Most Overrated Games

All you gents and your talk of hardcore, is it all really about the image? I miss the days when it seemed like more people were into games because it was fun and less because its some kind of trend where we all have to show how manly we are with our hardcore systems. And for the record, although Ive said it many times, Bioshock was way way way way overrated. I was so consumed by the hype that I bought it the first day it came out only to be brick disappointed the next. I will give them points for introducing some new useful technology and tech ideas(such as the procedural terrain rendering and such) but other than that it was just a boring ho-hum FPS with an even more boring predictable lot and story. The phsy powers were useless, the combat boring and the environments were just tired, it looked damn good, but it doesn't amount to anything if the story and game play don't match up.

I don't think being a "hardcore gamer" means much. It mostly means you get angy at people in online games, and would rather be great at playing a game than enjoy playing it.

Hardcore gamer is just some weak self-indulging ego . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . that people pull to try and make themselves superior to a lesser crowd, but when it all comes down to it, your a gamer, your still meddling in strict nerd culture, in strict fat forty overweight with acne culture.

No. Hardcore gamers mean they are really into videogaming and spend more on it, a really dedicated hobby. As opposed to casual gamers which is the new target demographic of Nintendo.

I play games to have fun. What does that make me?

A gamer. Depending on how much time and money you spend and how much you track the gaming industry determines the rest.

Money? :crazyeye: The Playstation 3 is the most hardcore system out now?

I was thinking more on games bought & time invested rather then consoles, but yes PS3 probably isnt the first choice for a casual gamer. Though you can also argue the lads who have top of the line PCs can be considered hardcore gamers.

See, I don't pay attention to when games come out and all that other fun stuff. I don't even read game reviews. Maybe that's why I like almost every game.

Let's see...

It's the largest and most powerful of all the 7th-generation systems.
It's home to two "perfect" games.

As far as the Wii goes, I think that could be because the GameCube didn't attract too many hardcore gamers, and so Nintendo is focusing on the casual guys. That is evident by the fact that Twilight Princess has not been selling well in Japan (though it's been selling well in the US and is now the third or fourth best-selling Zelda game).

Now, does a port of Resident Evil 4 with the extra content from the PS2 version sound casual though?

And honestly, I'll eat my own head if Super Mario Galaxy gets ahead Super Mario Bros. 3 or Super Mario World in one of IGN's Top 100 Games Lists.

What is your criteria for "Perfect"? Using both gamerankings and metacritic I see no games that are rated 100% (my criteria for perfection). I choose these sites because they have more than one reviewer per game, unlike IGN.

In fact, the two highest rated on the PS3 are cross platform games (GTA4 and COD4).

According to metacritic, there are currently 13 Xbox 360 games with a rating of 90 or above, whereas the PS3 only has 5. (FWIW, the PC has 79 at 90% or more - I crown it the real king of hardcore gaming).

Oops. The "perfect" is because IGN and Gamespot gave both GTAIV and MGS4 a 10/10. Sorry for bringing that in.

Though Gamespy gave MGS4 a 4.5/5.

If there was one console with the most "perfect" games, then it might be the SNES. I just got my hands on the GBA version of A Link to the Past, and I just got Zelda to the sanctuary.

I remember we used to have it, and I was too scared to play. After seeing all the good scores it got, I decided that I had to give it another chance, and I have succeeded.

I also own Metroid Prime, though I can't play now due to my younger brother playing, uhm, Soul Calibur Legends.

That game (SCL) is probably underrated, but I haven't played it yet. Graphics look pretty good (for some reason) and sound is pretty epic.

Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. It doesn't deserve any of its awards

Final Fantasy series

I think GTAIV is overrated, I mean it's awesome, but a 10.....more like a 9.0

I think GTAIV is closer to a 9.031829.

Can you honestly tell me that something as simple as a numerical scale can give in depth opinion on a game? I mean, If I HAD to, TESIV:Oblivion would get a ten, and so would MGS3, however, Oblivions ten is far more worth it because Ive spent maybe forty hours on MGS3 and Ive spent at least one thousand and still going on Oblivion, and then of course, Ive just made the numbers useless now havnt I?

I don't why I'm bringing this up, but I am.

Oblivion Ratings
Gamespot: 9.6/10 (Xbox 360), 9.5/10 (PS3), 9.3/10 (PC)
IGN: 9.3/10
Gamespy: 4/5
Gamerankings: 94% (Xbox 360), 93% (PS3, PC)

MGS3 Ratings
Gamespot: 8.7/10 (Regular), 9/10 (Subsistence)
IGN: 9.6/10 (Regular), 9.8/10 (Subsistence)
Gamespy: 4.5/5 (Regular), 5/5 (Subsistence)
Gamerankings: 91% (Regular), 93% (Subsistence)

It's just sad that Oblivion was going to be rated T at first, and then some topless skins were revealed through a mod.

@CivFan333: At Gamerankings, it's 3rd and 4th, right behind Ocarina of Time and Super Mario Galaxy, but it's user score at Gamespot is 9.2/10. And PALGN's two perfect scores that I know about so far are Resident Evil 4 and Super Mario Galaxy (GTAIV got a 9.5/10 and Brawl got an 8/10).

And why did I bring some ratings up? I'm just dumb, that's why.

Seriously? They were just cell-shaded graphics. You can't just discard them as being kiddy. They were really quite good looknig and allowed facial expressions to really be utilized.

IMO my younger brother is playing Wind Waker right now and he hasn't given me a chance to play! He is on one of the sneaking missions.
