[MULT] Pitboss Worldbuilding Challenge

I went into the PerfectWorld3 code. It seems to generate better (but slower) worlds when I generate them in-game. I have NO idea what I am doing.

Has this started yet? I'm a little concerned about how much time it would take to do write ups 1 turn at a time, with everyone playing, and I've never done an MP game before. Still, if you haven't started, this does seem like a good way to feed my civ addiction without spending too much time per day on it.

If you have started, it's all right, but if you haven't, could I join in here?

Gladly join if you're up for the writing/worldbuilding challenge (I recognize you from somewhere...did you play Minecraft? Role play servers?). I'm still working out the kinks of even the map generation.
As noted before, a half-hour a day should cut it, by the end of an era you should have pages upon pages, describing everything from their holy rituals to border town names. I mean, if you want to. But you should. Wanna be our Seventh Muskateer?

Truth be told, I think I like the distribution on the map with Abundant resources better. Landform-wise, though, I don't think any work is needed. So if you're willing to generate another map, I say do it.
Incidentally, I used to play Minecraft a fair bit too (until I found Civ, actually)...in idle curiosity, what servers did you frequent?

You only like the resources becaus'a bazaars! *shakes fist in rage*
I'll generate about seven PF3 Worlds, then fix the natural wonders, balance them, then ship 'em out. But tomorrow. Or day after.

I was the Roleplay King. All MC servers die, and I've been on every server throughout it's short life. Fallout RP, Assassin's Creep, Gazamo and the phoneix of A'therys, Skyrim RP, various high fantasy servers, oc.tc (overcast), Shadow-arrow or whatever (Shotbow! That's what it is!), others. I've been everywhere. I have done SO many whitelisting applications for RP servers I knew them by memory. All my dozens of rogue-style characters. Good times. I used to recognize all the big players years ago, the server-kings. I'd always get myself wrapped up in their conspiracies and plans. They would always die, fall off the face of the forums and shrivel into their bedrooms and middle-school study-halls before emerging months later, protesting for us to join their new Minecraft venture. And then that would die.

I've been active on these forums quite a bit recently (since last summer), but no minecraft. I do have a lot of accounts with the name redwings1340 though. Maybe something pony related? If not that, then I have no idea. And sure, I'll join. Lets do this!

Woo! The great leader Redwings has warped in from Vienna! This is going to be a very good game.

Curses! You have seen through my evil plot!
Incidentally, have you ever consider the benefits of owning a really fine set of encyclopedias Persian carpet? Now this one I have here is on sale for a very reasonable price and is 100% not made from stuff stolen from Heerlo's empire...

Well I'll probably have a timer for 48 hours (just in case someone can't get a turn in one day), but everyone should try to get in a turn (and then write the history, development of culture, etc.) every day. This process should take a half-hour at most, possibly including the time interacting with neighboring civs (there should definitely be some nice cultural diffusion going on). So if you want to join, be prepared to take around a half-hour each day to play with us. And be sure to worldbuild real nice-like.

Could you manage?

yep. i am sticking with shoshone(renamed shebland for this). i will try sticking to 1 turn per day at least, more if im lucky.

edit: forget to add that i have to change my email for steam first.

Your Rock-Paper-Scissors attempt was so hilarious I have to register and tell you guys go to random.org

Thank you

Also, I can imagine that there are times when, say, if I'm building a wonder, I may not want to tell other civs what I'm doing in my cities, as they may use a great engineer to finish that wonder or prepare for my military buildup. How should we deal with these dark patches of information/top secret stuff?

Edit: Oooooo, maybe people could write up a 'top secret files' that they can release at any time, which basically points out at their discression what they're doing behind the scenes? If a spy successfully steals tech from another civ, they can ask for that top secret info too (and if the spy is discovered, that civ/player automatically gets these write ups to do what they want with).

Here's "abundant" for comparison:

i vote normal resource distrubitation.

How com you want to play with me?

its always been a dream of mine to play with famous civ players. espically quill18. your famous here so it counts for me.

so what do we do about victory modes? i dont really intend to win(just want to have fun writing the story),but i am just curious about what you plan to do about it.

Abundant resource distribution might make the cities a bit more productive and the game a little bit faster. Still, I'd be fine either way though.

you may be the traveller, but i am the one who knocks(dont worry though, unless if you do something really annoying i generally wont go knocking)

or is it? :hmm:

so once we figure want we want we start the game? can we have tilted axis with large contitents? or did we pick a map type already?

I've created a Google Doc so we can start keeping track of things as they develop. So far, all that's on there is the players and civs chosen. I've given sillsworth access to edit, and anyone with the link can view and comment.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nkhNWOdrG0adZ_c2gZwEVE0rapIcG9t4piPz45xXneU/edit?usp=sharing

9 players so far: sillsworth, cpm4001, Heerlo, Arexander, 42istheanswer, sh3baproject, redwings1340, GeoffreyY, and me (let me know if you want to be added or removed from the list)

Civs claimed so far: Spain, Arabia, Persia, Rome, Iroquois, Shoshone, Venice, and Portugal

sillsworth, you might want to link the Google Doc on the first post of this thread so it's easier to find.

This is gonna be great. Cheers.

Let's not name anything proper until the end of the ancient era. "Shebland" might work for a steppe-like river village, but a village in a citrus-rich jungle might go by a totally different name.
Sh3ba, how good are you at writing/worldbuilding?

So you're only joining because of a failed RPS attempt? If you're not joining so that you can write and worldbuild, you might want to alter your decision to a more humor-based thread/server. If you're actually considering joining, could I have more information about your writing/worldbuilding, and what you're planning to do when the game starts?

i have done this before, but not on this website. i am decent at writing and worldbuilding so dont worry.

as for the name i am sticking with the name unless if i dont get hills or plains. but then again i think the shoshone have a plain bias. is that right or wrong?

What civs have been taken so far? I'll be Portugal if nobody has taken that.

Good to have you in, Redwings!

Well hey, I'm no better than anybody else. :)

so what do we do about victory modes? i dont really intend to win(just want to have fun writing the story),but i am just curious about what you plan to do about it.

I'm not gonna focus on winning either. One time on a normal multiplayer game, me and my brother could not continue because an AI won a victory condition. So, if there's any interest in going way into the future era, then we might want to turn off victories.

Incidentally, have you ever consider the benefits of owning a really fine set of encyclopedias Persian carpet? Now this one I have here is on sale for a very reasonable price and is 100% not made from stuff stolen from Heerlo's empire...

Hey, I thought you said you were "extremely peaceful"! :nono:

About the map, I would probably vote for normal resources as well, but is that really going to be normal on this kind of map? sillsworth, if you want me to, I could generate some maps with some stock map scripts in the world builder with normal resources and see how it compares to normal on these maps.

I was actually going to suggest we disable all victory conditions (except for maybe Culture?) That would make the game much more fun.

I am extremely peaceful. That's why I said the rug was made with 100% not made with stuff stolen from you (it's a Persian rug, and you'll be playing the Persian Empire, and...that joke fell completely flat.) Also, I should note that even though I play Emperor on singleplayer, I do that solely because the lack of AI expansion on lower difficulties was driving me nuts (I like huge maps, and I hated the look of all that unclaimed space!)
In regards the maps, to me the resource distribution on "normal" looks more like "scarce". Not sure why that'd be the case, but if you want to try generating a few other maps to test the distribution feel free.
