Main Download Information

It "Looks" like it's crashing but it's not. Give it more time to load. 1.62GB Mod takes a bit to initialize the 1st Load. You got impatient I think. Put everything back as you had it originally and try again. This time wait before you act.

Now If you got Error msgs Then you need to post what the msg(s) said.

New to the forum, new to RoMAnD. Long, long, long time Civ (CivIV) player. Very happy to have found this mod.

I have the download complete. The mod folder is where it is supposed to be. When I launch the game I can see the Mod in the Mod list -> select -> OK.

Nothing happens.

For minutes. For hours.

I updated the .ini file from Mod = 0 to Mod = Mods\Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn

I launch the game. Nothing happens. For minutes. For hours. I am missing something. Any ideas how a n00b might be screwing this up?

Thanks in advance for all this tremendous effort and for your assist to get the mod loaded and running.

You mean this line.

; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none
Mod = 0

If so that's wrong.

You right click on your Beyond the Sword icon, select properties.

At the Command line, at the end, THERE you add

Mod = '\Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn\'

Note this will cause rise of mankind to load only.

If you want both, copy and paste the icon to desktop, change its name to rise of...
and add the Mod= line at end of command line.

if you want the icon, click upon the top left corner, where the icon is and search for the rise of.. icon in the rise of...folder.

Or you can just load as a mod each time, from the mods selection.

OK, let's keep it simple. I just want to load the mod.

I start the game as usual. Go to Advanced. Go to Load a Mod. See Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn. Click the radio button. The name of the mod displays in the artwork box. I click OK. I get the standard loading screen...then...nothing. Nothing loads.

So I'm guessing I did something wrong in installing the files?

I downloaded the executable. Ran the installer. Folder installed orginally to the Firaxis folder. I found it, copied it and pasted it into the My Documents->My Games->BTS->MODS folder. I see several files unpacked in the MODS folder now.

But the mod does not appear to be loading.

Sorry to be dense about it...and I appreciate any/all attempts to assist.

@Kl3mop: Try to use the new launcher. It was made to ease the management of the mod (installation, launch, update, options...).

Why "My Documents"?

This is my install path for the mod:
C:\Giochi\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn

Look for the folder where you installed Civ4, open the BtS folder inside, and then you'll find the Mods folder where to copy RoM-AND.

Note: do NOT put it in Civilization 4\Mods directly!

My link on the desktop has this address (or target, or whatever) line:
"C:\Giochi\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn

I also wonder why someone chooses this folder. My installation folder is the same as Noyyau, but for some reason someone has troubles with this folder while it works using the folder under My Documents.

This topic make me think many of you prefer to install the mod elsewhere than My Documents. I might adapt the new installer/launcher to be installed in My Documents or directly in the game installation.
The problem is that under recent windows (Vista, 7, 8), modifying files under Program Files requires administrator privileges, so it would ask unnecessary autorisations for those who installed the game in the default location...
Installing the game in my documents avoid this autorization.

Yes that is true but when I tried to use your install it would not run on my w7 machine.
People are used to the authorization question so that is not an issue.

Thanks, guys! I moved the folder back to the c:\programs86\original BTS install folder under Mods and...Boom!...I'm loaded! :goodjob:

I had read a post somewhere in the 70 pages that indicated the My Docs path was right. That's my bad.

Now (and this may belong under strategy) - what is the optimal set-up for the current state of the mod. I usually play Monarch-Terra-Standard-Normal. Is there a better config to optimize the current gameplay?

While reading your post again, i've noticed you've written that "several files" were present under My Docs/My Games/BTS/mods. I think the problem arised because you need to put the mod in My Docs/My Games/BTS/mods/Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn/ and not directly in the mods folder !

I probably did not accurately reflect my steps...lack of attention to detail may have been my original issue. ;)

I downloaded the installer. To my desktop. I launched it. It prompted me as to where the files should go. I chose the default...which was the c:\Firaxis\CivIV original install folder. It went into Mods there and unpacked everything under a single folder called RoMAND.

Because I had seen another post troubleshooting an install issue that referenced the My Docs\My Games\path...I immediately went to the system folder, retrieved the RoMAND folder (with all contents safely inside) and moved it to the My Docs\My Games path.

I never tried to load the game while the RoMAND folder was in the c:\system\Firaxis path. Had I done that as a first effort...I never would have had need to come to the board. I tried to troubleshoot a problem that had not yet occurred.

You guys got me to put the RoMAND folder back into the c:\system\Firaxis folder - - - which is where the original Installer package DID put it by default. And everything works now.

I outsmarted myself. You guys are doing a great job and I should have just taken the default path out of the box.

@Kl3mnop,
Welcome to AND! ;) :D

Once you get some play time under your belt (and your usual setup is close to optimal for now)
I usually play Monarch-Terra-Standard-Normal.
then give us some feedback.

The Mod is still being balanced (that is an ongoing project with each new addition/correction to content and code).

Again Welcome and Enjoy.

I'm playing on the Steam version of this game and I've been trying to reinstall using AND 2.1 Setup. Alternate UI colors and Formations aren't working for me. Before installing, I deleted the Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn folder in my mods folder and using the Verify Integrity of Game Cache under the game's Steam properties menu but these two features did not work for me. I chose Formations, Coal UI, and Blue Marble Terrain in the setup wizard, but only the Blue Marble worked. I have not tried deleting the .ini file before reinstalling.

@Zach: Try to use the new online installer and delete your previous version:

What is the current NON SVN release version please?

If you mean downloadable without using SVN, you can download the latest revision using the full installer (nightly build provided by Mantriur). There's another link pointing at AND 2.1 final but it's quite obsolete. That was just a stopping point I've arbitrarily placed before Vokarya introduced his new tech tree, so I suggest using full installer instead of downloading that old and outdated revision.

Thank you but my question is "What is the current revision number in the full installer?"

The one I am using now is v705 (full installer) non svn.
I want to use this last months changes in my next game but I do not want to use svn.
because I will be making some xml changes for my self and svn has a way of overwriting my changes which drives me bonkers!

Full installer is updated usually between 12 and 24 h after the release of every SVN version. So currently full installer should already be rev726, the one Afforess has released some hours ago. I'm probably going to push an update myself in the next hours, but then you'll have to wait 12 more hours to get that update with the full installer. :)

I downloaded repo exe file. How do I update after I'm done with a game? Use the same exe or download again? I'm confused lol.

Starting to rev737, there is a launcher in the mod folder which can do this task for you ! If you want it to create shortcuts, etc., use this link and overwrite your current mod installation. If not, just start the executable in the folder. Links:
https://github.com/dbkblk/and2_checker/releases/download/v0.11/AND2_installer_v0.11.exe

It can update the game and update itself.
