Medieval European Mod II 2016-10-05

nice and ye im also waiting for the new update before starting a new game not sure what civ to choose this time tho :)

@Drakan
I'm out of ideas really. No one else has this problem and there's nothing else that I know of that could cause CTD. Is it the only mod that behaves this way for you?

.

Yes, only this mod. Well thanks anyway. I'll make a clean installation and see if it works this time. I like the mod from what I've played. :goodjob:

With the update coming soon I should mention that the cat and treb explosion animations are missing. Sorry if this was mentioned already. I did a Google search but found nothing related :)

A soundtrack will be great addition!

Outstanding mod! Have been playing it the last couple of days in my spare moments as the Byzantines and have a nice little empire going on both sides of the Bosporus. A Turkish town just went over to me and with cataphracts and catapults rolling off the assembly lines, war cannot be far behind. Justinian, move aside! The Reconquista is about to get underway.

@T.A: That's because they don't have "Bombard Fx" checked in the units tab

Well I'll be! That would explain it! Big Thanks thrown out at ya @Virote.

ADD: Like @Hrafnkell says , Ive been truly enjoying this whole civvin expiernce put forth here. Thanks be to both ya'll creators for makin this happen.

I have been playing this Mod for awhile now and think its great. I do have some suggestions related to the historical accuracy of some of the units. I have played the Burgundians twice. The Savoyards are a pleasure but unfortunatly are far too powerful. Charles the Bolds mercenary troops were quick to run at the first sign of disorder. Maybe these units should withdraw from combat when a certain injury level is reached. The Swiss mercenaries , on the other hand,should have much higher offensive and defensive capacities to match the reality of their skills during this period. The three major drawbacks to employing the Swiss were that they wouldn't fight other Swiss, they were quick to mutiny and desert when unpaid, and they were implusive and could be premature in beginning an assualt. One might also want to add that they often massacred the inhabitants of the cities they captured.

I have noticed that there is room beneath the Swordsmanship tech in the Late Middle Ages...how about putting a dead end welling tech there so my cities without fresh water can get past size 6(If you use Sanitation as a requirement it would link up wonderfully) :please:

I believe the point is that back in ye olde medieval days there were very few true cities, and perhaps no metropolises, except those that came through from the ancient era, ie: Constantinople, Rome, maybe Baghdad. Anyway, not being able to get beyond town size makes for a more realistic play, don't you think?

Very true, I agree with ED in this aspect, you should note that other than the chinese, the Muslims had the most populated cities in the world, several of them about a million, Baghdad being the most prominent. They had excellent farming techniques as well as an advanced irrigation system that made the desert in the middle east habitable by large cities.

Hi to all new to the mod and thanks for the kind words :D

@Castlebuilder
Unfortunately your idea of forced retreat is not supported by Civ3 engine. We're limited only to what the editor can do. Also, Savoyards aren't really better than the Swiss (that offensive point of a defensive unit doesn't really matter, had to add something to a special unit), they only replace them because Burgundy having it's major enemy, the Swiss, as a mercenary unit didn't make sense.

The Swiss are the best defensive unit of the era, and are not made obsolete in the following era either. Making them both the best offensive and defensive unit would be too powerful and pointless from the game mechanics perspective. I wish we could implement such features as 'not usable against other Swiss' etc. but again, nothing like that can be done in Civ3.

@Drakan
Good to hear :goodjob:

Workers
I think I have that settled finally. It looks like this:
Slave (Civ3 Slave - captured/tradeable unit and starting unit on random map)
Serf 1 - most Euro civs (Germanic Worker in era 1, old Serf in eras 2-4)
Serf 2 - Byzantium,Armenia,maybe Italy/Venice? (Roman Worker in era 1, old Serf in eras 2-4)
Arabian Worker (all Muslim/Near Eastern civs, including Tatars and Khazars)
Thrall (enslaved by Berserkers only)

If you know these animations (Plotinus' workers) and see something very wrong, say so! In particular I'm not sure if Roman Worker fits a Byzantine/Armenian peasant, but it seems more fitting than the Germanic one in furs. Also Arabian one doesn't really fit Tatars or Khazars but there's nothing better atm.

Did you have to do that thing ED where you had to re index all the units because the AI doesn't like to use units at the end of the list?:crazyeye:
I might have scratched out my eyes by now...:p :)

Sorry to bother you again but when should we expect the next update? It will tide me over until BtS comes out.:rolleyes:

Yeah, I'm going to re-index the units in each BIQ file separately, including YP's scenarios, so that the unit placement isn't screwed up. I hope to put the patch up for download tomorrow or a day after.

The best way to deal with the assasains, is to destroy them before they see the light. So after ramping the east, talking the Turks, Abassids and the Fatamids, and making the Khazars and Rus destroy the Tartars, there only Cordova (in war with Castille, like the rests of the spanish peninsula) and the Almohovans, which are next in my list. Finally, I will make true the Justinian dream of restoring the old roman empire border.

Also, Germany is in war with pretty much everybody, and the Scots slowly but strong have been eating the english alive.
