Minor Suggestions Thread

Japan got Buddhism from Korea, so I think in the game, Japan should just get its religion from natural spread; how it is now.

i have no idea of how to convince them to be.

Is the boost of their UU really working?

In case, which UUs do really need a boost?
Camels? Immortals?

I and some others had some ideas on the Mongols in this thread, if you haven't seen it. They're far beyond "minor suggestions" though.

IMO, no.

Camels? Immortals?

Berserkers and Janissaries. Berserkers should definitely start with City Raider I and Janissaries should have 2 movement like Musketeers have.

Further to my earlier post, there really needs to be a bunch of changes to the resources in Australia. I don't see any reason why the suggested changes below would impact on game balance, given that colonisation of Australia is such a late development in the game.

I understand that some resources are needed in certain locations for game balance. But Australia is not really affected by this as for most of the game it is entirely empty. Given this, I think that the resource distribution in Australia on Rhye's map should become a much more accurate representation of the real distribution.

Currently we have:

I think we should have:

I suggest the changes for the following reasons:

1. Gems. The most abundant gemstone in Australia is opal. The largest opal mining area is in South Australia. The Gems currently in the Kimberley region of Western Australia are out of place (why are they here?) and should be transferred to Coober Pedy, in the desert to the W of Lake Eyre.

2. Crabs/Whales. The biggest crayfish harvest comes from islands off the coast of Perth in WA. Whale watching in Australia is best observed off the south-eastern coastline between the Great Australian Bight and Bass Strait. As such, I think that the Crab next to Tasmania should be swapped (with slight tweaks in each position) with the Whale off the SW coast of West Australia.

3. Great Barrier Reef. Currently the world's largest coral reef (running along the entire coast of Queensland) is not at all represented in Rhye's map. I think that a Clam and a Fish should be added to the coastal waters of northern Queensland to represent the enourmous abundance of marine life in this region.

4. Sheep. Australia has a lot (understatement), Rhye's map has none. I think Sheep should be added to the Murray/Darling basin, the hill tile that I have shown would be a good location.

5. Wine. South Australia's Barossa Valley is easily the largest winery area in Australia. I suggest that the current Uranium hill becomes a Wine hill and the Uranium is relocated to the desert hill immediately to the north.

6. Bananas. I think that the southern Sugar on the north-east coast of New South Wales should become a Banana resource. Sugar cane doesn't generally grow this far south and this area (around Coffs Harbour on Rhye's map) is one of the larger Banana growing regions in Australia (although there are also others further north along the coast of Queensland).

7. Gold. Kalgoorlie in West Australia is the gold mining capital of Australia, but for some reason Rhye has placed Gold on a desert hill which is several tiles too far to the north of Kalgoorlie. I suggest removing Gold from the current hill and adding a desert hill with Gold two tiles further to the south.

I thought there are sheep in Australia, just they appear at a later date. I have not seen this, but there is a python code which includes sheep for Australia. I will go check to make sure.

Edition: Here is the code

if (iGameTurn == con.i1850AD):
gc.getMap().plot(12, 45).setBonusType(iWine) #California
gc.getMap().plot(31, 10).setBonusType(iWine) #Andes

gc.getMap().plot(114, 11).setBonusType(iSheep) #Australia
gc.getMap().plot(116, 13).setBonusType(iSheep) #Australia

gc.getMap().plot(121, 6).setBonusType(iSheep) #New Zealand

gc.getMap().plot(19, 41).setBonusType(iHorse) #Mexico

gc.getMap().plot(58, 47).setBonusType(iRice) #Vercelli
gc.getMap().plot(12, 49).setBonusType(iRice) #California

Right. I thought I had taken a savegame from late enough to catch this, but apparently not. I chose 1800AD, when I should have chosen after 1850AD. :(

Perhaps the distribution of the Sheep after 1850 should be looked at also in light of the changes that I have suggested above? Rhye?

Hey Rhye. Just recently found this thread, but am a big fan of RFC. I notice at the beginning of this thread a discussion about the preponderance of Hereditary Rule. One way I got around that was to tweak the Government Civics as follows: Despotism, Dictatorship, Oligarchy, Monarchy, Republic, Parliamentary Democracy & Junta. The way I saw it was that Oligarchy represents the Classical Democracy & Republic practiced in Greece & Rome respectively (where no individual has absolute power, but rule is at least partly hereditary), wheras Dictatorship represents a single ruler-appointed without any hereditary claim to leadership. Monarchy of course represents the Hereditary rule of kings, Queens, Emperors etc etc. Republics are Presidential Democracies, where ultimate power is vested in the hands of a single individual-but where that individual is elected by some kind of democratic vote. A parliamentary democracy represents a system where power is not vested in any individual (much like Oligarchy), but where those who rule are determined by popular vote. Lastly you have a Junta-which is like a dictatorship, but with power in the hands of multiple people appointed-not elected.
Of course, some historical situations remain unexplained by my civics model. For instance, what is Modern Iran? Is it a Republic? Is it a Dictatorship (with the Ayatollah appointed by the Mullahs)? Is it a Religious Junta, with ultimate power lying with the Mullahs, and the Ayatollah merely being a figurehead?
What about Great Britain & several other Constitutional Monarchies. On the surface they match the Parliamentary system, wheras they have elements of a Monarchy.
Anyway, just a suggestion.

Aussie.

I am not sure which age of Greece you are referring to, but Athens was a Direct Democracy. All of the citizens, except possibly woman and slaves and the amount of votes people got were not the same, would vote on laws.

Athens was however the strongest city-state during the Periclean age. Otherwise known as the golden age of Athens. At this time they were also the leaders of the Delian League. I guess the issue is that you cannot look at Greece as a unified country until after it declared its independence from the Ottoman Turks in the 1800's. So you should not take the average of all the Greek city-states and say they all followed that.

The are a couple of places where the AI builds cities that annoys me. Like western Sahara. do you think it would be possible to stop them building cities south of Marrakesh?

Would it be possible to have cities in Ireland/Scotland to collapse as the celts instead of independents if the civ in the area colapses?

I haven't noticed that they did that.

Since Urajisutokku is a bastardized Vladivostok, not sure that the Japanese should found a city with such a name.

Would it be possible to provide Japan with a Buddhist Missionary at its start like the Khmer have?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_in_Japan#Nara_Period

Japan spawns in 655 A.D.

On the other hand, might this be too unfair to other civs which don't start out with missionaries? Though America gets one as well... I don't know, what do you guys think?

Japan spawns in the 655 B.C.E.

:lol::lol::lol:

Rome is broken (the UHV), I had the 5 barracks, aquaducts, and amphitheatres by the list date but it showed I missed that UHG (BTW it checks after the listed date)... :(

Have the Janissaries have shock, cover and formation instead of their current ones (it gives them the same effect except that the promotions get passed on)
