M1:Warlord Conquest with special

I took a look at the save. Not much to say beyond that which has already been said (boy, those legionaries really are spread out). Just one other thing. I noticed that our luxury slider is up to 50 percent which is far more than we need to prevent disorders as far as I can see. Is there a reason for this?

Regarding the next civ to go to war against the Sumerians do seem to be a nice choice. According to the power graph they are the most powerful (after us ofcourse :)) and I would prefer to take out the roughest competition first.

That's what you call tooling around and saving. Forgot to put it back I guess. I was gonna blame it on Sesn :).

Careful there, my Friend. You never know who might be lurking and spamming. :mischief:

@ sesn - niners and sox is really wierd :)

EDIT: i'm almost literate according to generally accepted practices.

Before Sesn starts getting beligerant  again, Detlef is up and posted a got it. After he post I will do my best to post the roster  .
I agree, Sesn needs to pick up the RBC15 Ottomans.

 Maybe I'll find some time a bit later. Things bogging down over there, are they?

@AT - There's a long story about my Niners obsession, that I won't bore you with now.

A long time ago, in a land far, far away, (the early eighties, and Ohio, to be precise) there was a boy. Now this boy was just a few years old, and knew very little about anything in the grand scheme of things. Well, one fall, the boy needed a new jacket. His mother brought him to the store so that he could get a new jacket to keep warm during the snows. As she was browsing through the jackets, she founf a red one that she thought looked nice on him. Although there were some weird symbols on it, apparently pertaining to a city on the west coast, she was a practical woman, the price was right, and she really liked that red.

Well, she sent the boy to school wearing that jacket, and some of the kids teased him a bit about it. Although he had no idea why they were teasing him, and calling him a "bandwagon boy", he knew that he would be wearing the jacket for some time, and might as well like it. In addition to this, he was and alsways would be a fairly stubborn person, so he set out to discover the meaning of his jacket's symbols.

He soon discovered that the symbols stood for a football team, and as his Uncle informed him, was far more successful than the two local teams. It was an easy time to be a fan. The boy started watching football, and especially the Forty-niners, at every chance.

By the time he realized that he should maybe root for the local teams a couple years later, his stubborn streak showed itself again. He decided that he would not change his allegiance for such a fickle reason, though he no doubt had no idea what fickle meant.

Fast forward to 2004. The boy is now grown, and takes great pleasure in playing an addictive game of world domination. He has long ago moved from Ohio. His beloved team is no longer the powerhouse it once was. Indeed, it is a painful time to be a 49ers fan, some would say. However, whenever the man feels that maybe it would be a fortuitous time to change his allegiance, perhaps to the very successful local team, whose fans are less than kind, he remebers the glory days, and the stuborness comes out again. He simply can not change allegiance for so fickle a reason, and yes, he now knows what fickle means.

So he clutches to the past, agonizes in the present, and hopes for the future. He has learned the definition of "fan". Will there be a "happily ever after"? The man hopes so, but first they must shed the heavy mantle of "rebuilding"....

PS - I tried to spice it up a bit, but I told you it was boring. :) What amuses me is the fickle reason I started rooting for them in the first place.

@ Sesn:  nice story, this one throws me back when i was a child.

Got it!

So what now guys? I think I should finish of the Greeks, but I noticed that we don't have all that many legionaries standing ready to take the last Greek city. Will it be enough? After we have eliminated the Greek is everyone ok with going after the Sumerians? And how about a revolt? We have both Monarchy and Republic available now. Seeing as how we are constantly at war I reckon Republic probably wouldn't be a very good idea, but Monarchy sounds interesting enough.

Edit: We can trade currency for 240g or perhaps even less. Should we take it?

I agree to the Monarchy.

There are two or three legs on the way down to the last greece city.

I started to send stacks to the brown borders (i don't know who it is). I think we should go on with these.

Yup, brown is Carthage. I believe it was Scout that expressed the opinion that we shouldn't go for Carthage just because their mercs are both good at offense and defense. We may very well be stuck with 3 def pikemen in the near future (the 3 mayor opponents seem to be in the middle ages already), but if we go after Sumeria now we might still have the far easier enkidu warriors against us. So I think the Sumerians are the better option for now.

As for an attack plan, I'm thinking of signing a ROP with the mongols. This way our AC will be able to circumvent the marshes that make up the eastern part of Sumeria. The Legionaries should take and hold the Mountain range just outside of the Sumerian eastern border.

So what do you think guys?

Revolt to Monarchy sounds fine, just make sure we have enough units to carry us through.

Yes, I'd still prefer we go after Sumeria as well.

I can't tell if Pharsalos is built on a hill, but if so, be wary of attacking a forted hop in a hill town...

Allright Sumeria it is then.

@sesn - Pharsalos isn't on a hill, but there is a river running between the stack next to the the city and the city itself, I'll move the stack to attack from the grassland NE.

Here's what I did...

Pre-flight Check
-Take luxury down to 20 percent boosting our gpt to 36.
-Some minor MM. Switch builds outside our core to spearmen.
-Antium produces 9 spt but can produce 10 spt, make mental
note to change after current legionary completes.
-Establish embassy with Mongols. Sign ROP with them for 25g.
-Buy currency from Carthage for 205g thus putting us in the middle ages.
Review of diplomacy shows that Sumeria has Monotheism and the rest is on par
with us.
-Finally I revolt. Drawing 7 turns of Anarchy

IBT
The barb stack between Nineveh and Babylon selfdestructs on the legionary near it.
The barb stack near Antium slips through our defense.

260 AD (1)
General movement. The barb stack near Antium is weakened without any losses.

IBT
The barb stack near Antium tries to ransack Antium but fails promoting
our recently upgraded warrior to elite legionary status.

270 AD (2)
General Movement.

IBT
Some more barbs foolishly take on a legionary.

280 AD (3)
The last of the barbarians are taken out.

290 AD (4)
Nothing much.

300 AD (5)
Still nothing much. Sending most of our
forces to the soon to be front with Sumeria.

IBT
Hannibal whines about our forces moving through his territory.
They are automatically moved back where they where :(.

310 AD (6)
Nothin much.

IBT
Finally our anarchy ends and I switch to Monarchy.

320 AD (7)
Time to end the Greeks:
3 Cats do 2 damage.
First Legionary redlines a hoplite.
Second wins but has only 1 hp left.
Third loses doing no damage at all.
Fourth wins and promotes to elite.
Fifth wins and takes the city.
The greeks are history! DOW on the Sumerians.

330 AD (8)
Nothing much.

340 AD (9)
First attack on Sumeria fails miserably.
I check the terrain and see that the the city is on a hill, DOH!

350 AD (10)
Nothing much.

My thoughts. Not the greatest of sets, but I believe I havent made any huge mistakes. Spent most of my turns in anarchy but I managed to keep every city but one from rioting so that went reasonably well. The barb threat wasn't much of a threat at all. I'm building a fortress at the land bridge to the eastern peninsula to keep barbs from that direction at bay.

Don't know what to do about that Sumerian city on the hill. There isn't much room for artillery near it and artillery is still far away from the city. Perhaps we should just leave it for now and hope that we can get it in a peace deal later on.

Edit: Doh wrong link, fixed.
