ls612's C2C Units

@Hydro:

I'll start making Lunar stuff once we start getting Multi-Maps. But making it now would simply add more unnecessary assets and end up wasting memory, so I don't think making it now is a good idea.

Except Hydro has maps he can test it on already. They just aren't multi maps.

The Shaolin Monk is a sort of Guard unit it needs to be changed so that it gets at least the same promotion lines. same goes for Crowbar Guard. Perhaps both need to be changed to Civilian rather than melee.

:hmm: That does sound very familiar to what i have studied about the Shaolin Monks. I am pretty sure the only reason they chose to fight is because of Bandits harassing them, because they were more or less, Helpless. Hence "Warrior Monks" in training ONLY for "self-defense" methods.

They would on rare occasion go into mission mode when there was some sort of serious injustice afoot though. Slip in, slip out in the middle of the night in a rescue mission, that sort of thing.

I don't think so. The Civilian units are supposed to only get a rather small subset of promotions. If you want them to be guards I can reduce their strength and give them +50% City Defense. That, as well as the corresponding UNITAI changes should make them into the role that you envision I think.

I am saying that both are on the upgrade path of the City Guard line ie they are also of the City Guard line so shouldn't they be of the same unit class as the other City Guard? Otherwise you are going to get City Guard units with promotions they should not have.

But that would weaken those units considerably. Just because they are on the same upgrade path does not necessarily mean that they should be the same template.

Monks are a funny issue, rather unique. I see them as a cross-classing... But more than anything I think they would be useful as a rear-anti-assassin role. Give them a unique combat class and add them to the list of those the assassin types would attack first in a stack so that they, much stronger fighters, come up to defend the weaker ones in the stack.

Shouldn't both monk 'types' be on the same class line though? Something between healer, melee, and guard?

No. The Shaolin Monk is a unit from Japan which was a warrior mostly. The Monks on the healer line are akin to the Christian monks who helped the sick and wounded.

Alright, I get that. Nevertheless... It would be nice to make at least the Shaolin Monk a unit that guards the healers from targeted attacks against the stack.

That would be China. (Not that it matters much.)

ls612 is too young to remember David Carridine as "grasshopper" in the Movie and As a Young Shaolin Monk in the old west TV show (crap forgot the name of the show). :p
