From what I understand the original treaty did include a semi-economic wing to it. It definitely wasn't a full alliance so that part is fine.

It still was rather vague and up in the air when we formed it in order to defeat Cape. Then after we won Nuke had to leave for a bit and I really haven't had the time to dedicate to this game due to preparing for a new marriage in the family.

From an OOC perspective, to secure their grip on those areas.

From an IC perspective, so those nations may secure their grip on those nations' markets. Kind of like how every European (and later American and Japanese) Empire did so via high tariffs and other mercantilist measures.

Colonial powers wanted colonies so they had raw materials for goods as well as to secure areas they could sell those same goods to. To secure this end, they instituted all sorts of trade barriers to keep outsiders out. British colonies could only buy from and sell to Britain, had to use British ships, etc.

1. The Confederate Sates of America (hereby reffered to as the CSA), will lower their tarriffs on Illumination trade 5%, and the Illumination shall do the same for Confederate trade. Moreover, the CSA agrees to sell computer parts to the the Illumination in return for grain. This, too, will be taxed at the current tariff rate. Furthermore, the Illumination and the CSA agree to mirror the other's embargoes, severing trade with any country the other does.

2. The two governments shall enter into a defensive alliance, coming to the other's military aid when ever they are attacked.

3. The CSA agrees to never attack the Ilumination, and the Illumination likewise will never invade the CSA, for the duration of this pact.

4. This pact shall last for ten years, at which time it will come up fr renewal. If both countries agree to cease the agreement during any of those ten years, it shall be ended.
