Mad Scientists Embassy

You got it Ronnie. The power of the take away is very powerful in negotiating.

Namaste MS,

SANCTA was wondering if MS would like to trade a few technologies? We were considering either of these deals:

Tech for Tech
SANCTA gives Aesthetics and Literature
MS gives Horseback Riding

or

Tech for Gold
SANCTA gives Aesthetics and Literature,
MS gives 130 gold

We hope you find the offers palatable.

The thoughts behind those offers were two fold; while we expect MS to not even reply, getting HBR earlier lets us get HA out of CK a few turns earlier, and saves us a fair amount of beakers for 2 techs that are pretty crap. We do have to ask Saturn if it is OK to trade them, but I can;t really see them saying no to it.

While MS might want to trade for the techs off Kaz, we are offering them a fair chunk of beakers that while not important now are necesarry for a Ren era war, for a tech that doesn't impact them all that much. The real question this'll raze is just how much do they favour Kaz over us...

We have a problem...we can't let MS have a scout behind out front lines checking for reinforcements for Kaz. But how do we want to handle it?

Yeah...I doubt MS are going to like us at all, even if our position is understandable. But then again...

The best thing I can think of is offering them three routes:

  1. NE SE, then immediately out of our lands towards Kaz
  2. E onto the copper, then immediately out of our lands.
  3. NE NW, then NE NE and skirt around our city

I'd be a little vague about what would happen if they don't follow our requests though...I mean, what's the worst we can demand? Nothing we can do actually hurts them, but we lose 6 comemrce per turn if we get rid of OB (OTOH that's not a massive price to pay on our side).

We could just propose that the OB agreement is for trading & navy exploration only, no ground units inside rivals territory. If they don't like that idea, close borders.

I think it's certainly reasonable to send something like:

"we see your warrior - bear in mind, this is a war zone. We would prefer your warrior to stay west or south of it's position, as we know you have friendly relationships with Kaz and we would prefer not to worry about whether you are reporting troop movements to Kaz or not. "

Spoiler :
Namaste MS,

After logging in to see barb movements, SANCTA is unhappy with the movement of Anaxogoras into our city of TKY. We feel that with the advent of paper we cannot risk you giving screenshots of our land to Kazakhstan.

As such we are canceling the OB to remove your warrior from our lands; we will reoffer OB to you on the condition that no MS units enter our trerritory without our explicit permission.

SANCTA

To be sent the minute Kaz finish their turn.

after the lack of notification of your workboat entering our waters

I would change that to read:

It was our understanding that the OB was waters only. As such no objection was brought up when you sailed your wb through. In keeping with this practice, our galley never entered your cities.

right but we have a galley in teir waters.

maybe it is better to say our assumption of the OB was: XXX after you mvoed your wb into our waters without warning.

I don't think we need to get snippy or anything. It's perfectly reasonable to tell them that we cannot take the risk that they will pass on information to Kaz and that if they don't promise to move their warrior away from our lands TKY, we will cancel OB and may well attack.
