MTCSG-01: Immac's Muti-Threaded Concurrent Succession Game -01

The staff x-mas party is usually a great time too; did someone knock over a table full of food in a drunken attempt at dance at YOUR x-mas party?
:xmascheers:

Hey, were you at my office party?

Lucky enough that our Xmas party was a cruise around Sydney Harbour. Ain't nothin' better :goodjob:

Yeah, that does sound really nice. Good music, nice water, tasty food, pretty women in evening dresses. Sounds like the stage for a James Bond shoot 'em up.

I understand people are busy with christmas and family so there is no pressure to play quickly or anything, but i will just post who's turn it is, so we don't forget over this extended play period.

Frankcor
Remconius
Llamacat
Kanga DU

We got Frankcor in and Remconius says his is coming up. So... Rem can finish up and Llamacat and Kanga DU can play (wait for the hang-overs to wear off first maybe gentlemen...) when they get a chance.

Might get to play before I go away for a few days, otherwise it's gonna be a few days after xmas.

Sorry guys, wasnt able to play before X-mas.

I checked out the saves...

Pigs had the best developed science tree, the highest science rate and was at war killing off GK. I felt like war after these peaceful days... so I went for Pigs

Spoiler :

Pigs started the war with GK. I continued...
My first turn I optimized for production and units.

Got a scientist quite soon which I used for academy in Santander.

I captured Karakorum in 1580 and New Sarai in 1595. I then signed a crappy peace deal to take a breather and heal/reinforce the attack.

The peace time I spent building units, bank, courthouses, etc.

I massed a force (~30 cannon/conquistadors/grenadiers) outside GK remaining 3 major cities. Also lucky break, GK built a settler on our western island and moved out two units for escort, leaving only 2 for defense.

On my last turn I was finally able to re-declare. GK has LBM and we are coming with cannons. He should be dead within 10 turns.

Check out the increase in power rating:

This is the lay of the land. You can see GK last remaining cities. Main stack is south of Turfan. Other city has 4 units outside.

Go ahead kill off GK and continue building power or science...

.

The save

Looking good.

Frankcor (we got a game in)
Remconius (we got a game in)
Llamacat (haven't heard from him in a long time- hopefully had a great christmas)
Kanga DU (should have a game up in near future)

:bump:

Llamacat and Kanga DU:
If you get a chance, could you please post to say when we can expect your games?

My apologies, RL has been a preoccupation. Will endeavour to have a game post up tonight.

Spoiler :

Went with Immac's save, much the save reasons as Frankcor. Mansu doesn't have gunpowder yet... looking to get conquistadors and frigates. I'll go in with conquist's and pillage around a bit, then look to use CRIII grens (from our maces) to pinch a city or two. Sounds good on paper eh? Reality is I sort of stumbled along, researched replaceable parts before going for steel. Might of been a bit of a :smoke: move that. Oh well next person inherited a war. :p We are up plenty of frigs on Mansu, so should be able to make inroads at least on all those tempting coastal cities. He's got a SOD in Dijenne (i think), that'd be the best city to capture too.

Note there are some troop movements back and forth still happening. (ie Watch out for multi turn moves!) Need to ferry a few maces back, upgrade and rejoin the fray. Mansu has just got gunpowder, a is a little off rifles yet.

Looks good Kanga DU.

Has anyone heard from Llamacat at all recently? Is he active in any other threads?

I've PMed Llamacat and no response and no one has mentioned seeing him around so we will proceed without him.

This thread has slowed down a bit over christmas but it would be nice to get it back in shape now that we are all recovered.

Unfortunately, with the disappearance of LC, B-team players only have three threads to choose from.

Kanga DU

Remconius

Frankcor

Up now:

  • Pholk
  • Pigswill
  • Ozbenno
  • Immaculate

how can i choose without a "Frankcor" chart (TM)?

i, too, will DL, choose and play tomorrow.

I didn't wait for frankcor's marvellous chart (which contains one minor error, in round 6 remconius played from pigswill not pholkhero) but played 20 turns from remconius's save up to 1750 keeping the remswill duopoly going.
I'll post the write-up in a day or so.

1650-1750
I decided to play from the Remconius/Pigswill line of saves to broaden my horizons and try something new.

Spoiler :

When I opened the save, I found that the empire was very unhappy. Two civilizations (the Malinese and the Chinese) seem to have run-away technologically. Not only that, but they have adopted emancipation, a civic based on a technology we are very distant from. We also have war weariness in the extreme. So, to at least combat one of these problems, I will try to do as suggested and finish up the war against Genghis as soon as possible.

I just look around the empire and eventually push enter. The cities don’t seem to be as highly specialized as in the other line of saves. More cities are what I would consider ‘hybrid-oriented’ meaning they have a mix of cottages and hammer-producing tiles with the food to support them instead of just hammers or cottages. I could be mistaken, but that is my impression. Typically, unless a city is specified as a hybrid city, I tend to specialize my cities a wee bit more then these are. This is a matter of personal taste however, as some swear by unspecialised cities completely and I am sure most players fall somewhere in the continuum. But, a city with an academy should get a cottage over a watermill every day of the week. I left it as it was, but I am not sure about that tile usage. I hope this doesn't seem like a criticism; its meant more as a comparaison. I'll point out, however, that this thread appears to be producing much more commerce either way so maybe i am wrong :p

In 1690, we defeat the Mongolians once and for all.

I think I only lost 1 or 2 cannons in the entire mopping-up operation. I immediately assume some peace-time civics and continue building up our economy. If this were the other thread-line, I would be building power, but in this thread-line, we have specialized towards economy and I will continue that.

Research-wise, we completed replaceable parts and started on biology.

Economy: The forbidden palace is being built in Turfan (14 turns) and should help matters somewhat.

Great People: St. Patrick is born in Madrid and produces the Buddhist shrine.

New Cities: Salamanca is founded on the site of the last Mongolian city to be destroyed (see above screenshot). A second settler is on its way to the ice-block in the north-east. A galley is on its way to rendezvous with it and make sure it can get there.

All-in-all, once the Mongols were defeated, I just put in infrastructure and quietly built up. The other civs are a bit more advanced then us and won’t trade because we have nothing to offer, or, alternatively, are angry with us for trading with their enemy.

Here is the save.

Spoiler :

Well my last effort in this game was abjectly poor, so I was keen to do better :). I spent some time studying the three saves and I went with Frankor's save as I think it is the best one to stop Mansu. The only question is how?

Our economy isn't in great shape and we can't really take any of his cities without cannons, even though his wine industry is dead . So when the peace offer is this, I take it. After pillaging with impunity of course.

We'll be back after Steel (which I have swapped research to).

We then start building infrastructure. Civics are swapped to slavery, universal sufferage, free religion and free market.

We pop a Merchant in Madrid. He is sent to China for a trade mission.

Steel is in and we complete Rifling and then Steam Power (we have one source of coal). My trade mission cash runs out after this and we pick Nationalism.

The people are unhappy, so the cannons are whipped into being.

Got nothing for the workers to do, so just leave them hanging about.

War is redeclared and a serious stack is landed next to Timbucktu.

The attack on Timbucktu commences, with 2 cannons dying but we take the city :).

It has Spiral Minaret and Notre Dame inside

A second stack is landed next to Djenne.

Nationalism comes in and I pick Constitution (to head for Assembly Line).

Well I may have gone overboard on the cannons as we now have 19 of them (and I also lost 2 taking Timbucktu) Might need some rifles and grens to support.

A third stack is nearly ready in the homeland (mainly cannons) ready to join in where required. The assembly point is just east of Beshbalik

We have a Steel monopoly still so make the most of it. We may want to trade it to Qin for Corporation (if he has it).

We have some unhappiness so some Jails after Constitution might be a good idea.

Overall, I'm happy with the way things are. I think we have the power now to take over Mansu and head for a Domination victory.
