[modmodmod] The Sword of Islam Reborn

Also, I've seen in the comments some versions in pictures with the Pontic Steppe (north of the Black Sea) and related steppe civilisations included - is this WIP or just a submod?

The merged map is finally available and working. Besides combining, @GregFred187 and @DrLoboto maps, I also incorporated @Nizou Greek Islands. I also shifted mainland Greece 1S, so it lined up better with Asia Minor, and made a couple of minor terrain changes. Played 25 turns on it and so far, everything spawns in its correct location. The one big change I'd still like to make is adding the eastern coastline of India, there should be some ocean in the southeast corner of the map, not just land there, but that will be more work and I'll do it later. I also need to make the northwest corner of the map more than just empty plains.

I'm thinking that eventually all of DrLoboto's civs could be added, alongside Serbia, Bulgaria, and Hungary. Perhaps Wallachia or some other Romanian state as well as an NPC Poland (since most of Poland is not on the map).

The NW and SE corners of the map still need to be finished. These civs were already added by DrLoboto to his modmodmod (there's a link a few pages back to download it)

  1. Khazars
  2. Oghuz
  3. Khanids
  4. Kievans
  5. Alans
  6. Chalukya
  7. Kypchaks
  8. Khitai
  9. Ilkhanate
  10. Golden Horde
  11. Chagatai
GregFred187 wants to add Serbia and Bulgaria, I think that Hungary and Wallachia should be added, too. I'm not big on adding Poland, Lithuania, or Russia, since they will have most of their cores outside of the map, and I don't want to expand it any further north or west, although maybe to the South one day to have a playable Axum, Somalian states, and South India.

How is the Frankocratia depicted in this mod, since the Balkans and Greece are included?
Currently it's pretty much the same as in normal SoI.

Yeah sounds like there is enough content to add in the existing expanded map. Serbia and especially Bulgaria should be 100% in the game. I don't know how large the map goes but Hungary seems less important - and Wallachia can be a non-playable independent state.

EDIT: I mean, if the map reaches until Budapest, then Hungary 100% needs to be added - but that by itself is a massive amount of content that will therefore need to be added in.

It seems to be unclear to some people (no reproach:D) what I am trying to do at the moment, so let me explain.

First, I am trying to merge my mod, which expands SoI to the West (and some other features) with the main parts of DrLobotos mod. These are the maps expansion to the North and East, some new civs and wonders.
As soon as I managed to make the playable again, i will fix and polish the merge, like adjusting the (at the moment) empty Transylvania.
When this is done, I will pass over to adding completely new civs to the Balkans. These will be definitely Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Wallachia, maybe Moldavia, unlikely Polish-Lithuania.

At the very last, I dream about Venetian Crusaders civ, like Jerusalem and Antioch. But this will take some time.

I hope now is everything clear about the future of SoIR
Like to ask!

Just to be clear, these are my internal names for the all the 'purely' new civs I added. When you add in respawns, more or less every major state that existed in the timeframe and territory of my original extended map (so, minus the GregFred187 additions to the west) is covered. Jalayirids, Crimean Khanate, Kartids, Kazakhs, Dzungars, etc. Basically, everything north to modern Saratov and east to modern Tacheng/Tarabagatay I tried to render + populate.

I modded things for my very specific playstyle, so much of the stuff will likely need to be changed/taken out, at GregFred187's prerogative of course. I'll be around when I can if anyone needs help or an explanation of the screwy coding I did, to hopefully make things move faster.

I'd really like to play this, but unfortunately I keep getting a CtD at the InitEngine stage with an error reading failed to initialize the primary control theme.

I redownloaded and reinstalled from the Git and got the same ctd. However, downloading from SourceForge allows me to actually play. Unfortunately I'm still encountering errors. Selecting the MapsMerged scenario results in an error that skips the civ selector and then causes a CtD. The second scenario (Middle East and Greece 750 Ad, which just shows the generic globe) loads the civ selection screen but CtD when loading. The third map (Middle East and Greece 750 AD, which actually shows the map) allowed me to select a civ and load, but a traceback error with python caused a CtD after a few autoturns - I tried as a few different civs and it seems that it'll cause a CtD after a few autoturns as any civ that isn't one of the starting ones.

At the current status, the MapsMerged is not playable. There should be a "Middle East and Greece 750 AD_north+" Map, which is the farthest working one yet.

Don't know what's changed, but redownloading from SF again and starting anew actually lets the map load without issue. Maybe it was just going to the correct one immediately instead of another or just starting a Byz instead of a later spawning one?

Also, I know this has been asked before, but would you consider adding in Zoroastrianism as playable vis a vis a Tabari civ? Could be Bavandids or could be Ziyarids/Mardavij - northern Iran had multiple anti-Islamic rebellions over the first century fo the game's timeframe, some of which came close to succeeding, and it does seem a wasted opportunity to not let a player assume command of that. Plus it would be another Shiite civ for later.

Seconding this!

I want to be honest, this is not part of my current plan. It has nothing to do with the map expansions.
But I don't want to totally refuse it at the moment. I just want to say that further civs in the map's core will take some time (if i decide to work on them someday).

Current status is weird. I am able to start the game as makuria, abbasids and play some turn, until to oghuz spawn, then game crashes.
But Byz totally disappears when starting a game, all of ther citys and units. WB file seems to be fine (since byz start is in WB and not in python)
I will work on that today a little further, and update my status on GitHub in the evening.

I have bad news.
I somehow messed up with the github version and my local version. Instead of publish my progress, I fetched the old files back to my computer. I don't know exactly how much I lost, but it seems to be some days of work.
I will review on what status I am now, tomorrow.
Next time I will take more care of what I am doing with Git.:wallbash:

Hi is there any easy tooltip for Portuguese 1st UHV? Like where am i suppose to conquer I am kinda loss with all the available starting ships.

Hello! For Por 1.UHV You need to conquer ALL port-cities of Indian ocean, Arabian Gulf and Red Sea.
I know there is small problem with the counter (it somehow counts some of the conquered cites in wrong way), but I played a full Portuguese game and I can promise that it works correctly, as soon as you conquered all of them.

Here a little impression of what a finished Goal should look like(its a weird angle:crazyeye:):
Spoiler :
ENDE_Estado de India.JPG

But a fully tooltip is a nice idea (like you see which province a tile belongs). Maybe comes little later:thumbsup:

How on earth did you get that angle for the screenshot? I knew that you can rotate view left and right (to make it look isomorphic), but I've never seen an upside-down view like that!

In your CivilizationIV.ini file search for:
Code:
; Allow Camera Flying
AllowFlying = 0
and change it to 1.
In the Game, press ctrl+alt+f (i think in some mods it's only ctrl+f)

Maybe you also don't know about the "cheatcode":
Search for:
Code:
; Move along
CheatCode = 0
and change it to "chipotle".
You don't have to use it, but it's kind of useful for developing(Or improving your winning chance:satan:). You can do several things like ctrl+z (german keyboard) reveals the map and lets you investigate rival cities, or ctrl+shift+leftclick lets you place units, and many others.

Some good news::clap:
I was able to restore my work from the Recycle Bin.
Seems like I did not loose that much. So I will restart working on SoIR this afternoon!

Progress on the extended map is coming along well. Feedback is welcome. (Open it as a saved game, not as a scenario). I don't think Poland is a viable civ here, they would only have 3 cities at the edge of the map. Hungary is definitely viable and a good addition, as is Wallachia, in addition to Bulgaria, Serbia, and DrLoboto's Civs...

I hope I don't sound inappropriate, but the folks at RFC Europe are planning to expand the map eastwards and it seems like some of you guys are working on expanding this mod's map westwards. I would suggest you join forces with each other since the two maps are overlapping quite a bit and the historical times covered are similar.

Hello again! What is the status on renewed work please? And where can we find the latest playable version as envisioned by you?
