LINES-World of Magic

Spam post to say I changed my thing. It's now Geomancy.

Isrealite: In british legend, Gog and Magog where giants. And since my civ is basically a rip-off of Arthuran legends, they are giants.

Vampires are basically good at everything, so i'm not sure if i should have the cost doubled for them :/

anyway, they suffer from weakness's to light. (Usually combatted by summoning a horder of bats to block out the Sun BUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, this for some reason has detrimental effects to the enemies moral :hmm: )

Yes. I was going to add cities in the first update. But I think I'll keep the borders as they are for now. If the map gets hard to see then I'll thicken them.

OOC: Does education also increase skill at magic?

I put my orders on the thread, as I'm unlikely to be contacting anyone else for a while. Is that okay, or do you want all orders PM'ed?

Education doesn't increase magical skill. I might add magician training stats later.

Wow, lots of joinees.

So what do you people think of Primary and Secondaty Magic idea?More importantly what do you think Lord_Iggy.

Long ago, before all else in the memory of the people, even the Elders, there was the storm. So it was fitting that it would begin anew with a storm.

Generations ago, a galley from a greater civilization had been blown far off course by a great storm, a storm that had completely destroyed the ship in which they came. There was a vague notion expressed in the Mysteries of the Elders that the first Hawaiians had once been soldiers, but the common people thought that they had always been at peace. And indeed, it was so long that it might well have been forever.

But it wasn't. As recorded in the Mysteries of the Elders, which could only be read after one had been initiated as an Elder of the Hawaiian people, the original settlers had soon sank into savagery. For decades, generations, centuries, they and their descendants fought, gradually losing all of the vestiges of civilization except writing. But finally, the fighting had stopped, and with the foundation of the Elders, a group most of the common people thought had also lasted forever, peace had come to the island. But the people had lost the art of shipbuilding, and most (except the elders) belived that the islands they could sometimes see on the horizon were mere mirages, and that Hawaii was the world, and the universe consisted of Hawaii, the sea, and the sky.

There were vague tales recorded in the scrolls that contained the Mysteries of some kind of dust that brought miraculous powers to those who came in contact with it. But this was generally dismissed by the Elders as nonsense. Besides, even if there was such a thing, the winds always blew away from the Island, and nothing could get through.

But the second storm changed this all. A storm such as had only been heard of in legend, with great, swirling clouds and incredible winds, ravaged the island. And when it ceased suddenly and it seemed that the island was surrounded by rings of wind and clouds, they were there. Swimming up out of the sea came great swimming serpents, with men riding upon them. Some of the men handled the serpents with ease, but some did not. And these latter ones, looking at the clouds with dismay, began to chant. And, although this was clearly not what these men were skilled at, the storm gradually dissolved, with the clouds dissolving as the water contained in them poured into the sea.

And then these strangers, with another incantation, started to speak the language of Hawaii, and they were eventually understood by the Elders, though their accents were harsh and the things they spoke of alien.

They were the last survivors of a great Empire, one in which all sorts of magic, Necromancy and Pyromancy and Weather Magic, and others, were practiced, one that had fallen to a massive demonic invasion. For days, the Serpent Riders and Tamers of the Sea (for so they were called), fled from the vicious persuit of the enemy, with their strength waning as they struggled to counteract the enemy's spells.

But their enemy was not of the sea, and in this, the Tamers saw their only hope. The great storm had come up, and instead of seeking to stop it, the Tamers urged the Serpent Riders (who could do no magic themselves, save for riding under the waves), into the storm. And they escaped their enemy. But the storm overpowered them, left them unconscious. Were it not for the superb training and instincts of the sea serpents they rode, they would have perished.

And these strange people, these Serpent Riders and Tamers of the Sea, had a plea. Let us join you, they said, and we will expand your people to the ends of the earth, and we will train some of your people to work miracles. And the Elders, after much thought, agreed.

And it soon became clear that the tales of this Dust were true, for in the very air the Tamers breathed, the dust was present, and it spread. And soon some of the Hawaiians themselves began to show signs of Aquamancy, and they were taken and trained.

And a wonderous thing happened: the Elders were blessed, and became immortal, and could guide the Hawaiian people forever.

And the elders decided to send out a great expedition, so that Hawaiians, guided by the Tamers, could set foot on other lands for the first time in Millennia.

And it was done.

And I'm fine with orders on the thread.

@Cleric- Sorry, but your nation can only have one type of magic. Different types of magic repel each other, so having more than one type of magic would require splitting your empire in half.

@Magenta- Could you name the OTL place your capital is in?

i call red!!!!1 me me me ME HORAY FOR ME AHHHHH ITS ALMOST FRIDAY!!!!!!!

Here is an edited description of my nation ( I also edited my first post):

Name: Abyssinia
Capital: Aksum
Ruler: King Menelik/ Israelite9191
Government: Monarchy
Population: 2000
Economy: Stable (3/3/4
Education: Average
Technology: Bronze age
Loyalty:
Army: 100 infantry
Navy: 10 galleys
Magic: 10 priests, aviantry
UU: Rocks
Projects:
Description: Living in the highlands of Ethiopia, the Abyssinian kingdom of Aksum thrives. Untouched by the troubles of the Atlanto-Ur wars, They have expanded to control lands around Lake Tana, on the Blue Nile, and along the Red Sea. Living in the Ethiopian higlhlands, the Abyssinians have always lived in peace with the birds and the winds. Over time, they came to master the two and now practice a kind of magic known as aviantry. Communicating with the birds, the priests of Abyssinia now manipulate the winds like a potter manipulates clay, and summon huge flocks of hawks, eagles, ravens, crows and all birds to do battle and spy. They have also earned the trust, alliance, and friendship of the one bird who trusts none, the rock. Though they may not be as powerful as Ur and the Atlantian states, they are certain to stir things up in the near future.
********
Aviantry: A magical system based on communication with the birds and all of the secrets of nature they have bestowed upon the Abyssinians. Aviantry grants the use of birds for battle, espionage, message carrying, and everything else. The most important knowledge that the birds have bestowed is the nature of the wind. With this knowledge in hand, Abyssinia shall rule the skys carried on the backs of birds and by the winds themselves.

Rocks: Giant birds, there favorite snacks are baby elephants, usually stealing them one to a talon from the herds. They are smarter than all birds except for the Athenian Owl (a rare species of magic possessing owl that lives in Greece) and are the equals of humans. They act in the manner of other soldiers, aka in troops with generals. They can carry soldiers on their backs and crash down on unsespecting enemies with the force of a tidal wave. They live only in the highlands of Abyssinia but could surely thrive anywhere were there are mountains.

EDIT: Also, I claim olive green asmy color

History of Gorin Part 1

The first rule the Gorin people ever had was Damirta. At first it was a good, but then the Damirta began to use magic. At first it was small things. The Damirta healed the wounded and became widely known and praised, they even began to raise the dead. Yet some were doubtful of them and suspicious because many people had begun to disappear.

It turned out that the Damirta had slowly been building an army of dead and soon began to slaughter the people of Gorin. Apparently they had been following an ancient demon, called Mumra. They killed thousands of the Gorin people until one man, the great grand-father of Merzan, was finally able to use magic. He first discovered this through rage. As he was fighting one of the Damirta’s undead minions flames suddenly shot forth from his body and destroyed the creature. At first he didn’t know what happened but soon he realized that through anger he could summon flames to himself and use them. That is when he began to teach other people of this magic. Some were stronger that others but almost all of them could use flames. Morth (Merzan’s great grand-uncle) lead the rebellion against the Damirta. The war between the Gorin rebels and the Damirta nobels lasted for 4 years before the Damirta were finally defeated. It was an unconditional surrender, which, to the Gorin, was death to all Damirta and Damirta supporters.

After the war much of Gorin was angry at Morth for killing every last Damirta and outlawing Necromancy but after Merzan took power by killing his father, he removed the ban, yet it still is severely restricted and no one really practices this devils art.

Well, I'm going to redo my civ, since I don't really like just sitting up in Britain. And, I'll be more descriptive.

Name: Songhai
Capital: Timboktu
Leader: Sundiata Kiata, the Tiger King.
Government: Fascist Monarchy
Pop: 2000
Economy: Stabe; (3/3/4
Education: Average
Technology: Bronze Age
Army: 100 infantry
Navy: 10 galleys
Magic: 10 Magicians
UU: Great Lions
Projects:
Description: The twelve chosen tribes had lived for decades upon the west coast of Africa for centuries, with no change in their ceremonial routines of life and war. This changed when traders from Ur arrived, looking for furs, precious metal, and conscripts to fight the Atlanteans with. They took every male member of the largest tribe, the Mecku, and took them off to war. They never came back. The women and children where split between the rest of the tribes. Unfortunetly, the virtual destruction of the Mecku led to a power vacuum, where the remaining tribes fought tooth and nail to become the dominant force in the area. Finally, a young prince name Sundiata Kiata, who was supposedly blessed by the gods, used new magical techniques from Ur to unite 10 of the tribes into his kingdom of Songhai, named after his tribe. The remaining tribe, the Ghana, refused to submit, and where banished to South Africa. Now, with the tribes united, Sundiata set his sights on his peoples ancient enemies.. Ur.

UU: Great Lions.
Mighty beasts that once inhabitated the Lake of the Nile, these Lions of prodigous size where brought to Songhai by Sundiata, to terrify several reluctant tribes into joining his union. The lions are usually ridden, and are extremely reliable war machines.

My starts in West Africa, by the way. And my color is red.
