Ludicrous and funnily pathetic news from your respective countries

The ex-minister of environment (Law & Justice) has criticised environmentalism, claiming that CO2 is "the gas of life".

He was also responsible for attempting to cut down much of the Białowieża primary forest (UNESCO place), to protect it from some beattle. Yeah, this wood was being sold with profit.

In Indonesia, the censorship is so prim, they cover even the cow udders.

Oh, and this chief auditor went on a leave when the affair broke out. But then he returned, and fired all 3 vide-directors and appointed a new one, so his party could still control the chief auditoship when he's gone...

My country is ludicrous by definition , but I still love it all the same :)

Spoiler for Squonk ;) :

btw. @Squonk - Your Avatar - something tells me it's made by Mateusz Skutnik right ? ;)

The gas that will cause his brain to melt more-a-like , when the ozon filter fails. The question remains how can You melt one that does not exist ?

Oh, this minister died suddenly just before elections. Some lung failure or something, but Law and Justice didn't waste time accusing the opposition of being responsible for his death.

On a funny note: Law and Justice launched a racist, xenophobic, ultra-catholic campaign against immigrants, especially Muslim, especially Arabs, and especially Syrians. Yet, it was under their reign that:
1) The economic immigration peaked, reaching, in 2017, the highest level in the world, bigger even then USA (if only economic migrants are included), more than 1mln per year. Mostly from Ukraine.
2) The beginnings of mass immigration of some Muslim groups started, namedly Bangladesh.
3) Poland has her first Arab and Syrian (although not Muslim, but Druze) member of parliament.

Another funny thing:

This image is of MP, Bernardeta Krynicka, snubbing and going away from the protests of parents of handicapped children, who protested in the parliament. The protest was lead, among others, by Iwona Harwich, featured in this photo, behind Krynicka. Ironically, Krynicka is a nurse and a mother of a handicapped child herself, but she was heartless towards the protesters and also said, f.e. that the goverment supports the handicapped, because they also use the stuff that the goverment builds, like the shooting ranges... She also had difficulties reading in one official ceremony, mispronouncing some words of non-Polish origin, like panteon, but even changing the adjective of the city she was in... she claimed fatigue in her tireless efforts to better the country as the reason. Oh, and she also claimed that a paedofile priest is a human too and has right to make mistakes. Anyway, Krynicka lost her sit in the parliament, right now. Harwich, which was snubbed by her in this photo, got into the parliament for the first time, on another hand.

I love my country too, and that's why I criticise its rulers. To show not all Poles are as insane as they are.

No, my avatar is from one of the episodes of Charlie the Unicorn.

Roomba robotic vacuum maker IRobot Corp. is suing rival SharkNinja for copying a device of theirs and selling it at "half the price." "Shark is not even shy about being a copycat," iRobot said in a lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court in Boston, "claiming that the Shark IQ Robot offers the same iRobot technology at 'half the price of iRobot i7+'."

Local news. A few years ago the county assessor got voted out and subsequently charged for his "executive directive" policy, under which pretty much anyone holding a public office or appointed government position could send him a notice to have their friend, family, or key supporter get their property value (and thus property tax) magically marked down. The current assessor, who campaigned as a reformer and very publicly put an end to the executive directives just got called out by whistleblowers who claim there has been no change at all in how the office does business, other than the elimination of the paper trail. Connected people still get their taxes cut in half, but the process now is that a phone call is made and lower level minions are immediately dispatched to "re-evaluate" a property and told exactly what the result of their "re-evaluation" better be if they want to keep their job.

Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon called his bank's rollout of the Apple Card "the most successful credit card launch ever."

Best comment on Slashdot:
Remember? Heck, I helped bail them out by paying my taxes and letting them keep my home! If they've now teamed up with Apple, well, show me where to sign!

Two for the price of one!

In a speech in Albury last month, Prime Minister Scott Morrison told his audience that he was praying for rain in drought-affected areas.
"I pray for that rain everywhere else around the country," he continued.
"And I do pray for that rain. And I'd encourage others who believe in the power of prayer to pray for that rain and to pray for our farmers. Please do that."
This week, Morrison spoke at a breakfast and praised prayers as "a reminder of our humility and our vulnerability … that forms a unity".
It appears prayer has become part of government public policy.

Not exactly fits, but I do not want to make a separate topic.

In 1946, Johanna Langefeld, SS commendant from the concentration camps in Ravensbrück and Auschwitz, escaped from prison in Kraków and disappeared until, in 1957, she knocked at ye door of her sister in Monachium (Muenchen). What happened is still a bit of a mistery, but it appears that she was saved and kept for a decade... by 6 of her former prisoners. You see, Johanna believed in Hitler, and prayed each day to God for strenght in fighting the evil, that is Jews. There is a photo of her and Himmler in te camp, too. But she looked like a German pleasant housewife, and acted as one. She was a bit mild in comparison with other SS women. She did use floggings as a punishment, but did not whip anyone just lor fun, she did dot make dogs bite the prisoners, she did not force them to stand in the rain or cold outside. So she was much... liked. And even during her trial prisoners would write letters to the court, defending her. Eventually they contrived a plan to save her. The initiator of a plan was a Jewish lady in fact. Classic Stockhold syndrome, I guess, but especially shocking in this case.

Part of my family is from Rzeszów too.

Anyway, Law & Justice likes to tell the opposition asks for allien support etc. It used to do the same, in fact. But well, to notify people of wbat they do is patriotic for 2 reasons. It will increase pressure on them, and perhaps they will stop, which is good for Poland. Secondly, it shows people outiside not all Poles are racist homophobic corrupted catholic fundies, as the L&J party is.

Not my country, but what's with the austrians and cellars? Underground was filmed in the wrong place...
Hundreds of man-made hidey-holes dating back to about 1000AD have been found in many places around Central Europe, England (and IIRC Ireland).
It's a fascinating mystery why they were made and a very difficult archaeological puzzle because most contain absolutely no remains with which they can be sourced or dated.

On that one, I'm guessing that it is because destroying forests is the new "green". Very profitable! And subsidized.

For the scale of the idiocy of it, the UK is burning the equivalent of about one thousand square kilometers of forest to produce 7% of its electricity. best case it'd have to burn 10000skm a year to produce the electricity used in a territory of about 130000sqm.
If they converted the whole country into one huge managed forest plantation with fast-growing species, involving total ecologic ruin and no space left to anything else, they could "sustain" their electricity consumption in that "green" way.
Evil Poland should cease burning its bad bad coal and instead destroy its forests because green energy. It's one case where the ruling party is being a "good european".

Our ministry already does it. If I remember correctly, it counts wood as green energy source.
