That thread about Al-Zarqawi got me wondering what news source most folks find the most reliable. So who's the fairest of the fair out there?

Heh! I remember their edition after the 2000 election. Serbian peacekeepers deployed to the US! Priceless.

The local national news in my country are pretty good.

As for anglosaxon news: BBC & New York Times.

AP and Reuters, I'd have to say.

The bias in FOX, Al-Jazerra, etc. is quite obvious. The bias in something like BBC or most European news sources is a bit more subtle. It tends to be located the degree of coverage various things recieve, not in editorial coloring. For instance, they do not outright say "America is evil" in their coverage, but they tend to give a disproportinate amount of coverage to things that make the United States look bad.

AP and Reuters, because they sell news to all over the world, seem to be the best.

By the way: One of the local tv-channels airs 60 mins with a few weeks delay.

Seems to be a pretty reliable source to american stuff?

CNN is the fairest of them all. FOX is the opposite. they are like a biased lie machine.

...

Almost everybody around here have access to CNN and, I think, Fox news, so I wouldn't worry to much about the coverage of US. American voices can be heard as well.

CNN is hardly unbiased. It's mainly the media of the capitalist elites in the world.

CNN have some serious problems with geography.

from the Doesn't Geography matter anymore? thread.

If you want to comment on these maps or whatever, take it to that thread and ask Marla Singer or someone.

I like FOX News at 10p.m. It talks about the community where I live in, not the entire US. :)

I'd say listen to anything from FOX News to Al Jazeera/Al Arabiiya and make up your own mind.

If I'd have to choose one news channel I'd say CNN. Fox is too rightist, BBC too liberal.

From those listed in the poll, I would say BBC.

On British TV, I find Channel 4 to be the best.

For British media in general, I find the Independent to be the best, because it clearly differiniates whether it is stating fact or opinion.

Hmm, yeah I should have specified I was referring to FOX News the cable channel with that first choice, not local affiliate network FOX news.

you can get that on NBC and UPN as well, their views arent so biased

@Robopig, re the map: It says CNN in the bottom right hand corner. They may have got it from Google Earth, but a TV news station can surely find an accurate map rather than the first thing someone googled. After all, they are supposed to tell people facts, are they not?

maybe CNN and google earth have some plot to brainwash us into an unrealistic France. while you are corrrect they may have just not known where the towns were.

While I'm no CNN fan, it is important to point out that they're still doing a service to the probably 80% of my countrymen who haven't a clue where France is in the world at all. At least they'll know it's in Europe by that map.

I voted AP, since i've never seen or heard a case where they have distorted the truth. BBC is a close second. Don't get me started on FOX News: It is basically a media outlet of the Repubican Party.
