level and yields upgrade.

She was asked about conversion from energy to favors: It's no fixed rate, several factors influence this.

unbelievable! they got to turn 7 (half through) in the second 30 minutes!

Could someone translate Kavitha's speech on the loading screen?

The speech reads:
"It's human nature wanting to own what you see. When we arrive on this new world we must not think "This is ours and ours only". We have to respect the wonderful life that is already there. We are refugees, no conquerors. On this planet we will be new creatures and not the only creatures."

In the second video they also mention that there aren't many (if any) buildings that produce science based on population.
They also claim that attacking aliens with a city does not increase their agressiveness.

Thank you very much and welcome to civfanatics! :D

You can have units from several affinities!!! The example was this: If you have Purity 1, you can upgrade to purity-style soldiers. If you then gain 2 levels of supremacy, you'll be able to upgrade your ranged soldiers, but this time in supremacy style! She considers this an "advanced tactic for expert players". She doesn't believe it will become common practice, though.

That's a bad example (on her part) because Purity 1 doesn't unlock a themed upgrade, just the generic level 2 marine.

Overall it's an interesting feature. If units are locked into their affinity then I doubt it will ever be more than a curiosity: you don't want your soldiers stuck at level 3 when your new primary affinity would put them at level 4. But if you can swap between trees, there might be some clever things you can do by combining perks from different affinities.

That planet is soooo thick with resources its crazy! Did they select "Abundant Resources" in the options screen?

IIRC early BE teasers implied you could do precisely that...have units that reflected mixed affinity characteristics, unique to your side.

It's not that bad if you actually understand them. Still, the information density is lackluster. No relevant info in the second part as far as I've seen. But then again, it's more or less the first gameplay video in german, they have a responsbility towards gamers who aren't civ- ...ähm, well.... fanatics ;)

this might be related to the low difficulty one one side and the presence of deserts and lots of canyons/mountains on the other (at least the desert is mitigated by the presence of the river), which puts this city spot ahead especcially in the early game. I belive that fertile tracts of land have fewer special ressources lying around. It might also be possible that there would be heavy native presence north of the canyon, in which case the ressource presence might be due to it being a "wild zone", but the canyons shielding him from the lot of the wildlife. We will see in 4 hours maybe ;-)

I've seen some slow players. This is a new record
Now you know why people say that Germans are thorough.
They are thoroughly explaining the game to new Civ players.
Isn't this a good thing? There are more than enough English rush LPs available.

I would love to see more thorough, intelligent independent previews like this in English, but what I get instead is gimmicky presentations, thoughtless moves, silly banter, happy ignorance and a sense of wasted opportunity.

Surprisingly, the most interesting and (at least for me) new information wasn't mentioned yet:
There is NO alien-annoying effect from city bombardments! You may even kill aliens with cities and won't receive any increased aggression! ONLY unit-attacks add to the alien aggression level!

Right, they said that. But I'd take it with a grain of salt since it's no info from a Firaxis employee. Also, the fact is hard to verify (it could just be a reduction, no way to tell it exactly).

They have a ton of resources to the north - Kavithan Protectorate + a lot of land to grab = interesting lets play.

Also, I'm glad to see they're playing it smart with the aliens and the worker. Only bombard them when the aliens get close, park the worker in the city, and then let it out when the alien leaves.

Gonna look through the thread now to see if there's been any translations.

Edit:
That planet is soooo thick with resources its crazy! Did they select "Abundant Resources" in the options screen?

Keep in mind that they picked the Tectonic Sensor. I think that orange hill one is geothermal, which you normally wouldn't be able to see and mine at the beginning of the game.
