I don't know how many times this thread has appeared here, but I've never seen it. So, what do you prefer? Mac or PC? For me, it is certainly a PC. ;)

I guess that is due to my first computer being a PC, but Macs are just foreign ... 1 mouse button, can't make your own, and I really don't like those (well, I have to admit they are funny ) "Hello, I'm a Mac. And I'm a PC" adverts - they make the PC guy look like a complete idiot who can only do office work, and the Mac guy look cool. I won't go on anymore, not just yet...

Oh - and try and give at least one reason for your choice :p

I love making fun of Mac people, but I have to say that your third poll option is the worst. There are a few, very few, niche markets where a Mac is the best choice, but if you're asking on this site, you're not one of them. But saying PC and Mac are the same is almost blasphemy.

That said, the last Mac I would even consider using myself was the Apple IIe, which was a pretty decent system for its time. Nothing since then is worth the money. I like my computers being customizable, upgradable, and having loads of direct and 3rd party software.

Gotta go with PC!

I would think that the majority of people here on CFC would vote for the PC because after all the PC is more civ friendly :)

For a desktop: non-Mac (PC is a misnomer, since regardless of how you look at it, Macs are PCs.) Non-Mac desktops have the advantage of upgradability, lower price, and the advantage of being able to build it yourself. In addition, they tend to have very good driver support in Linux (Mac desktops and non-Mac laptops also have decent driver support in Linux, but in my experience they're still not quite as good).

For a laptop: Mac. Regardless of what laptop you buy, upgradability is very limited, and you have no option of building your own laptop. For similar hardware there is little to no price difference. In addition, the Mac can run Windows and Linux as well as OS X.

Macs are almost always less computer for more money. The only reason to get them is if you just like OSX (I don't), or if you like the "cool Mac guy" image.

I prefer PCs since I know more about them. macs are more expensive and I can't think of a compelling reason to want to own a mac over a pc.

I voted PC... BUT Honestly I can live with a Mac. In fact I would actually choose one had it not been the price. Honestly I like OSX more than any windows period. Windows has problems and one would be file fragmentation and corruption which makes the user have to defrag often and reformat about once every year or so. I reformat once every 5 months or so, because I like when my computer runs quickly.

For the Mac there is an emulation program and right now the name escapes me, but it allows for a Mac user to run Windows programs at near windows speeds. And games like Counter Strike Source run near the max out on the frame rates.

IMO its _all_ about what you plan to use it for and what you are used to using. Microsoft has such a clench on most people in the world that it makes them conform to their standards, which is why Ubuntu Linux is having to switch to Microsoft-Like menu's and what not.

Don't make judgements on Operating Systems until you have personally tested them out. Which is why I am not going to down Vista....yet... (>_<)

Er, what?

Sorry I have random thoughts go through my head. But Windows fragments big time and doesn't run it automagically like Mac OSX does. I dont run a Mac but I have friends who do run Macs and prefer Macs or Linux based systems.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Macs are awesome with Graphics and Multimedia software and PCs have the games (^_^)

That's not really a Windows problem, it's a problem with the FAT32 filesystem; NTFS generally is much better at dealing with fragmentation. The only situation where NTFS gets bad with fragmentation is when the disk is full, but that will happen with just about any filesystem.

If it bothers you that much, there are plenty of defrag programs you can get that can be scheduled to run daily, or as often as you like, but all you're doing is wearing out your drive(s).

In the minds of Apple's marketing people, at least.

In reality, the same software is generally available on both platforms, eg Photoshop. And after Apple got bold and released Boot Camp, there were more than a few tests that showed the same software performing significantly better on Windows than OSX.
