Kavithan Protectorate first 250 (?) Turns (Let's Play!)

Yeah, but it's only bad if you know much about the game already. They explain menus and tooltips in great detail, so there's hope that they dig out a few new infos.

I'm more concerned about their sense of "humor" ;)

Not necessarily good or bad, just helping to make sure people know what they're getting into so they can decide how to spend that 28 minutes for themselves ;)

I don't know German so I have no idea whatsoever what they are saying but I am still very impressed with their preview because I can tell that they care about understanding the game and are being very thoughtful with each decision.

So this series will probably have 200 parts. I have never seen anyone play Civ game so slow. Much better still than that one 100 turns play when the dude was just doing random stuff without knowing what he was doing.

And what is the deal with the resources? They are everywhere.

The 3000 Science from Nests is still in ... What did they say about it?

Nothing, sadly. Might have to hope that they actually destroy a nest to see if it's just an error in the tooltip.

They are actually mocking people for criticising their speed. They said something like it's called letsplay, not letsclick ;)

They also said they have been asked to not show too much from the pedia to avoid "spoilers" (as knowing to much about a game takes away a lot of the initial fun, which might be true).
And they said that the info about cities being "allowed" to defend themselves against aliens (without making them aggressive) comes from Lena Brenk personally (lead producer).

EDIT: healing is 10points/turn on neutral tiles, 20 on friendly and 30 in cities.

PAC landed early again - is that intended or random?

EDIT_2: video ended on turn 19 with the landing of Hutama, Kozlov came a bit earlier.

I suppose the free retaliation from cities makes some sense. The aliens might think, "whoops, Wolfbeetles drifted too close to the human nest, our bad". :p

Yet I recall Firaxis Pete doing an early preview game demonstrating the consequences of aggressive behavior against aliens and part of what he did to aggravate them was to liberally fire on sea aliens approaching his coastal city. It certainly seemed to add to the hostility level.

OTOH city defensive fires may have been balanced out of the human aggression equations in more recent BE beta builds.

Yeah, it's still subject to change.

I don't know what kind of impact Pete's aggressive city defense had on the aliens in that preview, specifically, but only kills seem to increase alien aggression. So even without this free retaliation, it could be a viable tactic to rough up the aliens some but leave them alive so they can instinctively retreat on their own.

I would counter that it's called let's-play, not let's-talk. Though perhaps I would appreciate their endless banter more if I could understand it.

It's nice that someone is playing a more thoughtful and deliberate game than the rushed playthroughs we've seen recently, but as Acken said, there has got to be some middle ground somewhere.

If that is the case, it shows some real finesse on the part of the design team, telling me that they are really trying to think the game through carefully and logically, even taking nature into account. The two co-leads who work together have especially impressed me in the preview vids and interviews.

It's hard to say if that actually did anything though. Keep in mind he wiped out 2 nests in a short number of turns, and was killing aliens on sight with his troops; I have a feeling the nests were the big "diplo hit" with the aliens, not his city telling the odd sea dragon to shoo.

"Nein Herr Arioch, zer vill be order in mein let's-play!"

It would make sense that protecting your own human "nests" should alarm the aliens less than going after theirs. It will be interesting to see if we ever learn the formulas behind the aggression curve, or whatever it is that drives aliens to attack, and when. I'm no coder, so can't say for sure, but aren't those sort of things typically moddable text files?

I'm not so sure about waiting until they get Colonist Initiative to get your second city (I assume that's what they were saying as they scrolled over it). Assuming that they get Scavenging first in Might, that's three virtues till you get your second city, which may be too long with Polyasia to the south (I'm not too worried with a Nest between them and PAC). I would suggest getting out that Trade Depot, then a Colonist and then work towards Colonist Initiative for the third city.

At least those are my thoughts at the moment.
