Summary
The world's nations have just elected the first non-mercantile General Secretary of the Union. The Big Five continue to hold great sway, but their clout and influence has sharply declined in the last few decades; they are now a member of a group of major powers, and not THE major powers.
While there has been some rancor over the Papacy's loss to Tropico, the world overall remains peaceful and devoid of serious tension. Will that change?
Events
The New Zealander economy has slowed due to a massive blockade by the Namibians. Whether the government will approve of a forceful end to the blockade or a peaceful one remains to be seen. The blockade is 5 fleets strong.
A crop failure has killed thousands in Romnesia.
Low tax rates have spurred investment in Algeria.
Piracy has wiped out the Amazonian trade fleet. The Australian trade fleet has lost most of its men as well. There are an estimated 50 pirate fleets in operation; while poorly trained, they are horrific enemies to any traders.
The Pirate Confederacy offers a deal to the nations of the world: they may pay an amount equal to 10% of their trade vulnerability to guarantee no attacks, or they may alternatively pay the ships (at a rate of 1 gold per vessel) to attack enemies. The Confederacy states that it will only attack defenseless ships.
Unrest
In Malaysia, Singaporean workers have disrupted a shipment of energy.
A coup in Germany has put in a new provisional government. Most of the new government have ties to Drek, Inc. President Ratchet Veldin has fled. Chairman Drek has sworn allegiance to the Polish government. However, a Civil War to restore the Veldin administration has broken out.
A coup has overthrown Premier Rainbow Blitz of Somalia with Supreme Warlock Discord. As Lord Discord's first order, all regulations are abolished. Except for Set Your Hair on Fire Sunday. Pro-Cascadia. Civil War has erupted.
A coup has overthrown Klonoa of Nordeste. Lord Ghadius has taken power, swearing to bring nightmares to all sentient beings. Pro-Independence.
A coup has overthrown Gentarou of Vietnam. General Rangetsu has taken power. Pro-Ottomans. Civil War.

The Holy See condemns the rampant aggression of the Namibian regime, and its blockade of New Zealand and urges Namibia to cease its aggression and return to the road of peace. The Holy See would also urge Namibia to discard its reactionary and outdated ideology, which we suppose is contributory to the current aggressions.
The Holy See also condemns the groundless and unjust attack by Malaysia on Singapore, and urges an end to the conflict there preferably by peaceful means that ensures coexistence between both nations is possible.
