Minor Suggestions Thread

Think I saw this on the last page but have a another idea.
Shouldn't if you conquer all of a collapsed civs territories, have the ability to grant those cities independence under the civ that existed their as a vassal?
and the other-If a civ is vassalized shouldn't their be a option to grant it indepence at the conquerors will?

About the immigration idea. I meant a worldwide immigration aspect to the game. where if their is plague or unhappiness in a city population could be lost to a neighboring civ. The UP for America could be modded to increase the chances of Immigration to the US drastically (75% perhaps?) which has realistically happened.

Also agree with adding a horse resource in Korea and ruins on Crete to represent the Minoans. I think a few ruins could be added to the US, one in the south west (anasazi pueblo bonito) and maybe one along the Mississippi as well.

That's be a nice touch.

Yā! Back on topic!
This thread is for all the suggestions that don't really deserve a thread, so post all your minor proposals now! I will start:
The subject is too major for a Minor Suggestion, though. (Perhaps an idea for a Major Suggestions thread?)

Also, Sk8r, do you think we should merge I suggestions (mine from post #815) into one thread, because they are related and major suggestions?

I agree with the last 3 posts. (With this caveat: If one thinks the rise of Japan had nothing to do with nationalism, one should read a history of modern Japan; Japan did not aspire to become a "European" power, but a Great Power. As with Chinese Japan considered Europeans "barbarians" - with reason; both only desired to be treated on equal footing. The Western denial to recognize Japan as such was a contribution in the rise of militarism in Japan in the 1930s, at the expense of more liberal forces.) The subject is too major for a Minor Suggestion, though. (Perhaps an idea for a Major Suggestions thread?)

Actually the racism went both ways. The Chinese were certainly not looking for fairness, they considered the Europeans beings unworthy of their own presence unless the foreignors performed the kow-tow. I don't know the specifics on Meiji Japan's nationalism, but I doubt equal footing was all they desired.

Hadn't mentioned racism myself. The kow-tow was part of protocol when visiting the Son of Heaven; this compares to Chinese visiting a European court without observing protocol, i.e. a serious insult (lèse majesté). Also, no Western nation would tolerate a non-Western nation to take control of port cities without declaring war; the Chinese did this, but were ofcourse defeated.*

* Ultimately, the imperialist encroachment upon China would result in the rise of the Nationalists, who turned out to be so corrupt as to be supported by Western powers, leading ultimately to the establishment of Communist China in China proper. (Japan took the lesson to heart and endeavoured to establish a de facto equal footing; unfortunately, Japanese imperialism (initially ignored by the Great Powers) took an ultranationist turn in the 1930s.)

I have a suggestion regarding the Mali UP.
I understand that the Mali people got their wealth mostly by slave-trading. If this is right, then maybe their UP should enable them to hire a worker out through the mercenaries screen, and also receive double income from mercenaries.
This should be more historically correct, but might hurt gameplay as it dictates that the Mali player should use Mercenaries to get the UHV. So what do you think? Maybe we could come up with a UP that is more historically correct without hurting gameplay that much?

At one point it supplied half of the gold in the old world. I believe salt was pretty important in the economy.

It depends on what you'd call "correct" of course. I would not favor the change of slave trading over the current situation.

This is merely an aesthetic request, it wouldn't make any difference to the gameplay AFAIK. Still, I request the Great wall in the 600 AD start to be where it has been historically. IIRC, the GW is, once it is built, not related to borders anymore. So, sea tiles could be used to create a wall where it has been historically, in stead of an entire wall. It's not that important, but it could be nice to have as an aesthetic feature.:D

that's what I wanted to do. Isn't it more or less where it used to be? Remember I can't do that exactly, because it has to reach the shore by both sides.

Can't you add your own coast tiles and put them back after the wall?

If possible, the Mesoamerican civs should turn into Natives rather than Independents if they collapse, at least until a certain date. Two reasons:

-Independents trigger the conquerors event for the remaining Mesoamericans.
-Independents have access to the same tech as the Eurasian indies, so you end up with ex-Mayan civs building Longbows way too early.

good points

I think the Immortals need to be slightly stronger. A well defended warrior can have a fifty to sixty percent advantage against your immortal.

Immortals can be a little stronger, but they really should be weaker compared to phalanxes (to account for Alexander the Great). Maybe give them some attack benefit against archers.

Would it be possible to provide Japan with a Buddhist Missionary at its start like the Khmer have?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_in_Japan#Nara_Period
By 627 there were 46 Buddhist temples, 816 Buddhist priests, and 569 Buddhist nuns in Japan.
Japan spawns in 655 A.D.

On the other hand, might this be too unfair to other civs which don't start out with missionaries? Though America gets one as well... I don't know, what do you guys think?
