This was interesting to see, because in Pete's "official" vids it looked like 1, maybe 2 soldiers would be enough to start kicking some bug butts. In this game version it looks like a very tiresome, dangerous business without 3-4 soldiers.
Yep, I can't stand the commentary too. They may be nice guys, but their personalities and jokes are so... Just not my type. At least they are mature and intelligent, that's the only thing stopping me from hitting the mute button.
I think how they do their video is very good and firaxis themselves wanted them not to rush things too much to spoil our own experience.

And I suspect that if you try to eliminate a worm or nest with mere soldiers, you may do it but you will lose most or all of them in the process. Soldiers are basic defense, Marines and Rangers are your first real offensive units - or so it seems to me.

They didn't exactly say how long it takes, but it seems that growing an outpost into a full city takes around 10 turns (2 turns per surrounding tile that is annexed, first one free). This is quite long considering they play as Kavitha. At least the outpost doesn't seem to consume health before finished.
Kavitha seems pretty strong if it really takes 20 turns for everyone else to grow a city...
