Over the years since its creation the United Nations protectorate in Northern Italy and the Balkans has become increasingly cosmopolitan , especially in its military ruling class. Seeing as the government is completely comprised of military personal who serve in the peacekeeping corps it is mostly compromised of non-Balkan citizens with the majority being Italian, Spanish, French or British. This has created an ethnic melting pot in the capital of Venice as bureaucrats and military personal make up a significant proportion of the population. Less than 50% are native Italians and less than 40% are native Venetians. French and English are now as commonly spoken as Italian. This is not to say however that the majority of the population of Venice is in the employ of the UN though. Only 20% of residents are employed by the UN's Bureaucratic or Peacekeeping presences at the city however many other the other people came as a result of the influx of UN personnel; families, shopkeepers and other such hangers on accompanied the massive foreign migrations leading to Venice's unique cultural mix.

Infrastructure has been redeveloped to cope with the new development and many of the old buildings have been reinforced with bracing inside the walls. The foundations of the city have also been reinforced with alloy bracing to stop the city from slumping into the sea. Many old buildings such as the Doge's Palace were requisitioned by the Peacekeepers during the Sarajevan War and now they have remain the hubs of the bureaucracy and leadership. The Doge's palace is the meeting place of the General's Council and also serves as the military headquarters for the continuing peacekeeping operations in Ex-Sarajevan Territories.

This is sadly a Necessity as despite the growth peace and stability of Northern Italy the Balkans remain a war-zone with the rival Warlord gangs still posing significant threat to law and order. This is the main reason for continued UN involvement. The area is still too unstable to become self ruling and much policing is necessary in these parts.

I am afraid you misunderstand our intentions. We would not be selling our slaves if we were not attempting to eventually become slave free. The only reason we have slaves in the first place is because of an assassination attempt, a vast conspiracy, and public opinion. Now let us be clear: We have the right to do so as a Nation without being bullied by you.

However the decision had been made before your threats to rid ourselves of slaves. We have no intentions of enslaving more people, however you must understand that even if we agree not to purchase slaves or create slaves again, we cannot speak for future generations decades down the road. We are sorry, but we are a democracy, and that is how things work in a democracy.

To give a brief history lesson to cover this topic.

The Socialist Republic of Sarajevo was a long standing nation led my the undying and insane Prime-Minister Gavrilo Gavrilovich. The nation was ruled from the massive metropolis of Sarajevo a city which had no equal in size or population, a city the likes of which might never be seen again. The city was divided into several tiers, literal tiers with each layer being built on top of the last one. The pinnacles of Sarajevo stretched into the sky. The tiers also represented quite large social divides. Ground level was squalid and poor it also had an ubiquitous culture of crime. In the upper levels thing became increasingly bureaucratic with the highest levels being the important offices of the government.

One day contact was lost with the upper two levels... The resulting chaos of an Empire that suddenly lost its government was devastating.

The Resulting war between various criminal warlords was not pretty. After the start of the war it became quickly evident that it was no clean matter, the warlords came from all different backgrounds and ethnicities and it soon turned to a bloodbath of ethnic cleansing and genocide. This is when the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces intervened. Their initial Headquarters was Venice which had been the secondary capital of the SRS at its height.

Following many years of war and still no true dislodging of the Warlords it became clear that a unified government was needed to replace the old one that had by this point near completely crumbled. As there was no local authority in the Ex-Sarajevan territories to take over and no real cultural unity apart from the shared history of Sarajevan rule the United Nations decided that it would need to create a transitional government. This was the Bosnian Compromise, a UN resolution for the establishment of a United Nations protectorate in the Ex-Sarajevan territories. This government was initial known as the Bosnian Compromise but later was renamed the United Nations Ex-Sarajevan Protectorate and then again later to the United Nations Protectorate of the Bosnian Compromise.

The City of Sarajevo was destroyed in a siege in 2188 and so the obvious center for this new government was the secondary capital of the Sarajevan Socialist Republic in Venice.

This is why the capital is in Venice ans the name shortening is to Bosnia. And it is far from "basically Venice"
