Medieval European Mod II Preview

...You wouldn't by any change need the Warship Wasa?
If you flag it immobile. :crazyeye: Or maybe as a cruise missile with range 1.
Gustav II Adolf's Moose Cavalry would be just as useless, but that's at least fun, and not just a big embarrassment.

Maybe, if you want to satisfy us all, you could have an optional one when they version is completed. I know that's alot to ask, but it would make both sides happy.

No no, one is enough, I've spent most of my 2 week holidays with Poser and I still don't have all the LHs I need :( I've rendered Lorenzo without the cap already, and since I don't like democracy, there won't be any polls anyway :p

hrm when is this thing gonna launch? CANT WAIT

March I guess. W need to finish all the pedia background texts (I'm under the influence of TA JONES in this matter ;) ); I'm a bit tired of Poser atm, and my winter break is over so that may be it for leaderheads, though Roger II of Sicily is badly needed... Also some units will be available soon:

After that is closed, all is left is the scenarios, as in, city/unit placement and minor rule changes.

There are however, some things that could be improved before the release, namely some kingdoms received less attention that others. And other stuff, maybe someone wants to comment on those :please:

Railroads - should they be utilized as paved roads or not? I prefer not, and I'm happy of how it works so far. It creates situations in which huge military campaigns take years to be called back home, which is quite realistic, but creates a potential hole for the player to exploit the AI on huge maps. edit: and also stop cities from becoming too big - no unwanted food/shields bonus.

Ocean->High Seas - as of now, ocean-faring comes in the last era, around the time of Columbus. But that's a problem if you play on non-pangean random maps. So maybe remove Ocean from the game, so to speak, rename it to High Seas and allow safe travel though it in the 1st/2nd era?

Radar Towers - those are not used atm. They could work like something generic like "Garrison" available to all, but it would be best if it was something more unique, available to a specific group of civs.

I'm looking for a specifically Irish cultural improvement - but since the timeline is 700-1550, I guess the standing stones are out ;) Any ideas? :[ How about scriptorium (requiring Monastery) - it's not Irish-specific, in fact, it was probably in every monastery, but it would somehow represent the numerous illuminated manuscripts produced by the Irish monks during the Early Middle Ages.

Hungary, Bulgaria and Serbia are still lacking in terms of civ-specific stuff - I can't get beyond generic UUs: Nomadic Horseman, Serbian Knight. Jobaggy is from Medieval Total War, I don't even know how accurate is that (supposedly a levied peasant/huntsman). Not to mention some characteristic buildings/features/events.

if you need any help with city placement let me know, im good with maps and that kind of thing.

i will look into what units ya could use for those balcan kingdoms, im sure i can dig up something. if you need any help with anything, i'll do what i can.

Thanks, though I've seen both of these, Haywood's one was especially helpful before. The Hungarian list is not that enlightening though: mostly foreign mercenary units (which are already in the mod) and as far as the core goes, they are generic again: Hungarian Knights, Archers, Pavises etc. But I guess I can try making Hungarian units mostly foreign vassals/mercenaries.

As for the Serbs, I can rename Serbian Knights to Vlastela, although there's no information on the web (at least in English) what Vlastela was, save for some vague information that it was some kind of nobility.

and for bulgaria. i couldnt find any websites, but check out more from medieval total war. i believe they have a unit like bulgarian brigandine.

Brigands, which really isn't unique to Bulgaria.. it's a generic unit just like Serbian Knight etc. Seems that TW devs couldn't come up with something uniquely Bulgarian either :crazyeye:

if worst comes to worst, you can just make a bulgarian infantry unit and equip it with leather or studded armor with a recurved composite bow and whatnot.

But that's just a bowman ;) I can just as well stay with the current Nomadic Horseman.

hrmmm... yeh i know its tough, i tried making a medieval scenario like a year back, that was one of the hardest parts finding actuel units to use.

but man if ya need any help just let me know, ill do what i can.

Hey, I just noticed the new units! They looks awesome! But who`s the old dude with a multi-colored star? :hmm:

I don`t think there is anything unique about serbian knights... They were knights just like any other. And Vlastela were your friendly neighbourhood feudal lords a.k.a. nobility.

Druze Warrior, the Fatimid UU.

but is it ok to name the unit Vlastela then?

yeh itd prolly be for the better to name it that, its all preference but i do prefer Vlastela over Serbian Knight anyday.

I just herd that medieval tune that troubadour made songs with it, me thinks that's a perfect tune for this mode :)

The Vlastela is good name too, in translation it means "Lordship"

And they used this shield
