I've never played a Total War game before. I find the middle ages to be a more interesting setting altogether, but if Rome is a significantly better game, I may choose it instead of Medieval.

My specs:

NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT
1GB RAM
Pentium IV CPU 2.8GHz (dual processors)
Windows XP
6 GB free (though I can free up more room if necessary)

In my opinion they're relatively similar, except for the setting. If you prefer the Middle-Ages setting more, then Medieval is the one. There are demo's of both out, though it only shows of the battle portions of each game :)

If I were you I'd invest in another ahrd drive, if your hard drive is that full it'll be slowing the comptuer down quite a bit.

Rome is good, it has more mods (depending on which version you get) while Medieval 2 has ncie graphics but not many mods yet.

If I were you I'd get both. The Total War Era's pack is only $80 Canadian and it has ALL the games.

Maybe there's a new Eras package. :shifty:

But with your specs I'd prefer R:TW, doesn't demand that much power from computer. Also you can't resist the rampaging elephants!

MTW2 is a buggy pile of crap. RTW is more polished and overall less buggy, and there is a mod called Chivalry Total War which makes RTW just like MTW2.

If you havent bought MTW2 then don't. I have it and played it once before going back to RTW. I cannot handle the bugs.

Hope that helps.

I already ordered Medieval II.

Isn't there like, a new patch coming soon?

Thats what they've been saying since december though.... I don't think they've got any intention of actually fixing any of the issues with this game.

Rome with the Barbarian invasion expansion is in my opinion the best total war game there is. I just have played it too much. I'm playing midieval now. It's a lot prettier but not as fun as challenging as Rome. I'm playing on the most difficult settings and it's still far to easy.

TW: Eras does not have M2TW.

Then.. what did I buy?

The M2 box was firmly attacked to the Eras box. By firmly I mean they were surrounded by vacoum sealed plastic.

I have not had M2 crash on me a single time. I really like the graphics.

I like both M2 and RTW equaly but in different ways.

Sounds like you got both Eras (or ears ) and M:TW2 bundled together by a store. Just clarify - M:TW2 came in a seperate box from all the other games?

The patch did leak out. It works fine, you just need to install it over a fresh 1.0 install. It fixes a whole lot of the bugs with the game. So yes, I would say that have an intention of fixing the issues with it. :)

But I admit, people have a whole lot more justification for complaining about how buggy M2TW is then they do about Civ IV. *shudders as he remembers what happened when it first came out*

Yes, it is a seperate box. Perhaps it was Futureshop that bundled it then.

A few people have commented that M2TW is buggy - is there any version of Total War that isn't completely buggy? I bought the original MTW, and it crashes all the time (and this is on three different computers, with different motherboard makes, chipsets, graphics cards, Windows versions, so I don't buy the idea I was just unlucky to have some hardware/driver problem).

Is RTW supposed to be better? It's a shame, I love the game, but the crashes make it unplayable, and I'm reluctant to risk wasting money on any of the other games in the series.

1.2 fixed a lot of things and made M2TW less buggy. I've never had MTW, so I can't help you there. RTW isn't buggy for me. Plus it has a lot of mods.

On your computer, M2TW will crash. I have a better PC, and it crashes mine after about half an hour.

Go with Rome. It's more or less the same, but, as people have said, more polished, and there are mods you can download to make it like M2TW anyhow.

I have the exact same system and I play the game on all High settings. No lag at all.

Er, except, I have WAY more than 6 GB free- I have like 400 GB free. Woo two hard drives!
