Marians: Sons of Mars

Spoiler :
I figure if Abaddon can have the monstrosity that was Na-na-9, then I can raid Finland's fridge claim part of Finland. And then wait for a casus belli.

Well I condensed Na-Na-Nine into a Chinese Empire, but he was able to claim in such a way at all due to his claiming of a vast territory at the START. :p

You can always fabricate claims if you desire a casus belli. I'm not sure if you can even colonise there; I'll have to check when I get back home at the end of the week.

Is the Rebellion in the (East Roman) Empire put down? If not, attack.

Correctomundo!

The Roman Army is now free to ... totally not use its armies for evil misdeeds. Yes.

What's the political situation in the western Polish/Czech rebel state? Do Austria or Germany have any appropriate reason to reinstall law and order?

Poland is currently getting the bad end of the stick, and it's likely Kiev will force-convert them to Judaism by turn's end unless their army is defeated by Polish fury once again.

We would like to establish the Aztec and Columbian crowns as separate entities from the Carribean one, but tied closely to each other(Vassal states).

Too gamey. I'm afraid that I can't allow that, since a PU can end, whereas a vassalage probably won't(short of annexation or them breaking away). I imagine the Colombians and Aztecs would break away anyway.

Better to enjoy your Charles V-esque power while it lasts! Remember that you can order the Aztecs to war using their religious CB and then have your states intervene on their side. Meaning you effectively have a three-partner alliance for the time being.

I'll post my orders later tonight. :( i timed out last time I did it, and all my work died a horrible death.

That didn't actually answer my question. Can I not invent a reason for militarily imposing order in that nub of land between Germany and Austria and stick a relative on the throne? :D

Orders to my minions:
Finish Civ8 & Diplo 4, leaving 1 gold in the treasury. I sign a trade agreement with my vassals, giving them more income.

I claim the three provinces remaining in East Central S. America.

I send spies to the one remaining country in northern S. America not controlled by the Caribbean to stir up public support for the Amazonian crown and find out what steps are necessary to have it agree to accept the protection of the Amazon.

Hmm, what's the military situation in Syria?

From memory they don't have too many armies at their disposal.

Fabricating claims, yes, can give you a CB if you order it.

I send spies to the one remaining country in northern S. America not controlled by the Caribbean to stir up public support for the Amazonian crown and find out what steps are necessary to have it agree to accept the protection of the Amazon.

I suppose since they're so weak there's no need to hide it... :p

Haha hey its better me than the growing monster centered by the Caribbean. And if im lucky ill get control of the Inca next turn, which would bring me close to parity.

Don't forget the Patagonians kind of hate you since your trade agreement with them auto-canceled when you signed one with the Caribs. :p

...then again logic says they'd hate the Caribs too for taking the trade agreement so they'd stay neutral in your balance of power...

We'll see how things go in the coming turns... I may beef up everyone's army level a bit so we can get alliances(read: more vassalisations/wars of influence) sooner.

Hmm, I checked and Syria isn't a Jewish country!

East Rome invades with all armies due to a religious casus belli!

We'll see the results of this invasion come Saturday or so...

Fabricating claims, yes, can give you a CB if you order it.
Consider it so ordered! A peaceful, orderly realm requires civil obedience and respect for the military. As this sworn document from their previous ruler indicates, Germany is clearly the rightful realm to do this for them.

Do know it's not automatic and there's only a 10% chance of success. Besides, chances are nothing will be left of Polanistan come next turn. :p

Right-o. I hath returned from California. I'll try to get the update done tonight.

Rome pays 9 gold to try and convert its provinces. It has a 10% chance of success, and successful conversion will certainly make Kiev happier AND keep religious revolts away.

No successful conversions, but Rome can try again next turn.

----

Failed fabrication on Brazil's part, though no discovery roll will be made since the NPCs would be too scared. ...For now.

Germany's attempt to fabricate claims on Poland has also failed.

I recommend investing in spies; they may cost a bit but they pay off by giving you more chances of success. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=10112086&highlight=spies#post10112086 Details on spies here.

War in Syria. Rome has 8 armies to Syria's 1. They will strike fast and strike hard, but the Syrians will surely strike back.

23-4. A massacre. Rome overruns 8 provinces. Syria collects 15 income, using it to recruit 3 armies that retake some provinces. Rome still has a gain of 5 provinces.

---

While the minor revolts have been put down, Glorious Russia has to deal with 4 Astrakhani revolts. These rebels are Patriots and so are very dangerous, able to flip provinces over to their mother country. Russia ends up having to hire 2 more armies, but the Astrakhan Revolt is defeated with ease.

To Come: The Oriental War

The Kievan-Polish War

Kiev continues its holy war against Poland. Pagans may be PO'd, but that won't stop mighty Kiev. 17 armies to Poland's 6.

19-18.
14-23. This army of Kiev destroyed.
28-14.
1-24.
19-15.
6-26.
6-14.
19-13.
19-21.
25-29.
20-17. Poland's army destroyed.
8-12.
19-9. All 6 forces defeated! 6 territories have been claimed by Kiev. The remaining 4 armies just barely manage to sweep across the remainder of Poland, conquering the entire country!

The peace terms are harsh. Poland is forced to give up 5 provinces, 3 of them Jewish.

Poland is forced into vassalage.

Poland abandons the pagan faith and adopts the rightful, one true faith of Yahweh!

Poland is now an organ of the Kievan Empire, and as such, Germany and Austria are asked to respect this hegemony, under penalty of Kievan retaliation.

---

Kiev attempts to convert its vast empire to the true word of Yahweh. 5 gold is spent to try and convert Belarus, with 2 successes. 3 more gold is spent to convert Moldava - 2 successes. 2 more in conquered Poland - 1 success. 7 final pieces to convert the pagans in the Baltic. 3 successes. 8 more provinces won by the Lord!

----

Alright. Kiev's drama over. Now I'll actually get the Oriental War done...

Na-Na-Nine versus the Eastern Allies

Na-Na-Nine recruits 12 armies so it now possesses a MASSIVE 32 armies!

The Na-Na-Nini Emperor realises he can wipe Qin off the face of the map before they can even retaliate and thus win the war, so he orders all 28 armies in all-or-nothing strike against the Qin, who have 16 armies.

14 of 28 armies yield a victory - 3 defeated armies are destroyed, while 1 enemy army is vanquished. The remaining 4 forces are ordered to stand guard. Na-Na-Nine's armies have swept through Qin Vietnam and their tiny colonies of Hong Kong and Macau, while also seizing parts of the Qin countryside.

----

Korea, in true fashion, is sent to the slaughter first. Their 4 armies are ordered by the Qin Emperor to destroy the Na-Na-Nini!

25 2
2 10
22 8 - N-N-N Army destroyed!

...and they do a fantastic job. 3 of Na-Na-Nine's gains are reversed. The net of the war is Na-Na-Nine occupying 7 provinces.

Now the Qin attack. Their 2 actual armies are defeated, but they recruit 4 more. 3 are defeated before they obtain a victory, seizing 3 provinces.

The Na-Na-Niners WOULD have an advantage, but Japan's intervention ends that. With their help, Qin obtains 11 more armies!

Japan combines the rest of its treasury with Korea to produce another army and take even more land from Na-Na-Nine.

Japan says it's economy can't keep this up. Withholding aid, however, could be damaging to the Qin war effort - especially if Japan funds Na-Na-Nine instead. Japan offers the Qin a deal - all of Taiwan and the 4 provinces of Vietnam in exchange for continued aid. The Qin, understanding they could build a huge empire with Japanese assistance, agree to this. They turn over the Qin territories in Taiwan immediately, adding them to Japan's economic power and securing them from Na-Na-Nine aggression. The remaining 4 territories will be given upon Qin victory.

Italy inherited the throne of Serbia, but Austria believes their claimant has more legitimacy. Each of Serbia's 13 provinces has a 51% chance of defecting to Austria. 5 defect to Austria.

Austria's already spent much of their income, but they still boast a sizable 12 armies. 8 are ordered to eliminate Serbia and its single army.

25-7. Serbia is easily crushed and the entire country falls to pro-Austrian rule.

The remaining 4 armies remain on the defensive.

Italy can recruit 9 armies, but makes plans for peace if it fails.

Winning only 2 of 9 battles, Italy is humiliated. 4 of the defeated armies are destroyed.

Italy looks around for support... if it can't find any, it will have to capitulate to Austria.

...they find support in Carthage. Like the Qin in the East, the Italians have found a godsend in the form of a major power. In exchange for the Italian territories in Libya, the Carthaginians agree to aid their Hindu brethren. 5 gold is donated to recruit a new army, which Italy puts on the defensive.

Austria's eager to take the opportunity, and orders a new assault with its 2 remaining forces.

5-14
28-7.

Austria wins the day.

Austria-Serbia's 74 + 19 income is now pitted against Italy-Carthage's 14 + 74 income. The tide can honestly go either way.

...or can it? Lombardia is itching to get a chance to not only eliminate the non-Buddhist heretics in Italy, but also to regain its ancestral homelands. But will Iberia allow it?

Time will tell.

----

Iberia spends 2 gold to convert pagans. 1 success!

Wow.. Interesting war update.

120 gold have been invested into all major powers' army tech; this is to put everyone to Military 5, so that defensive pacts and guarantees can be signed by all.

Let the games... begin.

Defensive Pacts between major powers will be forbidden until next turn, when power can be calculated and thus everyone will know who they can't ally with.

---

Also, I've upgraded Civics a bit - Civics now gives you 4 free provinces rather than 3! 33% increase for everyone!
