I check these posts to see when its my turn, so I had not noticed. Taken now...

I know... what happens sometimes is I take my turn in the morning then need to run to work about 5 minutes before I actually left so I didn't take the time to post that the turn was taken and I think I'll get it at work but then I get focused in there and forget all about it. I'll try to be more careful in the future here.

Magnus you're up.

Any word on what is going on with Magnus?

Sorry for the delay. It appears that I checked yesterday morning about a half an hour before you did your turn here, and the evening was just so hectic that I seem to have forgotten to check back.

Totila is up.

Now that Koshling has finally dared researching Writing, I was wondering, does it really compensate the tech loss from obsoleting the Elder Council along with other :science: stuff? There are the new tech adoptions which sum up to some % loss from the marvelous +25%:science: of the Elder Council, but even so I believe it's a great potential loss there.

By examining the tech tree (remember I'm still pretty new to C2C), I see that there is no way to get to the next era without going through writing. This means we can't do that forever (a wise decision in the mod's development IMO), which then means this tactic can be used to boost :science: production to complete all needed techs that can be researched before needing to research writing.

Wouldn't it be far better for tech development if one gets all needed techs from this era before researching writing? I don't have many numbers here to analyze, so I'm just guessing. I can understand strategic needs may rush one's civilization to research writing, but if those aren't in the way, I believe the gain in development one can get from researching all needed techs from this era before going for writing is a great and quick boost to a civilization's development, provided this civilization has relied on Elder Councils in the majority of its cities and produces enough raw :science: in each city to compensate for some buildings that give those raw :science: that are unlocked with/after writing.

You make some interesting points that should be discussed in the main forums.

There's a few things I know of that I'm not going to mention here about the move to writing... lets just say if it gets expressed, I don't want to be the one to express it. Largely though, yes, I've been avoiding writing for a while now. And yeah, it looks like he took a hit but he's still top GDP so that's gotta count for something still!

What I'M wondering is what civics are we looking for to expand the city limits?

No civic changes needed, just follow the steps of the largest nation here :p.

Jokes aside, talking about civics, this brings me to a new question: What happens to a building that depends on a civic to be available when a civilization abandons that civic? Imagine I have a Wet Nurse Hut, or a Chief's Hut in a city and I abandon the civics that allow those buildings, will they still exist in my cities that built them after that? If they do, will they keep giving me their bonus? If some bonuses which ones?

And the worst of them: If I manage to have a wonder which gives me free buildings of such a civic dependent building, if I change the civic that allows this building, will this wonder still automagically build this building in each new city I make?

If I remember correctly, expanding the city limits (I'm guessing you mean being able to work the third tiles out) is controlled by the Culture level of each city. I think that the level needed is "Influential", but I'm not sure.

As to the buildings issue, I seem to recall that they are still physically present in the cities (if there were already there), but they go "inactive" and do not provide most to all of their bonuses. I have no idea whether they would continue to be auto-built, but I would guess not.
