Maybe a new Moderator or 2 for OT?

I really don't see why we need more moderators. What we do need, is more people using the Report button even when they are doubtful if it's worth a report!

Back on topic, I'm also in favor of getting new mods, possibly for Sci/Tech as well as or instead of OT.
I support Masquerouge and LucyDuke for mods, with some support for Eran of Arcadia, augurey and Irish Caesar too, based on a general impression. I've got two infractions (and a warning for sig length) listed in my profile, so I might not be the best choice.

I am pretty sure that minor infractions do not worry TF that much. I think what is more important is the general way the mods post before they are mods. I am sure that some of the mods before they were mods could have got into some kind of trouble beforehand, but generally they have a character that makes them suitable to be a mod here. I think that is important.

You know what I think? That most of you just want to see some really cool people getting mods, instead that you think there are not enough moderators for OT.

MobBoss should be a moderator.

certainly not Erik Mesoy that guy is a stuck-up, arrogant pain in the ass.

Maybe VRWCagent too (a Mod I mean, not a pain in the ass)
Moderator Action: Flaming - warned.

Plus ignoring that I said that specific people should not be discussed

What other qualities do you think are needed?
No prizes to guess my thoughts on this.
But I find it better not to name anyone particular. Any mature person with political radical convictions would do.

this ain't a democracy on the internet, else ron paul would be moderator of all

Not so.
Then somebody would surely have mentioned me.:D

Sorry luc, you completely slipped my mind. You hereby have my full backing and endorsement to become a mod. That would also tick the radical political box.

Emu, although I didn't agree with it fully I did find your post highly amusing

Anyway, this is exactly what I just said it has become. A popularity contest instead of real positive suggestion for CFC. I really think the last nail should be put in the coffin of this thread.

I've changed my mind and I agree with this now that I see how people are behaving.

I think the current moderators are pretty much up to their task, some more active participation would be nice but then again I'm pretty much one of those that would like quite strict policies but at the same time mod to be quite vigilante as long as he remains unbiased.

Personally (as I have been mod elsewhere) I favour mod policy that takes action early and often, not in terms of handling infractions but simply stating that he's there, he's watching and what the outline discussion should be. I know this isn't supposed to be kindergarden and posters should take care of themselves (yes I know mods what you think reading that ;) ) but sometimes just quiet word or two from mod early on can settle things better than just wait all the hell brakes lose.

This also means fewer threads are closed down and the discussions can continue without interruptions.

Some extra qualities (that popped into my mind):
*Self-irony/easy-going/"aloofness"
*Dislike for spam and rudeness
*Down to earth/Can be talked face-to-face
*Knowledge of posters
*Prestige as a poster
*Genuine interest towards posters well being and understanding their position

Not so.

Just a little joke about Ron's Paul popularity by an certain internet segment in the USA.

And Yeah, Luceafarul, I'd personally favor you:cool:, but if a moderator would be selected by a voting system, I think it wouldn't be benificiary for the forum. Just imagine the problem of selecting the possible 25 candidates

In my opinion we need more poster-like mods. Our mods right now are just TOO good and everytime I need a mod's help I'm scared to write them. They are surely "staff", they are the people who control the forum. We just need people, who can connect us with them.

PS: Because my lack of English skills, I would like to say, that with this post I don't disscus the effectivity of the mods.

We don't bite; actually, we're rather friendly people ;)

In fact, I take my role to be more like a district attorney than (say) a drill sergent. I don't hold grudges - I just do the job I am asked to do.

But attorneys are soulless! :(

They need to be soulless to be unbiased.

Yes, just like an execution squad.

Didn't he already say district attorney? (no offense to ainwood or any other mods)

I think the OT could use a mod or 2, but I think that TF and the mods should decide that. Nothing wrong with user input, though.

Also, I'd like to add something to the list of candidates: knowledgeable. In the OT, nothing would be worse than a mod who doesn't know what he's talking about handing out infractions like candy.

Well, I don't think there's anything good about a mod who does know what he's talking about handing out infractions like candy, either.

I also think approachability is key. And no matter how much you may say "I'm approachable!", the best way to get down into the user base is to get down into the user base. The mods that participate in discussions are the ones I feel most comfortable addressing.

I find discussions on evolution, religion & US politics to be dreadfully boring.

As long as you address me as "sir", we'll get along fine. :snowcool:
