Emperor Karl-Franz looked out from his palace onto the reigon of Altdorf that in the Old Days was known as Magnustadt, after one of the greatest Emperors in their history. Now, however, it was simply called the Shanty, for it contained numerous refugees from the attacks from these Black Arms.
How could they? He could accept the Abhorrents launching attacks on distant corners of his Empire (he had even taken part in numerous liberation campaigns against them). But to strike at the very heart of Reikland herself? He almost commended them for their bravery. Even Altdorf would have fallen to the Black Arms if it weren't for the bravery and sacrifice of several thousand armed soldiers. He looked at the gash on his left forearm, and thought of his fight against a Black Oak that had gave him that wound. Had be been less informed about Chaos, he would have called them demons.
In the meantime, he and his officials could barely keep his city in order. Crime had skyrocketed to nearly unimaginable levels due to to the amount of poverty that was in the Shanty. Cults, whether they be extremist devotees of Sigmar, the Old World gods, or even to the Dark Gods themsleves had sprung up in the meantime due to the fall of Western Reikland. The Witch Hunters were almost occupied 24/7 dealing with these heretical churches. The sorcery of the Warp was bad enough to deal with, but the extremist Sigmarites were no better. There were the Humanists, who believed that mankind was the superior race, and that all other races, whether they be Mobians, or even the Dwarfs, were inferior scum that should be exterminated at every opportunity. This sect seems to have been taking hold in the province of Ostgrenze, and despite every attempt of the Witch Hunters to supress them, several dozen lynchings were reported every month in that province. In retaliation, several Humans were also found gruesomely murdered in retaliaton. Even he felt uneasy at the Mobians, but he was sane enough to realise that the Reiklanders needed to cooperate with them if they were to survive in this New World. This new church preached that the new technology (and the old technology too, for that matter), was heretical and 'gifts' from the Chaos Gods given to lead the Reiklanders astray. Already, several Primitivist priests had been convicted of Arson, after the mysterious burnings of several factories.
Yet, he felt that in some way, the Primitivists were right about technology. For the last three years, Karl Franz had engrossed himself in the science and technology of Bundesleet. He had, however, neglected Magic. The Magical arts had suffered ever since Reikland had been transported to Mobius. The Lores of Magic had been completely shifted, and by now only the Jade Order and Bright Order remained in the Colleges of Magic. To survive, Reikland must also focus on the Magical arts as well as the Sciences. The new Lores of Magic were to be studied, Battle Wizards would be trained, and perhaps even new weapons of war based on Mobian magic.
