Marians: Sons of Mars

Ahhh.... :( wouldnt that be a way to break rebellion in RL? Perhaps a new national power, "Police State" that would reduce the +1 to +.25?

I've thought of adding 5 more National Powers, and maybe upping the max amount you can have(currently, you can only have 5). I'm thinking for every 5 powers, there should be one slot available.

As you know, there must be a compromise between gameplay and realism. Domination's strategy, I think, has potential, especially since I cap revolts at 10% of provinces. This means any revolt that occurs will be small and easily crushed. But by making it so he has a possible extra revolt for each army, it's possible for more provinces than he can handle to revolt, acting as a deterrent against expansion.

This isn't IOT, after all - it's about a slow rise to power through a combination of expansion, war, and diplomacy, not a giant landgrab. :p

Except for Nubia of course, for us, its just "Grab as much as you like!"

Well, not QUITE, but you know.

Germany attacks the rebels in Poland

24-13. Easily smashed.

Amazon attacks the Ecuadorians

3-21. Since the Amazon couldn't afford a second army, they now have lost one more province to the rebels.

All orders locked pending update.

Its a slow rise of power by having a series of complicated and crushing rules than constrain our enjoyment. I really having NOTHING i can do with my nation now for turns and turn and turns... If i want to go to war, ALL the NPC's will react due to the silly CB rules. Techs cost so much, and do so little they are pretty much pointless also...

i happen to agree. IOT6 was much simpler, and thus more fun for my simple rudimentary mind.

So who's making you guys play exactly?

Events revamping! Events will be modified slightly.

Standard Events

Economic Boom - +10% income for this turn
Settler Rush - You can claim one extra province this turn
Great Discovery - Finish your current research
Diplomatic Breakthrough - Any NPC you have the worst relations with gains +2 opinion of you

Border Dispute - Free casus belli for 2 turns on the country you have this with
Content Populace - You can change any single policy slider by one point this turn

Economic Crash - -10% income for this turn
Plague - You claim one less province this turn
Flawed Research - Lose all of your ongoing research.
Botched Meeting - Random neighboring NPC loses 3 opinion of you
Riot - A revolt breaks out in a single province

1 in 11 chance of all of the above.

Conditional Events

Mass Riots - You must have a single revolt for this to occur; revolts break out in anywhere from 5 to 10% of your provinces. This is added to the above rolls if you have one revolt, so it will be 1 of 12 chance instead.

Succession War - You and a state must be the only ones to have a royal marriage with a third party. There's a 20% chance of their ruler dying each turn if this is the case, and if they do die, there's a 10% chance of a succession war. One side will be randomly chosen - 50/50 - to inherit the throne, and the other has the option of contesting it. If they don't contest it, the one who inherited it rules it under a personal union. If you contest the inheritance, you can force the defeated third party state to be ruled under you in personal union as part of the peace treaty.

Personal Union - If you have a RM with a country, there's a 10% chance of them dying each turn. When they die, there's a 20% chance - modified based on relations, to a tune of +2% for every positive relation point - that you will inherit the throne. If two countries are contenders, there will be a succession war. If there's three or more married to the country when its ruler perishes, there's a 20% chance of a personal union. If a union occurs, it will then be randomly decided which country gets to rule a nation in personal union. States in personal union have a perpetual alliance, and you control how the other nation's funds are spent, but you cannot transfer them to your nation except in the form of a loan you must pay back.

Inheritance - If you have a Personal Union, there's a 2% chance each turn of peaceful inheritance. You can decline the inheritance and continue ruling it in personal union. When you inherit a nation, all of its wealth, provinces, and armies become yours. Any tech they have above you will also become yours, and any investments in Infrastructure will be added to yours.

Succession Wars, Personal Unions, and Inheritance enhance the flavor of the game, but will not add complexity since it's handled by me as always. Get to royal marriage-ing NPCs.

Update to come soon.

Hey, I like the challenge. Good game for me so far.

Hit the Inca up with a royal marriage proposal please :)

Eugh, more twaddle to try to understand...

Next turn. :P

Eugh, more twaddle to try to understand...

That's just the innerworkings of it, Abby. It will NOT add any complexity on your part. If you got caught in a succession war, I would VM you. No input necessary on your part.

Update 9

Incidents

Denmark has revolted against the Germans, desiring a new country.

Argentina has revolted against the Amazonians, desiring less centralisation. Accepting peace with them will cost Amazon 2 centralisation points.

PalinlandAlaska has revolted against the Canadian government, desiring for Western Canada - and all its resources - to be separated from the Eastern portions.

Gather ye best territories while ye may, for the territories that are free today, tomorrow will be claimed by (a horde of) NPCs...

Events

Na-Na-Nine had an economic crash, and so will collect 32, rather than 36, income.

Finish Civ6, then pour all into diplo...can I now select Hard Work Ethic?

*Arbitrary restrictive rules of doom here*

I kid. Yes, you may. I have added that and its effects will be felt come next turn. :)

-Iberia

1 province is claimed - Corsica.

26 of 46 income is put towards Civics 5. We adopt Hard Work Ethic!

1 is put towards Diplomacy 3(which costs. All the rest to the treasury.

@T-Fox- Speaking for myself, I really like this different style of game, and its very fun to try to beat God and expand fast IOT style anyway;)

@Ethiopia- Pull out of the two Sudanese territories, or we take them by force, casus beli or no. If you do hand them over, we will pay for them.

The Axumite Empire is not intimidated by Sudan, and builds 5 armies with all its gold. Come and take them! You will only embolden your neighbors!

As we said, we would pay for them. Since you refused:

We declare war on Ethiopia.

Build as many armies as possible, up to 6. If I have any money yet, put it in Civics.

Invade as many Ethiopian territories as possible.
