LK140 - Trying emperor

Stealing workers without being (too much) ready for war is something I would not dare, but I am impressed that Abe was ready for peace that quickly (I guess he was even less prepared :) ).
I second LK that it might have been better to save and ask the team opinions before committing to it (but it is done now)

I would still go for a "peacefull" settling of the 3 cities, while building military to
1. get the barbarian city (it is not exactly on the 'perfect spot' but might be good enough)
2. possible go after Abe for Washington

Jabah

@LK : this is not exactly an early rush, we did gain 2 workers and criple Abe a bit, but we didn't gain an second capital which IMHO is what most people consider an early rush...

New Updates
We took a big diplomatic hit for those two workers. We suffering declared war on a friend with 3 civs. :(

I don't like that fact that we have ZERO gold. I've been screwed with random events needing cash. I've learned some are brutal. Can we please get positive research going to give us a cash reserve?

With the barb city visible getting real military becomes important.

I didn't realise I was up...

So I have it, and should be able to play tonight.

Any comment on my 'slightly' modified dotmap and settling order.
(I would go with the 'sealing' city on the river first and then Ivory-plenty city, capital building settlers, horse city building charriot after barrack)

Jabah

The worker steal was a cheap-shot, but what's done is done.

The 'sealing' city doesn't really seal anything important, so I'd rather grab the Ivory site next (if available). The barb city wastes the fish, so it needs to be razed and replaced.

Fishing should have been learned by now. If not then that's the next tech.

@SP :you are right, all the 'backyard' cities had been settled (kind of) by barb or us, so nothing to protect. On the other hand, Ivory will need a lot of workers turns to be actively .

Why do you want fishing that badly, we have only 1 fish but also 3 FP in Eridu, so a WB doesn't seems to be a top priority (considering we want troops from here first). We will need it for Ivory city, but it might be faster to have the last city (W of Uruk) building it (no production in ivory.

Food is the key to success in CIV: with the fish we can work the horses and grow at a faster pace than by working only FPs. Also, exploring WBs are very handy little units on this type of map.

T0 - 2250BC
Change Uruk to settler to be whipped into finishing the granary.
Get 1 t at 0% research then go back to IW at (almost max) to have a bit of cash

T3 - 2175BC
IW -> Hunting
We will need to camp the ivory soon and we will need archer for cheap defence soon as well.
We have several Iron, near by, including 1 in side our border (3rd ring of Uruk)

(maps at the end)

Several injured barbarians (1 archer, 2 warriors) spotted and in attacking position (with us in defending spots).

IBT Lose the southern warrior (past barbarian city) to archer (at 35%)

T6 - 2100BC
Hunting -> Archery
Whip settler in Uruk

T7 - 2075BC
Settler -> resume granary (with overwhip+chop, done next turn)

T8 - 2050BC
Uruk granary -> charriot (for 3t to grow back to 4)

T10 - 2000BC
Kish (ivory city) founded and is already unhealthy !!.

T12 - 1950BC
Whip barrack in Uruk for 2pop

T13 - 1925BC
Archery -> Fishing
(for ivory city and Eridu)
Uruk barracks -> charriot (to be done next turn)

T14
Uruk charriot -> archer (for 2t, until size 4 then settler)
Eridu barracks -> charriot

T15 - 1875BC
Clearing one jungle on ivory turned Kish into healthy again. Worker should camp and road.
1 worker mining the Iron
2 workers mining gold and hills near Eridu.

Research seems pathetic (50%), but it is because we are working growing tiles (ie 0 gold).
Next turn Uruk grow to 4 and I recommend Building SETTLERS while working (pig+farm FP+2xgold)
Next turn Eridu grow to 4 also, but Gold mine ready only in 3t, then grass mine ready in 6t. (should probably go charriot-> archer ->wboat->vulture->vulture...)

So in 3t we should be working 3 gold mine.

I put some tags on the map regarding futur cities.
I would consider building another 3 cities quickly (river commerce, East production, and Iron+Fish N of Uruk), but we have some options about exactly where.
Barbarian city should be raze and rebuild 1W if possible.

1875 BC
Are you sure this is emperor? I looked at the stats and we are number 2 for soldiers. I am usually dead last at this point in the game.

1775 BC
(IT) At this point writing for a library or two looks good. We have no shot IMHO at any of the early wonders.

1750 BC
(IT) America suffers a random event slowing their research. I don't I've seen that one before, and have no idea how bad the damage is.

1725 BC
(IT) I accept Hammurabi open borders offer. Brennus appears to be the odd man out.

1625 BC
(IT) We get stuck with a -1 hit with Asoka from a random event.

1550 BC
(IT) The tech choice isn't clear and I marginally pick sailing. I would like to get some foreign trade routes.

New Updates
Where are missing religions? I notice only a single religion has been adopted. I don't see Brennus hogging all three of the early religions. We must still be missing contact with an AI.

I left one worker not moved, as the debate on the next city site will influence where he goes. My choice is the inland iron city that picks up the cattle. IMHO the fishing village iron is to squeeze in.

It seems while we are cramped here with 5 AI's the last one got a island for him self. Let's hope it's not Mansa. :D

I think if/(as soon as) the economy allows we should send some troops to take that barb city, before Asoka does. Beeing second in soldiers we should be able to deal with a couple of barbs :D

Perhaps even settle one more city towards Asoka - Marble/Deer/Horses/Wines. But i think he will beat us to it...

Lurking

I'm kind of surprised that you haven't beelined priesthood for ziggurats.

I don't really like the iron+cattle city (even if i put this mark), I would prefer to have the western cattle city (without rice, but with more western tiles) plus the fish-iron city.
Iron-cattle is having too many tiles shared with both ivory and Uruk imho that will be also the case for iron-fish, but we have no other option for this fish, so better get the iron with it.

@pigswill : I did weakly try to suggest priesthood for Oracle (and UB), but with so many AIs around, we decided it was safer to quickly settle and research military and worker techs.

Any other opinions on the city/cities around the Iron?

Jabah - Kish = fish/rice, New1 = Fish/Iron, New2 = Cows/FP

Swiss - Kish = fish, New1 = cows/FP/rice/Iron, New2 = n/a

I'll play tomorrow.

In fact I would go New2 before New1 ... to prevent Abe to steal the cattle.
(and might even delay New1 since we don't need it to work Iron)
Note that New1 can share pig with Uruk so could grow pretty fast.

IMHO the fish / iron city on the sea coast is low priority. After Kish gets a border expansion I don't see the AI taking the spot. In addition, this one is just a fishing village with some production from iron.

I want to grab the cattle next. I still like my original yellow dot from post 44 - SE of the cow.

When do we want to grab priesthood for our early access to courts?

Early access to court is nice, but now the pb is more to "build" the court.
imho we don't have city with production and high maintenance.
Cities with production (Uruk, Eridu) have low maintenance and better things to do (settler, military).
City with maintenance (Kish probably) has no production until all ivory tiles are camped or hill mind (with fish captured and/or rice farmed to feed all) and have wb to build before.

Regarding Cattle city.
SE or S of cows is a trade of (2grass, including a river, + possible rice to share) vs (2 plain + plain hill)
Since Kish is not exactly starving with lots of grass + fish, it doesn't need the rice in the long term. On the other hand Cattle city has no real production if SE (but we have other cities for that).
I agree with SE of Cows, and possibly cottage every single (jungle) grassland for cattle city and Kish.

Jabah

The Ziggurat is also a bit cheaper than the normal court... (90 :hammers: @ normal i think)... And with the 4th and 5th city planed, it should become worth it soon... so perhaps Sailing (Foreign Trade if we are lucky, Lighthoses) then Priesthood next might be a good idea.

Wow, is this a feature of Lincoln's personality that he will talk to you after only 2 turns at war?

My guess would be that it is related to the the Power chart seen earlier in the report. The AIs are slaves to the power chart (there are a few notable AI personality exceptions) and are more amenable to peace when you out power them. In fact I am pretty sure that you could keep an AI indefinitely on "We have enough on our hands" by outbuilding it in troops the moment you notice the Diplo change.

There is no excuse for the AI to be out powered by 4 warriors though

Settled 1SE of the cows. We have a couple of Libraries and another couple of granaries. There are two swords to raze the barb city and a settler/chariot pair that should not refound, but instead shoot past to try to found at deer/horse/wine/marble as it might still be available.

We had an event that gave us +2g on the Iron tile, so we should definitely found fish/Iron.

Busy turns on the Diplo: borders opened, Fish gifted to Abe (free will) and Gold to Sitting Bull (demand). Tech-wise, went Sailing, Mysticism, Poly then started Priesthood.
