We accept your offer.

To Eldrania
From Davaria

Your messengers have been killed, but not eaten. Why would we eat demons? Instead, their blood has been used to purify enemy copper weapons so that they can be used by us.

You are a stange bunch of people.

(OOC) Didn't quite expect that response......

Would they be able to hold the Mogul lands if everyone attacked?

A procession passes solemnly out of Khadon. The Evening Heat beating down, like smithies to a Forge.

Two Young Priests to the fore, bear incense and tears flow down their faces.

Royal Guards, Faces stern, unwavering; March Onwards, One last duty to the Emperor they Loved.

High priests Surround the Emperors body, held aloft by the slaves of the unworthy. The High priests sing the rites of Death.

This procession winds itself to the Royal Tower of Silence. Ready for the Cleansing. Whereupon the Bones of the Emperor will be placed in the ossuary at the center of the Tower. To Rest, with his glorious Ancestors.

The Same Smith Are still beating down, when the New Emperor is Crowned.

Young, he is barely over 19. Fervour and zeal burn within him. He has before him a task, nay a Duty.

The Royal Guards Clash their Spear and Sheild Together.
"Hail, Hail King Rhama Khemr, Emperor of All Khemri, Lord of the Sun Throne Defender of the True Path,"

Emperor Rhama looked up and over into the Distance to greet the New Dawn.

A number of things were constant irritants for the Mother of Yath al'Shanaal. One of them was the neocrystalists. Having corrupted the original and true faith in The Red Lady, they were worse than heretics. At first, they were far too many to be dealt with directly. Therefore, the Church had gradually shifted so as to accomodate an easier conversion for the neocrystalists back to the true faith.

One of these changes had been to make ceremonial temples and burial complexes beneath them. Here, the faithful were allowed to meditate on their mortality among stacks of dried skulls and bones. Above in the temple hall, burial ceremonies were held, as well as marriages, betrothals, and sometimes births. One was usually tied to a temple from childhood (or marriage for the groom, who moved into the bride's family) and was buried in the crypts below two nights after passing away.

Another such change was a new view of the Netherworld, described by the new scholars in the monastic temples who concentrated on learning and literature. This new perspective presented the Netherworld as a realm of spirit clusters of various sizes. The clusters were formed by the dead souls who worshiped the same god. Hence, all deities worshipped on the mortal realm were represented in the Netherworld, and were genuine entities able to interact with mankind spiritually.

This new and liberal view on religion allowed for easier conversion from other religions as well, but were very appealing to the neocrystalists, the reason being the very harsh and dispassionate nature of their perverted religion. With this new change also came the gradual repealing of the former belief that only those who venered The Red Lady would be granted a safe pasage to the Netherworld. This could seem like a thing that would disintegrate the Church and fragment it, but on the contrary, it strengthened it.

The truth was, the many Crystalists beyond the borders of Yath al'Shanaal had strained the Church's dogma as it was starting to conflict with increasingly different cultures and peoples. With this reform, the Church was able to include the various branches wholeheartedly, as long as they agreed on a minimal common denominator that was the basis of Crystalism. The general rules, without going into details, are as follows:

1: The Red Lady is worthy of awe and honor. She is the spiritual guide and guardian of all Crystalists.

2: The Red Lady resides in the Netherworld, a realm of the dead spirits and all gods.

3: The priests can contact the Netherworld through rituals to guide the faithful and provide wisdom.

A fourth rule which (obviously) is only followed in Yath al'Shanaal is that the Church rules the lands of the faithful.

With these steps, nearly all of the neocrystalists were successfully reconverted to the true Crystalism again. This also caused a lot of the faithful in Qua'laen Jal to be restless and a bit discontent. After all, they were a part of a religion that had a "shadow rule" which created a sort of barrier between the Yath Crystalists and the rest. The most respected and high ranking priests were all Yath, and had graduated from the numerous monastic temples built in the homeland. Thus, the people saw that their rulers were a hinderance against joining with their spiritual brothers and having a say in the Church Councils in Ruby.

This conflict between faith and duty has been going on for quite some while, but now the time has come for it to be solved...

The Second Epoch: Closing

"Demons will be vanquished, but none reside among the faithful."

-Autorex Strategius, 800 P.D.

Part One:

In the twenty-third year of the First Autoregium, Strategius repealed the slavery law. In the past, conquered peoples such as the Zibonians and Kalmarians had been treated harshly. Those that converted to the Church of the One were spared in life and property, but many refused. These were sold into slavery. In addition, it was considered the right of a Veritasan soldier to take up to as many as five slaves after a battle. And of course, the child of a slave was a slave.

This created a problem, and Strategius saw it. A large portion of the population was forced into unpaid labor, and only based on their racial heritage. This fostered hatred, and hatred fostered disunity, the seed of Chaos. The slave problem had to be solved, but in a way that would keep the economy from collapsing.

The cities were already crowded, his advisors said. It would be a disaster to throw thousands of slaves out into the world. It would cause Chaos, and make the food shortage worse. But Strategius knew the dangers of a slave revolt, having put down many in Kalmar, before the Fall of the Republic.

So over the protests of his top advisors, he freed the slaves. Of course, they couldn't just go wherever they wanted. Every slave was offered a choice by the Autoregium:

-They could become a soldier, and be rewarded with a small patch of land after a decade's service. Rumors of a new weapon designed in the forges of Lux were spreading...

-They could join the colony ships, that even now were sailing up the coast. Rumors of fertile lands to the north of Kalmeria (the new Veritasan name for the increasingly assimilated province) were spreading, and Mariners carried new parties to the wilderness every day.

-Or, they would join the Church. Many slaves opted to become Disciples of the One, spreading the Three Maxims and the basic tenets of the faith throughout Veritas, and beyond. Hundreds would be needed for the missions to Davaria, Mogul, and Tristaria, and the white-robed Priests needed laborers and assistants. Temples had to be built and restored, incense bought and prepared, candles trimmed, and converts instructed.

It certainly was a risky move, but Strategius guessed that the slaves would be grateful, and would, in effect, become even more patriotic than Veritasans themselves. That was what set Veritas apart from the other lands. People would live in peace and freedom, regardless of race.

Of course, the Church had to be upheld, and the Assemblum lay empty. Strategius would soon have to tackle the famine.
