Mad Scientists Embassy

Depends when they declare war. Considering that Kaz and Cav haven't even found our land borders yet, I doubt they could throw anything meaningful at us in the next 30 turns, especially with the pitiful MFG they all have (we have 49 MFG in IS and CK. I'm not scared).

If they declare on t120, we should have a very good warning, as by that point we have the bottleneck to our lands settled (actually should have that done by t100 at the latest), so we should have sentries up to watch for roads towards us giving us a good amount of warning.

Our problem is that we need to hold the bottleneck, so that we only need to keep all of our units in one place (and get optics quickly so we can flood the seas so Cavs can't boat us with Carracks).

I doubt we would get 3v1'd in an early war though, if all of our opponents are competent (OK, that seems to be a big ask atm...). MS know that if they do that they will get crushed later on because they have expanded so badly, so they would have to outright refuse to go to war with us (they probably couldn't really add much to the war effort anyway). Kaz are set up to research and just about deal with barbs (only have chariots, no metal yet), they aren't really capable of building a stack. Cav are probably 20 turns from our bottleneck city, in which case they would have to build a road to us (after getting Angle razed, we need a sentry on the hills to the west of that city to watch for such a road). So any stack they send at us we would have up to 20 turns of growth to deal with. With enough HA, Eles and cats, we can use flanking damage to destroy any incoming siege and wipe out some pretty big stacks with minimal losses.

So let's look at it the other way: Why can't we find Kaz and beat the snot out of them so they can't tech, if we could have such a strong army? Simply put we have no idea where they are, and they could be researching fuedalism; any damage that we could do to them (and we could weaken them back down to MS levels, even if they did have fued) would not afect Cavs growth, and they could grow larger and wreak havok on us later on. We would really need a stack of 15-20 HA to take them out, and even if we had HBR and archery now, it would take about 15-17 turns to get that sort of stack out of IS and CK.

So I'm not worried about an early 3v1 war, I'm more worried about them out teching us. We do need to be keeping an eye out for power increases though, and be ready at a moments notice to change our plans. When we have found Saturn and sorted that out, then we may need to alter our plans to become more warlike if need be.

By the way, I have a Haiku, if you need one.

crud - forgot about this last night!

The Ninjas salute the Mad Scientists.

We thank you for both of your letters. We’ve heard of this “other dimension” called "RL" that sometimes affects other nations. Isn’t Max Tegmark a member of your clan? Perhaps he can help you with some creative solutions to this problem?

Regardless, while we appreciate the sentiment of your letters – you still haven’t actually responded to us on anything of substance.

We’re talking again, and that’s good.
But what, exactly, are we talking about?

We’ve gone out on the limb to suggest extensive cooperation between our peoples. We’re pretty sure we’ve got your answer to that. But now that you’re talking to us again (we hope :)) maybe you’d care to elaborate on how you see the future of our two great peoples?

We’d love to hear your take.

Yours truly, in this universe and any others,

We need to send another letter to MS asap as it is their turn, asking them not to move their warrior SW then NW, because we need to kill the barb next turn, and we can't defend against their warrior.

Quick draft below, but it really needs prettying up:

Spoiler :

Namaste MS,
The Ninjas saulte the Mad Scientists.

We have a small request of you: We would be grateful if you do not move your scouting warrior adjacent to our borders for the next turn, as we have a worker there. While we can move him away we would rather not do so, and we feel such small gestures add much to our friendship, in lieu of current agreements.

Yours truly,
*insert name here*

*Haiku written here
No creative thoughts right now
I will try harder*

Nice work Krill and Memphus! :salute:

I think Krill's letter was pretty good. Here it is with slight modification. I'll send it off in a few hours if no one has any further comments before then?

Namaste DaveShack and Peter,
The Ninjas saulte the Mad Scientists.

We’d like to ask a small favor of you as friends.

We would be grateful if you did not move your scouting warrior to a tile adjacent to our borders for the next turn. (ie, don’t move SW into the forest, then NW into the desert). We have a worker there, and would consider it a show of good faith if you gave us some space while we wait for you to officially ratify our peace treaty.

Thank you!

Thank you, and your letter is great, send it asap (It's MS' turn, but they haven't logged in yet).

ok - good enough!
Sending now!
:salute:

Happy Easter everyone. :)

They may not have answered, but they moved SW SW.
Civ4ScreenShot0040-5.jpg

If they move onto the pigs next turn (or S or SW) they could tell us if there is a land bridge down there or not.
We coudl give them the info that it will let them double move.

Krill Looking at that Woody II warrior, can we have already destroyed Angle / Set up our own city prior to MS warrior getting there?

It might be close. If they move via the fastest possible route, we need Waterstof, the axe closest to Angle, to attack 3 times in a row and win all of them to get Angle before they can reach that city. If only warriors are defending, not to much of a worry, though we would need to get a bit lucky.

If they move the warrior south for 2 turns, then we are probably in the clear, as we have until t95 to take the city, so both axes can have multiple attacks and a few turns to heal.

We can't replace Angle until around t102, or build the blocker city (which ever one we need the first settler for) until around t98, so their warrior should already have gone past by that time.

so either way they will see we have it.

We need to keep track of that warrior because worst case would be if they somehow got that city. Although I can't see them using a Woody II warrior to attack a warrior.

I'm not sure I follow here... do we need to send another note to MS or not?

No we should be good. But if they move southernly next turn we can ask if there is a land bridge down there.

We can probably figure it out if the warrior comes back N.....if he disappears, we'll know there IS a way south!:D

Given that Kaz appears poised to do our deal for Metal Casting (then trade it to Cav on turn 101) – I’d like to propose we send this out immediately to the Mad Scientists.

Namaste DaveShack and Peter,
The Ninjas salute the wise and mighty Mad Scientists.

We greatly appreciate your willingness to safeguard our worker by not making any aggressive moves. You have the gratitude of the Ninjas.

We still haven’t got that signed deal back from you ;) nudge nudge – but we thought we’d offer you a quick and easy tech trade that we think would be of great interest to you.

Here’s what we’d like to propose:
You provide us with Math (373 :science: ) and we’ll give you Metal Casting (672 :science: ).
We’d just ask that you promise not to trade around Metal Casting or Build the Colossus before turn 100. If you’re reciprocally concerned about the Hanging Gardens, we’d be willing to promise to not build them before turn 100 also.

Basically, we don’t want to stay on the outside of a tech alliance, and are willing to offer outrageous deals if you’re willing to trade with us!

We hope you find this deal beneficial and we eagerly await your reply.

Glorious Trading

Thoughts?
Remember: getting anything is better than letting Kaz trade MC to the Mad Scientists on turn 101.

i am 98% sure they do.

But i don't think as per the rules we can send out a tech trade offer until we have alpha.
