ls612's C2C Units

Since we're on the topic, however, I've often thought that the gap between Ranger and Game Hunter is too large.

And Wanderers should be nothing more than scouting units that cannot attack now that we have an equivalent Chaser unit.

That is now true.

I was referring to the anti-animal on the Park Ranger not being an indication of it being terribly useful as a hunting unit.

Oops! I double checked the upgrade tree and I got it wrong. It goes ...

Wanderer -> Scout -> Tracker -> Hunter -> Ranger -> Warden -> Game Hunter -> Big Game Hunter

So yeah there is a unit between Ranger and game Hunter now.

OK only thing i can currently find for a Ranger would be this.

But here's the tricky part. . . You need to get rid of the English parts, and add in some of the Australian unit (cant remember its name) PLUS parts of the Warden. I think that might do it??

@strategyonly

Which head's it use? The Pit Helmet or the Cowboy Hat? Honestly if it had the pit Helmet it might be a good graphic for the Big Game Hunter. Since many of the hunters share the same graphic.

Graphic #1 = Tracker, Ranger, Big Game Hunter
Graphic #2 = Hunter, Game Hunter

it would be nice if we had a unique graphic for each. Such as ...

Tracker = Something new
Hunter = Something new
Ranger = Graphic #1
Game Hunter = Graphic #2
Big Game Hunter = The graphic you just showed.

No I was meaning your position on it, as in:
  • That's much better
  • Seems OK
  • Still far too much
  • Still out of line with XXX other upgrade(s)
  • ...

Well, since you can only have 5, I can live with it. If I had an army of 20 Hunters and needed to upgrade to Rangers in the Ancient Era it would be a hard pill to swallow though.

The New upgrade cost for gatherer to worker is too steep imo, 118 Gold. So I opted to use up my gatherers on stone workshops or seed camps and just build new workers. Was cheaper that way.

@ls612
So since you said we would be working with TH and Galactic stuff after the freeze I decided to go over some balance on non-space units. Specifically future infantry.

Tech = Name (Strength)
X64 = Modern Infantry (60), Flamethrower (37)
X65
X66
X67
X68
X69 = Modern Sniper (50), Special Forces (60)
X70
X71
X72 = Modern Flamethrower (45)
X73 = Modern Marine (55)
X74
X75
X76
X77 = Hi-Tech Marine (90)
X78
X79 = Walker Droid (130)
X80
X81
X82
X83 = Powered Exoskeleton Infantry (90), Plasmathrower (70)
X84
X85
X86
X87 = Power Armor Infantry (120)
X88
X89 = Anti-Personnel Mech (130)
X90 = Automaton (70), Walker Mech (190), Tesla Infantry (100)
X91 = Special Infantry (110)
X92
X93 = Cyborg (95), Genetic Soldier (140)
X94 = Hi-Tech Sniper (65), Super Soldier (190)
X95
X96
X97
X98
X99 = Sentinel (220), Assault Mech (220)
X100
X101 = Hi-Tech Robot (290)

This should give us a good place to start. I did not include siege tech robots or vehicles. Most of these are linked together ins some fashion except for the sniper line.

Note that I sent you a PM about tweaking the Hi-Tech Sniper.

Thanks in Advance! :goodjob:

It should never be cheaper to build a new unit that upgrade an old unit to the new unit. If it is then there is something very wrong. It used to be that the cost of upgrade was related to the difference in cost of building the two units.

Now think about what you just said here, and put it in the context of Desktop PC's.
It was awhile back way cheaper to build your own PC, but with the cost of stuff nowadays, its waay better to buy a Bundle PC, or a tower by itself. IMO

The Gatherer is an exception to that rule because it is consumed building things. So yes, you are right about that but the Gathere is a special case and so I don't think I'll be changing it.

IDK about this SO, I can still build a New computer sans monitor with a New OS for ~$700. It would include a Terra-byte HD, 16GB of ram (DDR3), an i5 quad cpu, tower, 650W PS, 2 DVD players/burners (not BLU-ray) and Gigsbyte Sata/Raid/Dual Bios Mob. The only additional non specific cost would be my time assembling it.

In fact the cost is virtually the same as this comp, which I'm still using, that I built in March '09. Only upgrade has been to vid card, a MSI R6450 vid card with 2GB of DDR3 ram which I got for $69.

And my performance has been better than any bundled PC that I've seen.

So perspective here?

All I can say on this is I don't upgrade Gatherers now. I build New Workers. <shrug>

I have a build or buy decision to make next year. I've built the last 2 times, and expect to do so again, partially because I have fairly high end and particular requirements (noise and heat generation need to be kept down, fully SSD based storage this time, high performance CPU-wise, but only need 'reasonable' performance graphics wise). That really means if I were to buy I'd have to go to a boutique supplier (mostly for the low noise/heat part of the requirement), and I'd also probably have trouble finding an off the shelf config that combined 32+ G RAM, 500+ M SSD, fairly top-end Haswell CPU, yet only a modest graphics card [I can't get by with integrated, even with Haswell, but I have no need for anything above low-mid-range discrete).

If I do run into a build problem my Son-in-Law is an IT Tech/ computer builder/ etc. So I have back up. But putting a PC together isn't that difficult at all.

That said I do keep an eye out for barebones system on New Egg/ Tiger/etc. Sometimes you can get a good deal for my purposes and uses.

As for your requirement Koshling, they Far and Away exceed mine. Your latest build that you're using now mind telling the ballpark cost?

The one I am using now is three years old (just over). It cost me circa $2000, including the monitor (which is a Dell 24" 1920X1280, which at the time was $800 of the total).

I'm expecting to spend less than $1500 next time, but that won't include a monitor (the one I have is just fine). Biggest single cost will most likely be the SSD(s)

That is why I don't use SSDs, they are good for performance but just cost too dang much. Since my comp is rather new I probably won't be getting and upgrade until 2014 at the earliest.

At any rate, let's get back on topic, this is my units thread, not the computer building thread.;)

The very LAST thing I would do now is ever use a spindle disk ever again as at least my boo drive. Just that one upgrade (I upgraded the boot drive on this PC, leaving most data on the spindle disk about a year ago) was by FAR the biggest ever upgrade I have ever experienced - much more than any previous replacement of an old computer by a new one.

@ls612,
Okay Boss! :p:lol:

I'll ask about computer building in the Win 8 thread then. :D

Back On Topic.

So ls612 is the upgrade cost from gatherer to worker now etched in stone? It's more than the upgrade cost from Hunter to Ranger.

The upgrade cost is almost directly proportional to the difference in the hammer costs of the units. And I have no plans to change the hammer cost of either unit.

Also, nice new avatar! Did you make it yourself?;)
