Mini-NotW IV: I'm on a Boat (GAME THREAD)

and we pretty much knew that either Paulus or Methos was the second Octopus overlord.

...so that was the lie you were telling me? You thought I was possibly one of the Overlords? I wondered what the lie was, as you always have at least one.

Congratulations BananaLee for your first wolf win!

(At least I believe this was the first time you were a wolf.)

I must say, both Banana Lee and Paulus played really well. :)

EDIT: Yah Methos, we were feeding you some subtle propaganda we wanted to get back to Banana Lee. But I wasnt really lying to you that much. Remember when I bluntly told you that I thought this might be a conspiracy between you and Banana Lee?

That was before we got more conclusive proof from Krill though.....

Even more than Banana Lee and Paulus III- I have to applaud TheForestAuro.:goodjob:
This NoTW was an absolute blast for everyone, and you did a really great job as a GM.

Thanks a bunch for running it.

well another fine proof, that keeping things in closed circles is not a wise strategy for the innocents.

I had pretty convincing info that Nictel was innocent (strength 1) and Paulus a prime suspect (Strength 3). but the only person who talked to me, was BLee, who told me had checked Paulus negative for night ativity. So one PM from your group that Blee might be dodgy would have solved the whole game.

Also I do not understand why Nictel did not tried to contact me, when his life a n the line, since he knew about my Knowledge.

Apart from that my "teammate" the helmsman decided to just take enough part in the game, to not get replaced, without ever answering to a single one of my contact PMs. S much for commitment.

Well, that's it then. Thanks to all, but especially BananaLee and TheForestAuro, for setting up a good game. ;)

I really wish I had participated more fully in this game, it was a brilliant setup. But I was hideously busy when it started, and then I only really got to play one full day before being killed. And I completely forgot I had a prophetic ability too. This game was not my finest moment for sure...

Anyway, a great job TFA! :goodjob:

Oh, and to all those I lied to about black powder and cannons and whatnot. The reason was twofold, first it would make me seem dangerous at night (but those words obviously didn't reach Tasslehoff ). Second and most important though, my motivation was to keep everyone from leaving the ship. By telling you I was the one you needed to convince, I thought it would keep you from searching for other means to escape. Oh well, at least I managed that objective. :trophy3rd:

I've said it before :mischief:
But congratulations to the Octopus Overlords Cultists!
Well played!

Also I do not understand why Nictel did not tried to contact me, when his life a n the line, since he knew about my Knowledge.

My screams of innocence wasn't enough? :crazyeye:
But to be honest I doubted that the fact my strength was 1 would have made any difference.

Fun game TFA! Great job.

My favourite quote of the game:
TheForestAuro said:
lololol
I can't believe they lynched you
I am flabbergasted

Nobody was getting away until I died, since I carried the key to the rowboat.

Slave
Damn. Those. Merchants.

They are such fools. Your ordeal has been harsh, unforgiving, and filled with disaster. Caught by pirates and sold into slavery, your true heritage is that of powerful aquatic priests that worship the Octopus Overlords – something that you have remained dutiful to even in your imprisonment.

You see this boat ride as a perfect opportunity to take your revenge and amass a powerful force all at once. But your revenge was cut short when two of the ship's denizens arrived – you had only slain the captain before they forced you to flee from the scene of the crime. Now, with the ship on high alert, you can only slip your bonds long enough to eliminate one person a night.

You will Drown this whole ship. Revenge will be yours.
Team: Octopus Overlords Priest
Ethnicity: Lanun
Base Strength: 3
Ability: My Side of the Story – You have been tortured by their insanity for so long that it has become normal for your murmuring to make those around you uneasy. Although you are capable of pretending to be sane, your true madness grows with each day. Should the bodyguard fall, you are more than capable of assaulting the mental defenses of another to turn them to your goal – but only once.
Item: Captain's Key – This key unlocks the chains binding the rowboat. None shall have it.
Personal Goal: Take over the ship with drowns by morning eight. (see team PM)
Victory Condition: Total Enslavement.

Well I was sure that you were innocent already, but my vote would not change th result. also by this time I had not enough time anymore for this game. But a bit of prodding to go public with my knowledge might have been enough, to show pinman that Paulus was the one to chase.

What really surprised me is how silent you were with that information. As you might've guessed, BananaLee told me immediately of your findings and my reaction was along the lines of "oh crap that's going to expose me".

It was only because I assumed that you already told someone besides BananaLee (I was thinking of another on the Merchant team, or perhaps Bratmon/Pinman) that you survived that night - and because killing you might have risked exposing us both in that case, since the other contact would then know that BananaLee was working against you. BananaLee thought that there was a good chance you didn't tell anybody, but I thought you'd have told somebody else for certain. Therefore I went ahead and killed Chandrasekhar that night because we knew him to be high strength, and I was hoping to get BananaLee to the captaincy.

Should have paid more attention to that. :( Two NOTW's at the same time is just too much. Not doing that again.

You're a sailor. You used to be the boat's janitor, for what it was worth, but one night of lucky drunken poker with the poor crewman and you'd found someone to do that job for you. You've always been lucky like that.

You're not really too worried about the killer on the lose. Just as long as you stay lucky you shouldn't have to worry about it.
Team: Ship Crew
Ethnicity: Lanun
Base Strength: 1
Ability: Lucky SOB – You're just a lucky sort of guy. Your vote breaks all ties, and you win all ties.
Item: Sextant - +1 Progress
Personal Goal: Win a tie.
Victory Condition: Get to the Shore Alive or Escape the Boat.

Well the night after I found out, Chand was killed and found innocent after having strength 3 too. so I was just not sure anymore, what these kind of information meant. Also both of my "innocents" did apparently have time problems too. So I had no one to communicate through.

As I said I just should have gone public yesterday, but I am still getting used to the concept of werewolf games being over with 9 people alive. i.e. I thought I had at least 2 more days.

TFA stated before the game even begun that even with a lot of people there would be mechanics to drastically speed up the game. The game ending early seems to be easy to conclude from that.

Congrats guys :) good win.

I wondered about the knife Paulus got tbh. He got it then dropped off the face of the earth...

Darn, I thought that the slave and bodyguard was somewhat strange from the beginning, but that surprised me .

More on later :S

As I said, by the end, the game was "solved"- We knew that Banana Lee was working with either Paulus or Methos- Had we survived the night with the optimal result (Myself and Banana Lee both dying- CCRunner would have won the game by spreading the information)

As for the whole closed circles thing, by the end of the game I was in contact with Methos, Paulus III, Banana Lee, Krill, CCRunner and Nictel before he died. However, I really should have contacted you. I was debatiing whether or not to do it in the end, but I figured it was best to wait till after BL died.

We didn't lose becuse we werent contacting everybody and cross-referencing their stories, we lost because Banana Lee and Paulus played the game strong, and then were smart enough to block my night actions to be safe. (They didnt even know I could kill I believe, but they were clever enough to be cautious anyways- which won it for them)

BTW, here is my character PM:

Team: Ambassadors
Ethnicity: Ljosalfar
Base Strength: 5
Abilities: None Shall Pass – During the night, you may choose to protect one individual. As long as the ambassador is alive, you may not protect anyone else other than her without her permission.
Item: Royal Armament - +1 Strength. Should you be on the receiving end of an attacker with less strength than you, you instead take Strength Damage equal to the attackers strength. This damage recovers at a rate of 1 per night that you do not use your ability. In addition, you may expend this item to perform a night kill.
Personal Goal: Prevent an attack on both yourself and the diplomat, and successfully escape with him.
Victory Condition: The Diplomat Survives

Your ambassador, CCRunner, has been instructed by the Ljosalfar diplomatic corps to carry out an important mission at your destination. It is imperative that he reaches the shore, and it would not at all surprise you if the Diplomat was the true target of the assassains.

You must find a way off this boat before it is too late.

Good luck!

And here is the PM telling us that CCRunner was attacked on Night 2:

Bratmon, because you used your ability your strength did not recover, but the wound is superficial and caused no more damage.

They didnt even know I could kill I believe,
Heck, I didn't even know you could kill until you decided to ;)

And I have to say, making so many people who didn't want us to escape the ship made it quite difficult

Edit: my PM's--

Diplomat
You needed to get across the sea quickly, but now you've really done it. The damned secretary of yours picked the one boat with a murderer on it, and now your entire mission to the court is in danger. Your faith in you guard notwithstanding, it is imperative that you find a way off this boat – and fast!

Lucky for you, you brought one of the best guards the diplomatic corps could muster. As long as he lives, you know your live isn't in danger.
Team: Ambassadors
Ethnicity: Ljosalfar
Base Strength: 1
Ability: Smooth Talker – You are a sly, persuasive fellow – much more so than your average elf. Your vote counts double for all purposes.
Item: Bag of Money – It helps to have these sorts of things on diplomatic trips.
Personal Goal: Escape the Ship without the Secretary. She can deal with this mess by herself.
Victory Condition: Make it to the Shore Alive or Escape the Boat.

Here's my starting PM:

Quartermaster
As the Quartermaster, you're in charge of ensuring provisions and supplies, a difficult task with the altruistic Thoral at the helm. He added on the entire diplomatic staff at the last moment and then set sail before you could get more supplies. You've been trying to ration off the food as best you can, but at last count there were only 160 full day's provisions left. Each person eats one a day.

Guiltily you hope that the killer will take a few more lives before getting caught. You just hope he's not on board.
Team: Ship Crew
Ethnicity: Lanun
Base Strength: 2
Ability: Put Your Foot Down – As the Quartermaster, you are more than within your rights to ensure that the boat makes it to shore with the supplies available to you. With the permission of the new captain, whoever they may be, you may choose not to feed one individual every night that the supply total is under 100. PM me their name during the afternoon and the effect will take place at the evening post.
Item: Provision's Room Key – You have the key to the provision's room. Anyone trying to escape by rowboat would at least need access to this or they would starve. And you're not letting a single piece of food out of your sight.
Personal Goal: Be elected the new captain and ensure the trip ends with enough supplies
Victory Condition: Get to the Shore Alive

Every evening post TFA would PM me with how many rations we had left and unfortunately I was too busy with the main NOTW to notice the discrepancies in the numbers. Right out the gate CCRunner started talking to me about supplies so that they could escape with the rowboat. Realizing that I was now a prime target for the wolves, I lied and said I didn't have any. The first time I used my ability was on CCRunner, as I realized that if he escaped with the rowboat he would need navigational instruments, which could cause the rest of us to lose, so I went after CCRunner.

I needed the Captains permission to use my ability on anyone and I didn't contact Nictel when he was Captain, so couldn't use it that day. Pinman and I had discussed on who to use it on had we lived one more day.
