Like a Sir!

ok,
if you go for golden age, you can switch to caste at the end of it to start great artist generation :)

Your short term target is to take justy island.
optic may be important to destroy justy fleet.

take care ^^

So I actually played on Friday but haven't had a chance until now to load a report. Here is what happened...

T0: Whip the market in Paris and queue Nat Epic. GA is sent to Orleans to settle and GS launches a Golden Age. Lighthouse is whipped in Phoenician and a Trireme is queued.

T1:

T2: GG is sent to St Pete to settle. Rheims gets a GS. I set research to 0% and bulb Education. A motion is passed:

capture1yax.jpg

Education comes in and I set Compass for the next tech. I make a trade:

capture2at.jpg

T3: Trebixond is captured.

capture3dp.jpg

T4: Compas is in, Optics next. Orleans and St Pete both complete a catapult>Budd temple. Lyons finishes a forge> Confu Temple. Moscow gets a GS and Asoka circumnavigates the globe.

T5: UoS fails> Budd missionary. I also whip the forge in Poenician.

T6: Optics in, Lib up next. Moscow finishes missionary> Monastery. Lyons temple> Maceman. Phoenician forge> Galley.

T7: Orleans Temple> Uni. Tours Maoi> Library.

T8: Moscow Monastery> Temple. St Pete Temple> Uni. Buddhism spreads in Lyons.

T9: Novgorod Temple> Uni. I also make the following civic swaps:

capture4ezi.jpg

And a trade:

capture5m.jpg

T10: Liberalism race is won, take Astro. Nationalism is up next. Paris completes Forge> Uni. Moscow Temple> Salon. A GA is born in Paris.

That's about it. I think we need to start thinking about when we are going to turn up the culture slider. Also what our strategy forward is going to be...

great set as it seems :)
We are now at war with 3 AI...

We should attack asoka asap. Bombay and dely are just to good to be ignored.
Just look at justy navy and cry ( iconium)
we can't invade just land now. maybe latter.
But bombay and deli can be howsome to be taken.

Can we propose peace with asoka latter?
Neither we declared on him nor he did. Maybe we can get a peace (but after we get a city)

Next tech should be gunpowder for our special unit.

no way we continue building galley while we could build gallion!

Do pigswill, Verarde or Imhotep want to play or do i take the turn?
any lurker who is watching can participate if they want.

so according to our variant, we need to eliminate Justinian. We can, however, vassal Isa and Asoka when we are able. I am concerned about when we are going to turn up the culture slider. I'm thinking after miltrad+gunpowder is in, for cuirs, we should turn off research and go as full culture as possible. We can get the cuirs out and stomp whoever still stands in our way...

played some turns (too many?) until i succeed to take bombay (great lighthouse inside :)) with limited losses (3-4 cats)

no mutch things else, i build salon and universities everywhere and 2 gallons, teched nationalism and started printpress.

I think our army is not enought to take asoka capital and we can go back to take care of justy :)

there is available trade tech and we we need to have a bigger army. I started to build barrack for that purpose.

lurker's comment:

Agreed - build more units (I'm thinking siege for India as a priority). You can live without the Harbors.

Trade in Bananas for Dye, plus trade out your spare Sugar for :gold:.

Review specialists.

Build Hermitage! (I assume Orleans is the target).

lurker's comment:

Hi! :) Further to #167 ...

You must change your civics; you strive for a Liberalism slingshot to Nationalism for Free Speech and Hermitage. Taj Mahal is a bonus. Adopt Free Speech, some argument for Slavery (whip Temples and Missionaries), and Organised Religion and/or Pacifism. I appreciate that you're at war, but Theocracy is not what you want in a Culture VC game (Zara's fav' civic too ... I know).

You have to settle on the three cities that are to go Legendary now. I am assuming that's; Paris, Moscow, and Orleans. There's a case for several other cities to be 'the third' (Phoenician, Bombay, Lyons) but I think that with Sistine and that merged Great Artist, Orleans is your spot. Determine this asap.

You must start spreading your religions, and that means that Tours is your new Islamic Missionary pump, and Bombay (when it's out of resistance) is your new Taoism and Hinduism pump assuming that you flip to Organised Religion ... if not build Monasteries.

Evaluate the need for Oxford University. Commit to it, which means any of Lyons, Phoenician, Rheims, or Tours should be working on a Uni' ... or forget Oxford given you're likely to be close to your tech' aspirations anyway.

What are your tech' aspirations? Personally I like Steel (Cannons ... invading stack decimation) + Rifling (Rifles/Redcoats can hold their own against collateral damaged invasion stacks pre. Tanks, and Cav's/Cossacks can knock out invasion Cannons in sufficient numbers) before putting an end to scientific pursuits, but you might think otherwise.

Are you going to pursue the Great Merchant from Economics? If not, I'd trade Education and Astronomy to Zara for everything he has. If so, then use your Great Merchant + Great Scientist Golden Age (Maus' of Maus'!) to pop as many Great Artists as possible ... these are the only Great People you want.

Strengthen Paris by nerfing the tile allocation of Tours.

Paris, Moscow, and Orleans are 'special cases' ... infect them with new religions and build up their cultural output. You'll be wanting as many 'cathedrals' in these cities as you can get as soon as you can. Moscow's probably going to have to double as your Great Artist pump when it's not getting up its cultural buildings.

Capturing Delhi will pose an interesting dilemma for you ... Representation or Universal Suffrage? I'd not wait to capture The Pyramids before civic switches however ... do so immediately.

Count food - Novgorod is very food-poor and can't keep sustaining Workshops.

Clear the jungle south of Lyons. I assume that a road to your war-front would be helpful as well. That Maceman trudging through jungle would indicate that a road's probably needed.

LOL @ vran! Yes, I know I was supposed to comment yesterday but my whole day just got away from me. Since the rest of the roster has disappeared, you guys are more than welcome to join if you like...

come on cam! it is a relax SG with tons and tons of misplay :mischief:
We will win anyway :)

btw you are welcom to take a set and improve the whole thing :)

Plan of sorts:

I think our three cities should be Paris, Moscow and Orleans.
I think we should swap to Free speech and Free religion.
Slavery is still a bit of a toss up for me.
I think we only really need to tech to MilTrad for now and juice up the Culture slider
Maybe burn our GA and GS on another GAge
Yes on "screw Tours"
Religion and all related buildings to be spread/built asap

lurker's comment:

I should probably
tapedshut.gif
and let you do your thing ... but ...

Buddhism's being quite kind to you ... I'd be inclined to stick with it, but I'm so-so on Theocracy.

Great Artist culture bombs are what you're after. I'd be wary on using yours on a Golden Age.

So use the GS to bulb PP and Ga to bomb Orleans...

I think you are actually right on the religion thing... Was going to suggest a switch to OR but then no spreading... So Theo is shall stay...

in how many turn a GA is more interesting in settling rather than bombing? (bonsuses included)
In how long are we expecteing to win this game?

lurker's comment:

I hate to say it, but it's really a case-by-case basis as to whether to merge your Great Artist into a city or not. Really it comes down to a bit of arithmetic and planning.

Your Great Artist will yield 14:culture: per turn (and 3:gold: iirc, and 3:science: under Representation ... which we'll ignore). In a city with Hermitage and running Free Speech, that's 42:culture: per turn (payback versus 'culture bomb' is 95 turns). In a city with 'say' Hermitage and two 'cathedrals' plus Free Speech, that's 56:culture: per turn (payback versus 'culture bomb' is 72 turns), etc.

The problem here is that right now in this game there's no culture multipliers in your cities. By the time Hermitage and the 'cathedrals' are up, you've probably progressed the game 30 or 40 turns at best. As such, I'd consider hanging on to the Great Artist for second-last-turn culture bombing ('Create a Great Work') in the city that's lagging to get to Legendary - with that said, I could be wrong, and you might get a better return by merging him into your 'to be' Hermitage city. :dunno:
