LK140 - Trying emperor

@Refar : No pb with the city, it is not that bad since we share an extra FP cottage with Uruk (I was the one who put the 2 marks initially - I was pushing for the S one, but the very first dotmap were with the N one, so I let them both to be decided). By losing a forest, I mean we lost the one that was on the city tile, we still will be able to work the other one when we have enough culture. I would let the bare plain without improvment hoping for forest spreading.

@LK : What do you think of Stone-fish (+2 toundra forests), I know it is not a great place (especially since it is stealing fish from Ur for growth, but could possibly give it back after a while), but imho the stategic ressource make it worth it. If you found this city, Maoi should go there (otherwise it will be nothing but a sorry fishing village).

I would like to "declare" Ur as our GP farm (fish+wheat+cow+lgthoused lake), since it has lots of food and almost no "high production/high commerce/low food" tile. It also initially was my suggestion for Maoi, but I could see some other (better) places.

I have a galley with a defender, and a settler being built next to that galley. We can claim stone shortly.
If Moai is pushed there, what do we do with the iron fishing village? Moai looks so tasty there.

There are probably more sea-tiles in Stone city than in Iron, but also stone city will have nothing to work except stone and sea mainly, while at Iron, we could either cottage or workshop the (few) grassland around.
Both cities are good candidat for Maoi, but stone city will be really bad without it, while iron city might be just OK without.

Got it for tomorrow. I also think a city with Maoi/lighthouse by the stone is worthwhile in the long run.

We have a big army costing money which I would like to use on someone. I know that it will cost us 1 diplomacy point with the neighbours, but we either expand or lose - I don't think we are big enough yet. The obvious target would be Lincoln who has good land, low power, and hates us anyway. If so, I'd go construction after MC for cats. What is your opinion?

If we go after Lincoln (but probably not during yena turns), I would at least convert to Confusianism to reduce to risk with our other neighbours (even if our border in the south should be quite easy to secure with just 1 city blocking the pass.

On the other hand, we could try to go fast to optics then astro (via liberalism) and settle other lands. (We are not huge, but neither are our island-mates. We should have no problem (research, power...) competing with them.

Jabah

I agree with Jabah that war isn't happening on your turn.

I would put Moai in Bad Tibira - it will make it a decent city.

The Stone Village will be still weak with moai - besicly we just settle there for stone. I would settle it 1W, so we don't even steal the Fish from Ur. When Settled a Thundra is the same as a Plain... It can Work Food neutral Lighthosed water for some commerce - basicly paying for the maintenance while providing us stone. Or work the Stone+PlainsForest for Hammers at halted growth, when building stuff.

Tech thoughts...

We have a good Capital with high production and good Commerce. CS for Burocracy might be a good move.

Midterm Optics might be a good idea - we are still missing one AI - could be handy to know, who and how large he is. Then we can decide if and how Astronomy will help us.

I would still settle it with access to fish, even if left to Ur on general, mainly because it doesn't gain anything serious (maybe 1 or to sea compare to ocean) and on special occasion it gives us more flexibility.

It is certainly true that there will be no war in this turn set, but we can at least discuss the option. However, it turned out that we got some good opportunities to improve relations with the neighbours, and I think that it may be better to continue on the peaceful path for now.

Turn 176: It started with a demand from Sitting Bull which I couldn't refuse, but at least I remembered to cancel it after 10 turns. I start a library in Ur in order to get the GP farm going.
lwemp07.jpg

(BT) Asoka demands CoL. I guess improved relations is worth it.
178: Zimbir founded. I think it is better to have the option of sharing the fish. Both SB and Asoka are now friendly, and I ask for, and get, Masonry for free from Asoka. MC -> CS instead of construction since no war seems imminent.
lwemp08.jpg

179: Starting forge in Uruk
180: Trading currency for calendar from SB, since all other AI:s already have currency and we can get another happiness resource
182: I whip markets in Eridu and Lagash, allowing me to increase science to 60% without losing money.
183: we can now trade with Brennus, but I decline since he is disliked by most neighbours
185: Building a library in Nibru for culture points to push back Asoka's borders
190: I get a temple in Ur, pushing the GP farm up to running 2 scientist and 1 priest. First GP expected in 13 turns.

I never got around to start building the Maoi statues, so the next player will have to decide where to put them.

New Updates
We are already number one in score. We definitely have a good start here.

I don't know enough about Sitting Bull and how important religion is to him. Does someone from the team know? If he is one of those civs that don't care much about religious differences, then I would like to have Confucianism as our state religion. I don't care about last place Brennus.

Our cash reserves are running low, so I would like to drop science 10%.

Can we please remove the two city signs, since both of them are built.

From my expirience Sitting Bull does not care much about religion.
However i was often backstabbed by him - despite his very high peace weight - i think it might be because he often makes lots of troops and is high in power... Also he will spy like crazy.

Got it btw.

I looked at the save, but did not had enought time yet to actually play the turns... A busy Sunday :(

Planning to adopt Confucianism, it might be nice to have a civic to run with it (Possibly revolting together with Buerocracy ? )... We can get Alphabet+Mono from Asoka or Hammurabi for Metal Casting (Abe has MC already, so might trade it at some point anyway...) did we have plans on building Colossus ?

A alternative trade would be just Mono for Monarchy with Bull.

Also... Tech after CS ? I am thinking Machinery. Giving us a long window of opportunity for a possible Macemen war + on the Optics path (someone mentioned possible fast optics to take a look at the rest of the world.)

Construction is known to many AI's, so it should become trade-able for in near future.

I think Machinery/Optics is a good option. We need Alphabet to be able to lightbulb techs along the education/liberalism path, so go ahead and trade for it.

Seeing as we're not FIN, I wouldn't want Colossus so badly. After CS, I'd start the long journey to Liberalism with Paper, trading (in part) for Machinery if we have a pressing need for Maces.

Played, finally... Sorry about the delay...

Turns 190 - 205 / 250AD to 475AD

- Teched Paper after finishing CS, so the upcomming GS can bulb for Education. Started Machinery (3 turns left)
- Did not revolted to Confucianism - delayed waiting for CS at first, in the meantime Asoka went Christianity...
The decision for/against a State Religion just got a lot messier. I am not sure about Asokas and Hammy's stance on religions. I guess they both might care...
- On the other hand... We should have a good shot at that tasty Sankore... But it needs a religion...
- Started Moai in Bad-Tibira.

Turn 190: - Lincoln is still refusing to talk... I think we first talked about this like 3 turnsets before  Curious how long until he snaps out... Or did we do something to piss him off again ?
PS: He is still refusing to talk at the end of my turnset... I think he went nuts.

- Make a tech trade with Hammurabi. MC for his ABC+Mono.

Did not revolted to OR right away, as i was hoping to make it together with Bourocracy. Turned out thet it will be a two turns revolt anyway... The "fun" of playing Emperor i guess. However waiting to revolt into religion turned out kind of lucky - for a different reason. Asoka switched to Christianity just 2 turns later...

Turn 195: - Great Library built far away.
- Brennus came asking for OB. I refused. I think OB will not give "Traded with Worst Enemy", but we don't care about Brennus anyway...

Turn 198: - Colossus built far away.

Turn 199: - Trade for Crab with Asoka (Eridu and Uruk are closing in on the Happy cap.) And Cow for 5 GPT. Right now Brennus is everyones worst enemy, but keep a Eye on the situation - Asoka and Hammy are at different religion now...

Turn 201: - Partenon built far away.

Turn 203: - Asoka founds Taoism.
- He's also doing some good effort to bring the Christianity to us. The second Monastery in Uruk will be handy.

Turn 204: - We get a GS.
- He could bulb the better half of Education. I would wait untill we are maybe 25% in the research - our population is growing in the meantime, increasing the benefit.
On the other hand - Academy in Uruk is worth a lot (~25) of Beakers...

Turn 205: - Asoka built Hagia Sophia.

Notes:
- We are 4th in soldiers, but should be able to rectify the situation, once we can make Macemen.
- Lincoln looks very tasty... He's about even with us in power, but he has the Mids+Academy (popped GS during my turns) in capital. Unfortunately he's everyones friend
- We could trade MC for Construction (and maybe some money) to Asoka. I think we should - he will probably tech MC soon anyway.

Lincoln and Sittin Bull espeicially take what feels like Forever to start talking again.

very annoying. Lurker out.

I want a forge in Ur so that we can hire an engineer.

Is it time to start debating victory type? We have the score lead. Our military isn't that impressive (5th in soldiers). Our GNP is nice at number 2. Several other categories look good.
IMHO we don't have enough religions for cultural. We have 1/3 of the worlds pop, and growing. Domination or space looks the best bet. We have a change at diplomatic, but Asoka would be our opponent taking away someone who would vote for us.

Lurking

You stole a couple of Lincoln's workers and now you're upset that he ain't talking to you? Seems pretty fair to me.

Not really upset. Just wondering, because he refusing to talk since 60+ turns now...

Someone agree to cancel deals with Lincoln, and for whatever reason he refuses to get over it. This is generally why I hate to cancel deals...
