Mic6 - AWM Pangea

Got it

got time to squeeze in a short OCB game, but not enought for this one. Maybe later tonight, but probably tomorrow.

Can't wait until tomorrow :)

1375 BC (0):
osaka changed to granary
Tokyo changed to spearman

1350 BC (1):
-

1325 BC (2):
Kyoto settler->spearman

1300 BC (3):
tokyo spearman->spearman

1250 BC (4):
spot another pink border E of fruit (new land south)
attack arab warrior and win

1225 BC (5):
Kyoto spearman->warrior

1200 BC (6):
tokyo spearman->settler

1175 BC (7):
edo worker->barraks
built satsuma on pink dot -> granary

1150 BC (8):
attack karth archer and win
attack arab archer and lose

IBT:
spot barbs near baghdad (2 war)

1125 BC (9):
kyoto worker->archer
spot barb camp near baghdad

IBT:
lose archer on karth mountain

1100 BC (10):
kill karth archer

Notes:
intended to build red dot next, worker already building mine, warrior to defend
i think satsuma should be settler pump until we think about FP
archer ready to attack barb camp
sent 2 spearman to baghdad to treaten it and mecca too
needed settlers/workers so all cities kept small. we should let them grow a little now (spices will be online soon i guess)

EDIT: and sorry for losing an archer to arabs, didn't want to lose position and attacked needlessly

preturn: We are at turn 76. :hmm:

Satsuma is building a granary? This town won't be a settler factory. Due to the corruption it won't generate enough shields. So switch to worker.

I find Tokyo was founded too tight! Only 2 tiles from Osaka, and 4 tiles from Edo! What an awkward position. Did someone count wrong?

Also, why we founded Satsuma first, to leave us so stretched?

IBT we connected horses. :) Although not to our capital yet.

1075BC: nothing.

IBT Math -> Writing in 11. Osaka starts Colossus.

1025BC: I found Kagoshima next to the dyes.

975BC: Kill an archer. We build a horseman. France builds a town to our SE gems.

900BC: We have iron.

825BC: I decide to attack Baghdad. Elite archer 4/3 kills spear. Vet horse 4/2 redlines spear and dies. I use our elite spear to attack and we raze Baghdad. But we'll lose the redlined archer IBT.

800BC: Writing -> Philosophy in 7 turns. Even if we are not the first, we are not in a hurry to get Lit anyway.

Some barb horses show up.

775BC: Kill two barb horses and an Arab warrior.

750BC: Move 2 MP to Osaka for now. We'll have dyes connected in 2 turns.

Worker should chop forest to speed up granary in Tokyo. Settler should go to fill between Satsuma and Tokyo.

Philosophy in 5 turns. I am thinking about contacting France before that to get Poly, so we can pick Monarchy as free tech, then research Lit.

I've fortified a spear on iron and another spear to pillage.

Let's expand slowly. I'd like to see some swordmen and horsemen.

I set Satsuma to settler, but I think it should just keep building workers.

Mic6-750BC.jpg

Agree, we should not have founded Satsuma so soon.
We need to fill 1st city ring before expanding much further, horses and iron city was exception to get resourses...

I got it and will play tomorrow, any comments are welcomed. :)

I figured we could need one city with fast grow. Even if it's not good enough for a settler factory, at least we can supply our empire with workers from there. I needed workers/settlers during my turns and growth was always the limiting factor.

Pre-flight: I changed order in Tokyo from granary to spearman in one turn. We have settler coming out of Kyoto next turn and don't have a unit to support. (Sorry Microbe, I usually never change build order set by a previous player, but we are really low on military and way bellow our allowed unit support.

T1. 730BC Tokyo spear->horse
T2. Kyoto Settler->Horse
T3. 710BC. Sciencs down 80%, Arab reg. archer vs. our spear -> 1hp. spear. Pillaging around mecca.
T4 690BC. Disperse barbarian camp. Killed barb horse. Carth. archer exits town. Nara is founded switched to baracks.
IBT. Arab archer vs our horse -> 2hp Horse
T5. 670BC Kagoshima spear->sword. More pillages around Meca . I am hesitating to contact Frenches... I really really doubt the will trade us Phylo if they have it. Science down to 50%. I am going to upgrade warrior to sword next turn to kill Garthage archer approaching Sastuma.

I would like to stop here for now. i need team input..
So we have phylo in 1 turn. Do we want to gamble, contact pink border and check if they are willing to trade us Phylosophy. (if they have it that is)
I stronly believe such trade won't be possible, so i suggest we postpone contacting French/Incas get Phylosophy and gre tech.
Another big question what free tech should we take? Would it be literature???
Or isn't it better to get most expensive tech, which would be Construction, or Currency and research Literature ourselves since we are doing pre-build anyways.
I will finish my turns tonight, but please give my your opinions.

Sorry Microbe, I usually never change build order set by a previous player, but we are really low on military and way bellow our allowed unit support.

That's OK. We do need more military.

Our military is still a bit thin, so maybe we should delay contacting France, but if we are the first to Philosophy, I think France would trade us Poly since Arab also knows it already.

If you decide not to contact, then I would not take Lit. We have not accumulated enough shields, so we can research Lit ourselves. Construction, Currenty are both good choice, but nothing beats Monarchy if we can make it.

Ok, second part of my opera after a short intermission.

T5. 670BC. Continued. I decided to give it a try and contact French. I figured that even if I was sure we won't be able to trade nothing, the real reason I do contact them to complicate this game. We should play this monarch game as if it was emperor and on emperor i am sure we will have nothing but troubles.
Contacting French… Oh, my -- she is gracious with us, if she only new what is going to happen in a moment. :rolleyes:
On a bad side, She has all techs we have plus Poly... So i can't trade nothing and simply declare war. :(

IBT: Arab Warrior kills our spear.

T6. 650 BC. Our elite Warrior vs. Arab reg Archer ->warrior.
Our Vet Horse vs. French reg spear ->Horse and raze Chartier to the ground.
Philosophy came; I took construction as free tech, and set to literature in 13 turns.

IBT: Arab reg archer vs. our horse -> we lost

T7. 630 BC. Kill barbarian. Another archer exits Carthage.

T8. 610 BC. Pillage around Mecca, have 3 horses moving towards Gem French City.

T9. 590 BC. Horses in attack range next turn.
Our vet sword vs. reg Carthage archer -> Sword promoted to elite with full 5hp.

IBT: French Archer vs. Horse -> 1hp horse

T10. 570BC

Attacking Marseilles the Gem City.
Horse vs. spear -> 1hp Horse
Horse vs. spear -> 3hp Horse, we raze Marseilles.
Elite Sword vs. reg Carthage Archer -> We have a great leader named Tojo. :band:
Army is created. Next player please add Sponge Bob to the Army and both Tokyo and Kyoto will create swords in 2 turns.
Having a sword army in conquests and so early is all we need to win this game :-)
I love this game, 1st elite attack and we have a leader... Reminds me a lot of team Smackster in SGOTMs :)

Post turn comments: Here is what we have, Unfortunately during my turns I built only one city and lost spear and a horse. But on a bright side we have 3 horses and an army now and more on the way. Plus 2 French cities have been auto-razed.
Carthage is not a threat anymore. Arabs are badly pillaged.

For the next player, I suggest get the army ready and crush the French. After sword Kyoto could be switched to settler. Tokyo should be dedicated city to do pumping army units and nothing else.
I have 2 spearmans overseeing outsides of our borders, I don't want Barb hut full of horses appear all of the sudden and intervene with our workers. Please keep them where they are and move them after new cities are placed in neigborhood.
Change Kagoshima build to horse.. We need horses instead of swords in this game. It will take to long for swords to cross land. Sword army is okay, it has an extra movement point and has better attack/defence rating than horse army would have. It will be unstoppable.

Here is the pic:
mic6570BC.JPG

And here is the save:

Good job on getting an army.

My only complaint is the new city. Why didn't we settle it on the red dot as I said? I don't like a stretched territory like this.

And please give Satsuma high food.

Oh. I honestly missed the red dot part.... :blush:
Sorry about that, but on the bright side, my city will have less corruption and will build units faster.

We are already stretched out. now we need surround capital Kyoto with cities to maximize production, we can fill the gap later.

Continued. I decided to give it a try and contact French. I figured that even if I was sure we won't be able to trade nothing, the real reason I do contact them to complicate this game. We should play this monarch game as if it was emperor and on emperor i am sure we will have nothing but troubles.
Sorry, but this was at least an awkward move. Do we now try to play worse than possible to make it harder? We should have taken a higher level if we wanted it to be more difficult, but throwing away one of our few possible trades?

I know and i would never do such a move if it was SGOTM or any other score competition game.
But since we have gathered together to have fun and learn, i decided to give it a try.
Plus, If i didn't do the move, we would never knew whether it was possible to get free monarchy or not.
I apologize, hope there are no hard feelings. :)

I slow down science a little with 19 turns to go on the prebuild. Lit in 10 at 50% +8GPR.
Shift fog clearing spearmen.

IBT Forest chops rush sword from Kagoshima. Barbs aid in the pillaging of Damascus. Mayans complete The Pyramids.

550BC-1 Kagoshima sword-->spear Forests were covering reg grass. Continue to pillage Arabs. Fortify horse to heal. Missed suggestion to change Kagoshima to horse. Kyoto will build the horses. Find another barb camp with galley MW of Edo. Switch prebuild to Oracle and raise science back up to 70%.

530BC-2 Kyoto horse-->settler Tokyo spear-->horse. Satsuma worker-->barrack Nine workers for 7 cities. Two swords loaded in Army. Horse heading to barb camp. Healed horses meet a mayan warrior on the way to Avignon. They are up MM and Poly, but are down Philo and Construction. They have 8 cities plus the capital but lack any resources to go with Spices. Declare war w/o trade with the library within 20 turns.

IBT It takes two Arab archers to kill our elite warrior.

510BC-3 First horse does no damage to Mayan before retreating. Second horse loses one hp in fight.

IBT Barb watching spear easily defeats barb horse.

490BC-4 Nara barrack-->temple to get 2 more BG. Forest chops near Kyoto and Tokyo reveal a reg grass and a plain. Heal our horses again.

IBT The French start the Hanging Gardens. Volcano south of Mecca erupts.

470BC-5 Archer exploring the jungle NW of Arabs finds barb hut. Kill a French archer.

IBT Vet horse fortified on a mountain dies to a reg French archer attacking from the marsh.

450BC-6 Kyoto settler-->settler Kagoshima spear-->spear. Disperse barb camp on west coast in the jungle. Kill offending French archer. Kill barb warrior up north. Raise the tax rate for Osaka. Pillaging spear in Arab land sees a Hittite archer. Seven cities plus the capital and knowledge of the same techs as the others. He has Horses to go with Wines and Ivory. He is now at war with us.

IBT Arabs want to talk.

430BC-7 Edo and Tokyo horse-->horse Dispers barb camp.

IBT It looks like the Hittites are fighting the Arabs.

410BC-8 Literature arrives and start CoL. No one has it yet and we can research it be fore the Great Library arrives. I'm sending the horse that cleared the northern camp to clear all the fog.

IBT I see a 3-man charriot.

390BC-9 Satsuma barrack-->settler Army kills first spear in Avignon. I see a red east fo Avignon. I will NOT meet them.

IBT We get prompted to build the Heroic Epic.

370BC-10 Army kills the second spear in Avignon and I decide to keep the town. We have the Army 9/13 and a horse there now and we can use a forward base to work out of. If we do not want to keep it, the next person can distroy it. Attacked a French settler pair adn retreat doing no damage. There are a french sword and spear in the fog by the 2 mountains next to our retreated horse. Two horses can be directed to that location next turn.
The settler from Kyoto finally arrived at the red dot. I have workers mining 2 BG for this town and it will be connected when founded.
I have two workers going to the furs. If we settler the N blue dot on Microbes map 1 SW, we will have the furs immediately. The trade off is losing the whale. It may be better to settle on the horses and chop the forrest to help along a temple. Either way, send the workers to build the road on the furs.
Code of Laws in seven and the Great Library in eight turns.

The Game

410BC-8 Literature arrives and start CoL. No one has it yet and we can research it be fore the Great Library arrives.

Why? I don't understand it. Please shut off research.

I looked at the game, wow, we made 2 more contacts.

I would have razed Avignon. This town is too hard to hold.

I would also continue research. Don't make the assumption of the Library being a lock. If you miss then you have throw away a lot of turns for research that you can't recover.

I don't agree with that. We delay research 8 turns if we miss GL, but we still have the cash reserve to speed up future research. It may get us faster to Monarchy as we don't need to go CoL first.

I would also follow AI research path instead of research new techs at high cost and give AI discount. Since we've met most folks, we shouldn't expect to meet someone soon and trade.
