Mighty Suryavarman II

derp! save up

Man, the Balista Elephant requirement is going to be an issue. We either need to take out Sal or maybe vassal Pacal without getting advance units. Gang piling Pacal may not be too hard although he is far away. Sal on the other hand will be a tough not to crack.

No Rusten, you count for 2 so we're 5! ;) As I understand it Ororo didn't step down permanently though, just for the time being. I also think there's no major hurry to play...

I am checking the save right now.

Pacal has open Philosophy for teching, that's very dangerous. We have 4T for next GS, so kind of crossing fingers here.

Minor point on our new capital, could take back the cottage from former capital instead of working the PH imo

As for WE's, as I understand it we have to avoid MT (no problem) and Guilds (minor problem) and probably think about cannons warfare probably with muskets imo.

Why we're not building NE in former capital? Is it due to storming towards music with research builds?

I suppose we will build more barays once we get the Music.

Saladin is imo still first target.
WK doesn't have useful wonders and all other AI's are a bit too far away.

edit:
WK is building MoM (we have our reasons)

edit2:
or (didn't test this) for ability to build WE's it suffices to disconnect horses even if we have guilds/MT?

ok I tested it.

We can have MT, Guilds etc. It is sufficient to not have connected horses for ability to build WE's if we have ivory.

Yep, I held off NE for the dual purpose of pushing our way to Music and avoiding a possible GA pop. NE would not have impacted getting the GS quicker anyway as it would likely not even be built yet.

Got it.
5) Switch to HR and OR (yeah we are not in a religion but I usually do this double switch anyway in case we decide to go religion)
Just a waste of maintenance IMO. When you adopt your first religion it is almost always going to be for pacifism, and definitely the case here. The benefit of OR here is that we don't need a monastery for Hindu missionaries.

Looking at the save I'm feeling a beeline to MT is best. Been done so many times but the situation calls for it. CG3 longbows are a big pain.

If we trigger GA with artist and enter pacifism+caste we can easily get 2 GSs to double-bulb education and then take MT with liberalism. We are GPP heavy here, so I prefer this over knights and cata/treb. Should be able to reach cuirassiers very early. We may even want to consider bulbing paper here.
We'll have a 2nd GA with the Taj if we want.

PPP:
Grow cities.
Trade away copper and build some warriors for military police.
NE in GL city.
Start GA with artist, but not until we have time to switch into bureaucracy during it.
Go Hindu when GA starts for more GPP (spread to Hari and Thom with missionary from GL city)

Tech: Music -> CoL -> CS
Early CS will give more than currency here. Also good chance that we can trade for currency.
Earlier CS lets us start the GA sooner too.

Will keep my eye out for HBR to start stables and perhaps some HAs (upgrade).
Monastery in A.W.

We can get friendly with WK fairly quickly by adopting Hindu, +4 fair trade and caste.
Will gift him CoL when we reach it and get him into caste.

doesn't look bad the plan...

just general remark... we should not forget our objectives
1) Tao
2) AW
3) WE's and promoting at least 1 of them (well that could be done with GG I suppose)

I think WE's are better with cannons/trebs/cats, but as I tested if we trade away all sources of horses/iron we can build WE's, so it isn't in direct conflict (heading towards cuirs).

Are you trying to say that we're forced into Tao religion upon discovery? Or that we can't adopt a different religion?
Doesn't say that in the rules.

AW will be put in AW. Building it is not a big problem with bureau and the hills.

nonono...that we have to find it first before everyone else, nothing more...

you didn't mention the GS in 4 turns unless I missed it.

Ah okay. Forgot to mention it indeed, just seemed so obvious that it slipped my mind. ;)

Silence is golden I suppose.

If there are no issues I will play tomorrow (Saturday).

Yep, plan looks good! Nothing to add really. Well, if you can get calendar at some point cheapish, that'd be nice to hook up those silks and have some options for trading resources.

rock on, Rusten!

TS played. Feeling a little woozy from drinking beer all day so minimal reporting, sorry.

Basically things went according to plan.

We get Tao turn 108 in crabs.
As expected we were able to trade for currency fairly soon. I start selling cheap techs for gold.

Also pick up construction in trade. Not that it matters much as we're heading for MT.
Start artist GA 25 BC. GPP heaven (and not just in this city).

Just finished CS and we're ready to adopt bureau. Didn't do it yet as we need to discuss whether to continue pacifism or to go OR. WK has spread hindu to many cities now so there is a case for OR and whipping courthouses (as we're Khmer baray comes to mind too). Thinking we won't get a 2nd GP in the below city for a while so pacifism is not as needed. It's only Hari and GL city now.

We now have 2 GSs for edu bulb. Don't know whether we want to bulb paper as well.

Next player: Irrigate grassland everywhere.
WK also has HBR ready for trade this turn. We should definitely grab it and start preparing for war. Hammers will be the problem later.
