Most Overrated Games

no, Twilight Princess and wind waker are like polar opposites:
1. artistic design......cartoony vs. serious....TWILIGHT PRINCESS
2. gameplay....go around in a boat, OR AS A WOLF!?!?!? TWILIGHT PRINCESS

Super Mario Sunshine vs. Super Mario Galaxy
1. difficulty ok........one goes to sunshine
2. Funness.........VITAL for a video game, and Galaxy OWNS sunshine

and besides, everyone know that Gamespot's reviews are NEVER right....or anybody but yourself's for that matter.....

I think Company of Heroes was overated.

I can SEE it's a good game, and I KNOW it's a good game. The thing is, it just doesn't appeal to me. I normally love RTS's and WWII era games, but the two together just do not excite me. Maybe it's just me, but I think it could be a lot more entertaining.

You know though, Bob's fro still stands proud up there. Nobody, including it's intended target, seems to have been bothered enough by it to report it or anything.

I have a better version. :smug:

But I won't post it for fear of getting banned. :p

Is extreme language excusable if I put it in spolier tags?

I'll start. I know its already been said, but WoW has to be the most overrated game I have seen. It's like the Paris Hilton of video games. Everyone likes it cuz its famous. It's famous because Blizzard promotes its numbers as fame. I truly wish I understood how it caught on so fast. Provided it has never offered anything really original to MMOs. I think advertising budget made the difference if I had to guess though.

EDIT: Isnt it the most expensive MMO release at like 50-60m?

Moderator Action: Lads, this thread has been cleaned up. I actually should've sowed a bag full of infraction points, but I'll let it pass now. But for crying out loud, use the "report post" button if you think someone is breaking the line. I can't (and don't want to) read as much as a lot of you do.

Now I do realise that some people get irritated by what they think are silly remarks. May I please remind you that there's an option to ignore posters. That saves you, me and him a lot of hassle.

I think Matrix is way overrated:p

But seriously, I would also like to add Mass Effect to my list, it was a great game, however it was not the gleeful FPS/RPG revolution that it was claimed to be, it was very bi-polar actually. The good bits were really good, but the bad bits were horrendous.

I didn't find Mass Effect that great. I got it for Christmas last year and completed a playthrough soon after. It seemed to be like it could be like any sci-fi story (probably because they wanted it to be like 80s sci-fi), I didn't like how planet and system exploration worked, and the upgrade system was more overly complicated than it should be.

I thought it was pretty much an FPS with some RPG tidbits, but not enough to actually make it an RPG in any real since of the word.

I am beginning to think GTA 4 is actually overrated. (Really I think GTA series is overrated in general though) The minigames like bowling, pool etc. suck. The driving has actually gotten worse in 4 though... in a game called Grand Theft Auto. The physics engine is not that great (although it isnt exactly terrible either), the new friends system is just downright annoying. They had alot of ideas introduced that have some real good potential about them but they all kind of suck a little at the expense of each other.

The GTA series is fun though, its just I don't find myself playing it nearly as long as other games I own and even when I do play I tend to get bored after a few missions and usually resort to driving drunk or going on a rampage to stay entertained for a few more minutes before I just turn it off and put in a different game.

Neither did I, not to knock on the people who play them, but I think most of there appeal comes from the controversy surrounding them, rather than the quality of the games themselves, but that's just me belittling the fan base.

I played GTA 1&2 a lot, they were fun. But when i played 3, the missions were incredibly boring, so i thought that killing random people on the street was gonna be fun. And it was(for 1-2 days), with weapons. But then i tried running over 3 people with a huge truck after gathering speed on the freeway. It was like hitting a brick wall. And i remember speeding on the sidewalk in gta2 and running over tens of pedestrians and elvi while listening to their screams.
How is this part in GTA4 ?

Somebody who thinks GTAIII was worse than I and II should be left to die on the street.

I know it's been said already, but The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time probably isn't the best Zelda game; A Link to the Past is. Now I just need to get Wi-Fi access so that I can actually play OoT. One could even argue that Majora's Mask is a little better.

Spoiler :
When Shigeru Miyamoto was a boy, he would explore the hills and caves around his home in Sonebe, Japan. The Legend of Zelda was Miyamoto's first attempt to bring the feelings of exploration, excitement, and danger he felt as he explored the world in his youth to a video game. Zelda's action/RPG style succeeded in doing exactly that. While players faced the numerous dangers of the land of Hyrule, they also had plenty of puzzles to solve, dungeons to conquer, and hidden secrets to find which would test the limit of their problem solving skills. Every time players ventured from the beaten path, new items, power ups, and more menacing enemies waited to be discovered. Then, just when players thought they had finally found it all, and saved Hyrule from the evil Ganon, they found themselves thrown into a more difficult remixed version of the same world.

While The Legend of Zelda was one of the most innovative and enjoyable games ever made, fans were far from satisfied from it's sequel, The Adventures of Link. So, when bringing the series to the shining new world of 16-bit gaming, Nintendo opted to return to the series' roots. A Link to the Past is The Legend of Zelda on steroids, with more items, dungeons, and enemies than would have ever been possible in the 8-bit generation. Link's 16-bit outing is still considered one of the finest games ever crafted, and serves as a poster boy for what many consider to be the golden age of gaming.

Ocarina of Time is Miyamoto's Citizen Kane. The game encompasses everything that is unique to video games as an art form and takes players along for the ride. Creative level design, massive bosses, an epic story encompassing over forty hours of gameplay, action, adventure, these are what video games are made of, and Ocarina of Time has it all. The game also features a highly innovative "Z-Targeting" system which allows players to target an enemy, always keeping it within their view, to attack and dodge with ease. A similar system has since been implemented in such games as Shadowman, Eternal Darkness, and Metroid Prime, and will most likely see even more use in the future. This highly imaginative and innovative game is absolutely timeless, and will still be considered one of gaming's greatest creations for many years to come.

Also, try to be a little more tactful (i.e. no "left to die on the street") and try to be a bit more reserved with opinions on games you haven't played yet. It's that stuff that annoys so many people here.

Well, excuse me for not caring about flashy graphics.

GTAIII was not about flashy graphics; I've seen some screenshots with blocky looking trees, people, etc.

Spoiler :
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. This is what Rockstar's third installment in the Grand Theft Auto series teaches us. After two abysmal predecessors, which involved little more than violence for the sake of having violence, Rockstar finally got it right. Taking place in a massive living city, Grand Theft Auto III's open-ended gameplay and mission-based structure turned more than a few heads when it was released late in 2001. The game gives players an entire city as their playground, with missions and secret items hidden behind every corner. This game is proof positive that not only does crime pay, but it's one hell of a lot of fun.

Most games trying to earn your parents' disapproval are too busy being bad to be much good, but Grand Theft Auto III only got better as your moral compass headed further south.

Sure, you could go rescue clueless pink princesses ad nauseum if that buttered your bread... or you could jack some chump's ride, driveby your rivals, and give Johnny Law the greasy slip... and that was just for starters. GTA III moved Rockstar's controversial thug simulator from 2D top-down to 3D in-your-face, and if the results weren't exactly pretty, they were still pretty damn impressive. The scale of Liberty City boggled the mind, and it let you do whatever you wanted. Get payback on your backstabbing psycho ex-girlfriend. Recreate Death Race 2000 in your mafiamobile. Earn honest money in a stolen taxi. Chill to the radio beat. It went on and on.

Grand Theft Auto III advanced non-linear gameplay to a place where you could enjoy the hell out of a game without progressing the story, fulfilling missions, or basically doing anything any normal game would demand of you. That's our kind of crime.

The missions in 4 are pretty good. (I skipped San Andraes for the most part) I have played all the others that came out on main consoles/PC.

The shooting/killing people (Basic terrorizing) is better than any of the previous versions I have played. Especially if you turn off auto aim. (Although with auto aim turned off your gun always points to wherever Niko is looking instead of wherever the center of the camera is if that makes sense. I find it minorly annoying and worth mentioning here but nothing to get worked up about.)

Running over people is pretty accurate I would guess. It does not slow you down much. You would have to hit a group of about 20-30 people all huddling in front of your car in order to be considerably slowed as you mentioned.

A very neat idea came in with the ability to lose the cops by simply placing distance between you and them (good driving skills). Each cop car has a small radius that if you escape for ~5 secs. "We lost him". At 3 stars, a helicopter comes in, and it has a huge radius and is hard to escape. Although its possible. I havent managed 4 or 5 stars yet.

Heck actually slamming into street light posts doesnt slow you down much. (Although it slows you down noticably more than a pedestrian.) Side swiping a car will almost flip them over on their tops. (Cars weigh like 1/10 of what they should on here.)

Oh, love this feature. It's just like in Driver.

These 3 features makes it sound intresting - there might be hope for gta4 in my book afterall. I'll try it someday. :)

If you want a feature to sure fire sell you, you can now choose how to complete missions. For instance me and a friend have been playing 2 seperate games on it. I noticed you could choose not to kill people in missions but thought nothing of it. (Me and him were just talking about this system like 5 mins ago. He is playing now.)

Anyways he mentioned a mission that some dude in prison finds out his chick is cheating on him. your mision is to go kill her and "the other guy" however you can choose not to kill her, and she will show back up later in the story if you let her live. From my experience there are quite a few missions in the game like this. I am currently planning on testing out a few of the ones I think might be possible in the beginning. (I usually kill everything. Just doin my job. :D)

EDIT: Today we found out cops can't 'see' you drive into a pay n spray or it won't work. Although being in the radius doesn't matter.
In the end I would give GTA a good score if you really like the GTA series or racing games. If neither of those two float you boat, I would rank it a 7.5 maybe 8 tops. If you don't like those 2 genres much, the adventure/rpg-ish aspect in it is still not familiar enough and crude at best. But it does have a decent story so far and great dialogue. (If you look at it from that angle.) I personally like all aboved mentioned game genres.

You can escape 4 and 5 stars as well, it's just really, really freaking hard. There's a mission where you have to get out of 3 stars from Manhattan, and I think that's hard, but maybe that's just me. Last night, I had a 30 minute chase (RL time) to try and escape the pigs, but I still couldn't do it and I eventually just turned it off.
