Moderator Question: Is this C3C conversion allowed ?

What about attack animations for the King Units? They would resemble the original unit, of course, but it's not as if you can use this attack if you don't have the original king. For example I'm thinking about doing a "throw a fireball" attack for some of the kings, turning them into Magicians.

Thanks for dropping by. :)

Our stance with this issue is the same as it was with PTW. The extras units are a unique case since we had hoped to include them on the Conquests CD but did not have the room. Ah! That's good enough. Thanks Jesse. :goodjob:

All I wanted to do was to plonk the Gallic Swordsman onto a horse, give him a new helmet, a new shield, a brown cloak, mail armour, a tunic, and change the sword for a spear..... :)
(So all I really needed was his trousers)

Kryten from the look of that Im pretty sure you can post it. As noone could ever use it as a Gallic Swordsman.

Ya, if you hadn't said that you mounted a Gallic Swordsman, I would have believed that you made that from scratch.

Hmmm, so I guess I'll finish the Modern Marine for now. But I very much doubt I'll post it- for the time being anyway- since I made the conversion so as to resemble an Infantry version of the TOW. It might appear as exclusive part of my mod and equipped with Firaxian Copyright (if that mod is ever gonna be finished, that is  )

Thank you, everyone for making this point clearer and adding to the discussion :)

I think that one good way to treat these kinds of units is to see if they can be used in stead of a original C3C unit. Thus I think that a Medieval Infantry with a sword instead of the mace is too close, but if the new unit adds something that wasn't available before it should be ok.
I think this attack animation for Temujin should be ok, as you can't use it without the rest of Temujin. ;)

Excellent idea mrtn. :goodjob:

Yes, if you just post the new attack animation on its own, then it will be of no use to anyone without the rest of the animations (such as default, run, death, ect), which can only be obtained from the PTW or C3C cd's. :)

Emphatically in agreement, I am!

Just to clarify - what about other modified stuff?

I plan to post an update of Firaxis´ Napoleonic conquest soon.

It comes with numerous new or modified graphics (mainly advisor screens, advisor heads, citystyle, some buildings etc.) but makes use of the existing units of the Napoleonic conquest (of course their units anims are NOT included in the zip I´ll post, except one from the now freely available PTW extras folder).

I also want to post an update of the biq file, which incorporates all changes I´ve done. Since the biq is completely useless without the C3C add-on I hope it is ok?

Hi BeBro,

IMHO -- although I'm not an attorney -- that doesn't sound conceptually any different than posting a mod based on "vanilla" Civ: you're not posting anything more proprietary than you would if you were moddding the original (tech tree, a map, whatever). So my best guess is, Go for it!

Best,

Oz

So, I'd assume using a shield would be OK (Which is definately a relief because I was planning to use one, I'm going to modify it a bit too)

Kryten, I really like that unit, btw.

Very cool unit you got there, Kryten! Lookin' forward to replacing the Horseman for Nordic civs! :D
