MB4 - GOTM24 Redux [ptw]

I moved the BB to sink a Han BB and when it redlined, I sent it home to recover. I'll get it back ASAP.

Since we've now got the east coast controlled, I'll send the 5 BB's there around the horn to do a little damage.

A couple more questions: I noticed we're building things that won't finish for 30+ turns (Kamikazes, Modern Armor, airports...). Is there any reason to contiue this?

We've got about 10 turns left on the ROP & MA with Korea. I'd like to finish off the Han before turning to Korea if no one objects.
I worry about flips and getting caught in a 2-front war.

With a little RNG luck in turn 3 I'll be able to take Shantung and Shanghai. At that point should I go for Beijing or take the central Han Valley (Nanking, Chinan & Canton)? I'm thinking of using the new arrivals to take Sinuiju & Ongjin, since Korea hasn't done that yet. Those troops could continue S to Nampo then join up with the main force at Canton.

BTW: A little bad luck turn 2 as we lost 6 of 7 bombers to jet fighters and only 1 of 4 cruise missles did damage.

More results in about 7 hours

Is this a concern or am I over reacting to a non issue. Han may not even have the techs for the balance of the parts for all I know. I haven't looked at the save since passing off. If he has the techs we need to take out the city with Apollo I would think.

Great job on the Han Denyd. Did you switch governments?

No still running 50% lux in Republic

Han had Nuclear Power & Space Flight when I started, I've got no idea how far they are in tech. They've got 5 pieces, probably the 3 from Synthetic Fibers & 2/3 from Space Flight. That leaves 1 from Satellites, 2 from Superconductor and 1 from The Laser.

To be safe I think Shantung to Shanghai to Beijing is the best course of action.

Whacking the Han is fun and if it didn't take 2+ hours per turn, I'd probably fight you for the next 5. With luck and a sleepy baby, I'll get my last 3 done tonight.

Strange coincedience, but in my two long running SG's this might be my last turn set of both.

Well, not enough sleepy baby, so I only got 2 more done.

We are now the proud owners of Shantung & Shanghai and a glow in the dark Kyoto

We've also got Space Flight via the steal and trail only by Nuclear Power to both Korea & Han.

I found somebodies little stash of transports and disbanded them. Cash is an issue right now running at 50% lux with 300+ units. I joined most of the native workers back and sold some unneeded banks/libraries etc in completly corrupt corners. Right now we've got 200g in the bank and running at -45gpt.

With a little luck I'll be tanking Nanking, Chinan & Sinuiju on turn 5. I've cut off the Han's aluminum, but I can't find their last urainum source. The Han is still at 5/10 on spaceship parts with none in process.

Denyd, it all sounds really great.
And with most of their recourses gone they cannot make new modern units.

Have you tried Ctrl + Shift + M ? If the uranium is underneath a city you can spot it this way.

As to the corrupt cities with longterm build orders, why not put them all to whealth? It might improve our deficit somewhat.

First the SAVE

Next the score: 5035 at 1750 AD

Here's the abbreviated turn log

Turn 0 – 1725 AD – Reset Personal Preferences – Upgrade a couple of Infantry to Mechs and send 1 to Kuki Isle

IBT: It’s time to duck and cover (hit return) – Korea’s done (they lost to MA and killed 1 MA) – the Han want to talk – they’d like peace but aren’t willing to give much (I thought about taking peace to avoid the counter attacks then attacking anyway, but didn’t) – We lose 3MA & Han lose 2 MA in counterattacks – a cruise missle wounds the Mech Army – Korea loses a battleship & transport heading for the island – 2 cities riot due to WW – start a couple more MA

Turn 1 – 1730 AD – We sink 2 Han battleships off the island – Chengdu is taken (no losses) – More troops land – all Han units in our lands killed – pillaging continues

IBT: Trade Dyes to Korea for 20gpt – 1 Destroyer, 1 Battleship & 5 MA die – 1 explorer, 1 worker & 1 artillery are captured

Turn 2 – 1735 AD – Settler builds Handa2 – Hangchow falls at a loss of 2 MA – Kangyang falls at a loss of 3 MA – Explorers pillage final Han Aluminum

IBT: Trade Ivory to Korea for 26gpt – Loses 2MA & 1 MI & 4 workers killed & Kyoto gets nuked – Han lose 4 MA – A Han spy is caught

Turn 3 – 1740 AD – Shantung taken killing 5MI + 1 tank & 1 fighter – losses 3 MA – Lose 2 MA killing 4MI & 3MA in our lands – more reinforcements arrive – 106 tiles to domination (over on Pop)

IBT: Trade wines to Korea for 26gpt – Transports defends against Han Battleship - Lose 2MI & 2MA – Han loses 3MA & 2 tanks in counterattacks

Turn 4 – 1745 AD – Shanghai taken no losses – thought I pillaged the last uranium source, but they’ve got another – Manage to steal Space Flight from Han – now 95 tiles until domination

IBT: We lose 4 MI, 1 Explorer & 4 workers and they lose 4 MA during counterattacks

Turn 5 – 1750 AD – Settler builds Yokkachi2 – Nanking taken with no losses (1 redlined MA Army though) – Sinuiju taken at a loss of 4 MA – 4 MA die cleaning up Han unites in our land – 7 MA die taking Chinan – Han now short Aluminum & Uranium

Notes for Ted:
1.There is a newly born Great Leader in Airport-2 for you

2.There is a large stack of artillery in Yokkachi2 & in a tile SW of that city

3.There are a stack of workers sleeping in Airport-2 & Ivory

4.I’ve cutoff the Han Aluminum & Uranium and the last rubber is on the island, the carrier is in route as are 6 Battleships to take care of that

5.There is a marine sleeping in Aki who needs to get on a transport with a couple other marines and finish off the Shimazu

6.New Azuchi is build a Nuclear Submarine and Nagahama is building a tactical nuke both due in 5 – a present for the Han (or Korea)

7.There are 4 empty transports in Yokosuka – I don’t think we need them anymore, but I left them for you

8.There are 3 explorers sleeping in Ogaki2, not sure what’s left of the Han to pillage, but I thought Korea might like them

9.We are 60 tiles from domination and over on population

10.I normally leave my successor with a better attack setup, but I concentrated more on taking cities than setting up the next leader (since I didn’t think you’d need it)

11.We’ve got 6 turns left of the ROP & MA with Korea

12.The Han are stuck on 5/10 parts of the spaceship (Korea 0/10)

13.The Han are down to 11 continental & 2 island cities

To all on the team: sorry but I got a little lazy with this. There are just too many cities and too much activity during and between turns to post my usual detailed game report and to micromanage each city for production value. I thought that getting 5 turns done before March 1st was a fair trade off.

Enjoy the :hammer: Ted

and for those lurkers and team mates who are visual people

Looks great Denyd! Score is climbing nicely and may be time, though lots of extra effort, to abandon some low food cities and for high food cities for added score. I would like to get Shimazu last and when we get close to the win I'd like the save to see if milking will win the scoring competition. I know we would all like to wrap this up with a decisive win but I'd really like to know.

Now that they are out of aluminum it's no more Space ship right? Downhill from here baby, the production might of the Mighty Odan Nation will prevail!

Denyd, nice progress. The end is in sight now.
Just let's make sure not to trigger domination.

Good luck Ted.

Got it

Looking good denyd

Notes
Next player must abandon some towns before ending the turn as we're only 4 tiles away from the domination limit. I leave it for the next player to maximise choice.

Artillery are in place to bombard Anayng next turn and there are some Elite MA in Bejing to finish it off next turn or the turn after. More elite MA are healing in Airport-1 and there's a dozen or so vet MA in Nanking (airlift target). We have 9 Armies in the field some Tank, some MA and some mixed MA/MI

We're making ~1100gpt so I've been spending on Markets mainly - as we've a full set of luxes - to minimise the WW. I've left this turns spending for the next player, again to maximize choice.

We're cranking out ~8 new MA/MI every turn so we can afford to use them up to get this over quickly :)

In-game score at 1760AD: 5226

The save is > here <

Ted

Looks like the Han is out of offensive military with only 63 more defensive units left. They should fade fast. Nice work all. Looks like my swap with Denyd will leave me with no chance of taking any Han cities or possibly even seeing action against them. Oh well, good riddance.
As stated, perhaps not quite emphatically as I will, ABANDON SOME CITIES PRIOR to hitting IT. We should get rid of a few of the cities in low food/ high corruption areas first and then low food / lower corruption. MAX the population. It is getting to a point where shields will become a lower priority. In fact we could probably win this game with only 20 more MA builds. That depends on the military Korea has waiting for us but they should be pretty gassed after doing battle with the Han. I wouldn't even try to tightrope triggering the domination limit. Get under it by 80 tiles or more now getting rid of mountain cities in ex Takada / Shizuka lands. I might even raise the lux to get some more happy faces in there for score.
Great going team!

Very nice work Mr Ted :goodjob:

With the spaceship gone and the Han six feet down and Shevek holding a shovel, it's time to begin plotting the Korea acquisition.

That nuclear sub with the tactical nuke is probably the way to start that war. We've got an ROP with Korea ending in about 5 turns that we should try to extend. There's no reason to keep a clean rep anymore.

After renewing the ROP, we might try for peace with the Han to get those 2 island cities with out a fight (and then break the treaty and take the rest of the Han).

In looking at the score chart the thought of milking for a while comes to mind as a way to finish with the highest team score, but that's not really the way the "guys in the white hats" should play.

We should probably turn on science again and go for Genetics to get Cure for Cancer (more happy faces) & Longevity (more faces).

A couple of questions for the team:

How about rushing a couple more tactical nukes to speed up the Korea collapse?
Is it time to start irrigating all the grasslands to increase population?
Is it time to add the native workers back to the cities?
Did anyone have any success with bombers in this game?
Was that Aircraft Carrier every used?
Has anyone checked our culture count lately?

@denyd: Nukes are a possibility for Korea and/or wiping out Shimazu :)

Let's leave the irrigation for barbslinger if he wants to try a milk-run.

Pollution is a problem so we need the workers for pollution control in our cores.

Han Fighters took out most of our Bombers and I didn't bother to build any more :(

Han culture is ~1.5 times ours.

Ted

My culture worry was when the Han are gone if we're near the 100K mark.

Should we build more bombers for Korea or are nukes a better choice?

To speed things up, would starting the Korean war be a good idea before the Han are gone or would a two front war be more trouble than the early start is worth?

Bombers were just plain awful against jet fighters. I'd say take a peek at Korea's troop strength, and if they have a lot of jets then go with either cruise missiles or nukes.

I was out of town for 2 days.
See it and got it.
I will play later today (hopefully).

I am at turn 4 now and it takes longer than anticipated.
I will finish my turns off tomorrow.

Little teaser:
Han is down to 2 cities and we are at peace with them for now.

More tomorrow night.
