Governor John Baldacci says Maine needs all of the Moxie it can muster.Baldacci took time for a lighthearted legislative boost today as he signed a bill to make Moxie, a distinctively flavored beverage closely associated with Maine, the official state soft drink.
With a crowd of orange-shirted Moxie fans crowding his State House office, Baldacci used nearly a dozen orange pens to put his name on the bill.
Baldacci says the legislation shows the rest of the nation that Maine has Moxie.
He says the bill comes at a good time for the state, which needs a boost.
The bill says the former patent medicine concocted by a Mainer in the 1870's symbolizes spirit and courage.

:wallbash: :wallbash:

If you ever had Moxie you know that it tastes like non alcoholic whiskey or old cough syrup. It tastes rather horrible.
:(

Sounds even weirder than Lyme Cocacola (and now the Cola wars is still at it again with Pepsi making their own copy cat) :crazyeye:

Lime coke is actually rather good. I drink it almost everyday.

Moxie is the most absolutly disgusting thing ever made by humans. I would rather go out with a fat chick than drink moxie.

It's horrid

I agree, I'd rather Left go out with a fat chick than for me to drink Moxie.

Fear the incompetent government.
I have a feeling that it will soon become the offical drink of the US Navy.

How will this do anything except make Maine look absolutely ridiculous?

I don't care how many 3-headed horses they find driving cars in India - this is the craziest story of the week.

Can I ask what the state gets out of this, apart from looking like they pander to big business for a little cash?

It seems absolutely shocking that in the country with the worst obesity problems of the world somone in government can state-sponsor a fast food item. :crazyeye:

BTW, this isn't US bashing, I would say the same for the UK or any country (well, any western country with such scary health problems).

The official drink of the US Navy is coffee, and anyone trying to change it will be promptly keelhauled while being encouraged to rethink their position.

I've never even heard of Moxie.

Don't get me wrong, I love coffee, but I'd expected something more fiery as a Navy's official drink.

The US Navy is "dry" (no alcohol aboard ships) and in the various requirements to stay awake and semi-alert through long periods of boredom, coffee is unequalled. And, it isn't official but the per-sailor consumption of coffee is likely greater than all other beverages combined.

Ashore, the "official drink" is alcohol. Any alcohol, and more of it.

I haven't worked up the courage to try Moxie, though I've tried nearly every other specialty soft drink in the world...
