Here are some ideas for modern civ-specific units :)

Americans- No change

English- HMS Invincible or HMS Dreadnought ;)

Indians- Sepoy (infantry)

French- Le Clerc or Mirage

Germans: No change either (maybe Leopard???)

Chinese- Red Guards (marines)

Russians- MiGs or T-34 (Hind??)

Japanese- Zero? Bicycle troops?

Egyptians: Not sure.

Zulu- Changed to South Africans  . Like it or not, they are still the most developed country in Sub-Saharan Africa. They're special unit would be the Rooivalk chopper.

As for the others, maybe we can change them to more recent civs?

as for HMS Invincible and HMS Dreadnought they were names on ships, not types of ships, same goes for tha Kaga(but im not 100% on that one though)

Some Ideas...

Russians- Katyushas or Su-27's
English- Gurkhas (Britain rarely uses English troops in their wars anymore)
Egyptians- Desert Hunters (Infantry with +2 Movement, +2 Defense in Desert)
Japanese- Light Carrier (Cheaper carrier with +2 Movement)

Can't think of more... need sleep..

for the Egyptians definitely surface-to-surface missiles. they were the first to use it in a war ('73 war)

The HMS Dreadnought was the first true modern battleship. It is THE reason battleships are also called dreadnaughts. For a time, battleships were divided into dreadnogght BB's and Pre-drednaought BB's...As such it's OK as a unit in my book...although I wouldnt go so far as to make it a unique unit for the british. If you wanted to use a unique ship for them, I'd go with the battlecruisers. The British seemed to love those...

Riiiiiiight until the point the Bismarck made a mockery out of Her MAjesty's fleet by sinking the Battlecruiser Hood and several others before finally being sunk.

I just said they liked them..not that they were that good of an idea. ;)

Are you forgetting WWII's V-2s from Germany? Unguided surface to surface missiles.
