Jon Shafer reveals reason he left Firaxis: to work as lead designer on the new CFC forum rules.

Some highlights:

* Moderators to be replaced by Giant Death Robot Moderators after fusion is discovered. Until then, they receive an upgrade to their AI so we don't know whether moderators are cautious, annoyed or friendly with us.

* 1 infraction per turn. 2nd infraction in a given forum results in a temp ban. You can have multiple infractions as long as you have no more than 1 per forum. This gets around the old "stacks of infraction doom" problem.

* Infractions for all users pooled into a "global infraction system". The entire forum is banned if this gets too high. Days without any infractions result in a golden age for the forum where spam posts are allowed.

* Links now require you to pay maintenance on them. Having too many posts also requires a maintenance payment.

* You need to upgrade your PC to browse the forum.

Merry Christmas everyone ;)

dang, that means I can't post until I get that new laptop next month

Is this how communism transitions into utopia?

I, for one, accept our new Giant Death Robot overlords.

:borg: :assimilate:

I can't tell if this is real or not! It seems like something the mods would make! :p

Oh, and, inb4theThoughtPolice/Mods

I was hoping this would be an uprising of sorts to throw the yoke of the mods of our backs.

BRILLIANT THREAD

More highlights from the wikileaked CFC patch notes:

* Upon reaching a certain number of posts, threads containing constructive discussion will automatically infract all participants so as to limit growth.

* The global infraction system issues infractions to all CFC members when new users register for the forums, to simulate unrest caused from acquiring new citizens. A sufficient volume of new registrations results in banning of prolific OT posters.

* Only one CFC member may read one thread at a time. Multiple members browsing the same thread will result in forum crash.

* As the most moddable CFC ever, a new forum skin browser is implemented with this patch. Modders will be allowed to create new skins in three to five years, when the CFC SDK is released.

* To reduce piracy and enhance forum security, CFC now requires Steam.

* To post on CFC with your friends, you must all purchase a copy of CFC and connect via Steam. The Giant Death Mods hope to enable a post-by-email mode in 2015.

:);):D

Very funny!

Of course, were Shafer in charge, this forum might not be such an addictive place to visit. :p

That means this ain't gettin closed. :D

It only means it's getting marginalized.

Ahhh. April Fools in December. How unexpected.
You know, people here do a lot of pranks on the 28 of December every year instead of April Fools'. So… not entirely off-the-mark.

 Great thread!

On the plus side, maybe this means the automated bots that occasionally spam the system won't be smart enough to anymore? At least until they're patched?
