We're holding so far but got notting to counter attack with. Iron road wil be done in 4 then change Camu to GS, and connect road to network. After that we probably should build safe route towards Veru.
The Otto warriors have been comming over the dessert, the iro archers from Tonawanda.

If we manage to get iron connected fast and churn out some GS, we should be fine for now.

Excellent work so far. Roads and GS are priorities now. From nerovats's report, I see no attacks on Verulamium, which is good. Maybe change the walls build there to something else, and build walls in Camu? Tonawanda is well placed (for us to attack and raze).

Where are we going to put our next town?
  • NE-N-N of Entremont will take some worker turns to be productive, and it will be on the front.
  • SW-SW-W of Lugdunum is a nice site, but we'll probably pop some barbs who'll pillage if we can't take care of them.
  • NW-W-W of Richborough is far away, and will strain for growth a bit...
Other suggestions? After some consideration, the first option looks best to me.

Where and when are we starting a prebuild for the GL?

if we want to start a prebuild we have to time it right. I guess we are going for maths in around 10, then writing in say 15-20, then literature the same. The palace will grow in shields but I think we should only start after the next turnset with a prebuild

Half finished my turnset as it was late last night.
Ottos now come with Horses, this is not funny as we just started our active military.
Will finish late tonight.

Checking situation:
Walls in Verul seem reasonable as the city is exposed and not connected.
We need more workers.

(0) Some troop shuffling, spears towards frontline, warrior back as MP.

IT: Iro archer and warrior outside of Verul and 2 archer outside Camul.
Ottos send a spear/warrior pair, a second warrior wowards Alesia and a warrior and
2 horses towards Richborough. They threaten all 4 front-line cities.

(1) Move additional spear to Camul and Richborough and I have to change Richb wo walls,
this will be close.

IT: Iro archer dies at Camulodunum, promoting our spear to elite. (1-0)
Richborough and Alesia get both threatened by Otto horsemen

(2) Shuffle some spears

IT: Iro warrior dies at Camul.
Lose a spear to a horse at Richb. We better get active military soon.
The other horse retreats at Alesia. (2-1)

(3) Kill of both redlined horses. (4-1)
Iron connected next turn, but road to the rest of the empire still missing.

IT: exposed warrior is lost to a Otto warrior (4-2)

(4) Beginn last misssing road for connecting iron.
Prebuilds for gallics start in several cities.

IT: Iro archer dies at camul (5-2)
3 remaining Iro units outside of Camul of the city
Ottos between Alesia and Richb

(5) I have to retreat the worker outside of Richb.
4 Otto units (horse, spear and 2 warriors approach the city

IT: Iros come with additional archers.

(6) Protect Iron-roaders, we still have no active military.
Found Gergovia on spot suggested by Mumpulus as it is really the only save place now.

IT: Both Otto warriors die at Richb. (7-2)
The horse doesn't attack, strange. Instead, it waits for a second horse from the south.

(7) Our brave warrior retreats one horse.

IT: The Zulus finish Colossus. Math comes in, going for Writing.
Our brave elite warrior defeats one Otto horse on defense and the second retreats,
sometimes it is better to be lucky than good,
but the real king is this one: two Iro archer die at Camul and give us Vercingetorix :D (11-2)

Mump2_3.jpg

(8) Form the first army, hopefully soon be filled with gallics,
they take some time to produce.

IT: Iros lose another archer at Camul. (12-2)

(9) We still haven't enough workers, I built one in Lugdunum.
The Iro spear will pillage another road.

IT: and so it goes. The dye road is pillaged. The first 2 gallics comes in.
Otto horse retreats at Richb.
Another Iro dies at Lugdunum and now they are coming with a galley. (13-2)

(10) The first gallic retreats on a spear but the second kills him and we enter our GA. (14-2)

If you like, you can use the warrior to kill of the redlined Otto horse at Richb.
Still only 2 enemies but it was ugly without the ability to attack anything than
redlined units with warriors.
Fill the army as soon as we can and hope we don't meet anybody in the short run.
Our frontline is huge.

Am i up. tenb

excellent turn Mizar :goodjob: without any military you got another city up and defended well, a GS army is just sweet...

cubsfan, I think according to the Roster, it's me who is up... I would play tonight (which is around 12hr from now)

if we want the GL, we have to start a prebuild now and I think it must be a city off the frontline, but able to grow. Richborough looks the most suitable to me, though we still have it at the front. But, once we have sufficient GS we should be able to push back the enemy

I think we must push south and get new towns up quickly to allow us improving our first-ring cities and and establish a save core and road network.
If played well tactically, the Iro archers are no problem but the Otto horses coming out of the fog on a broad front in the south are.

Still a rough ride of course, but I think we will be able to establish a good base now.

@Mizar: How did the Iroquois unit that died the last IT get to Lugdunum? You sure it wasn't dropped off by that ship already? In any case, ThERat will be able to tell from the ship's movement...

I still haven't been able to open up a save (the only opportunity I have right now to follow this game is at work :mischief:), so these suggestions again only based on reports and screenshots:

  • Continue founding towns. I'd take a settler out of Lugdunum too to speed things up (too bad we have to drop pop during our GA, but I think it benefits us more). Settling the other two towns I suggested will not lengthen our front. I'm happy to see there's a spear in Lugdunum now, we can use it to pop the hut (make sure that Iro ship is empty), and have a backup spear in Entremont just in case (don't forget about the river though).
  • Verulamium still hasn't been attacked. If we can build walls in Camulodunum, Iroquois focus may shift to Verulamium, especially if we can increase their traveling time by razing Tonawanda with the army. The army should be used for offense immediately I think, even if that results in a worse kill ratio at home. I estimate the Iroquois core is just east of there (borders in Rat's second screenshot are expanded, so that's probably Salamanca).
  • Following the river SW of Richborough to settle will lengthen our front in theory, but I think initially it will not have much practical consequences. As long as it's just the Ottomans coming in from that area, they'll probably still target only one or two towns. The other alternative is to settle towards the Iroquois. That will not lengthen our front line in any way, but it will lengthen our supply line. If we can raze some Iroquois towns, the lands on the NE coast may be relatively safe (e.g. the BG NE of the top fur is a nice spot for a town).
  • Should we build some cats now? I think we want a few more GS first, but I'd take Richborough and Verulamium off their barracks builds. Richborough seems to be a good prebuild town indeed, Verulamium can start a few cats now, then get back to a barracks as soon as Gergovia can take over with efficient cat builds. I don't think Gergovia will have the shields to build fighting units for some time. Cats and the occasional worker there I think.

Gergovia would be good for more workers etc. Of course, during the GA, shields will be high and we should get some infra and GS up.

I will send out the army once it is full and then pillage/raze towns. This will always help rather than sitting back and defend

On pushing south as suggested by Mizar: with our defenses so thin for now, I'm not sure we can do that. Of course, by the time we fill our back yard, we will have some more troops...

On building infra as suggested by ThERat: with the better survival rate of the GS and lots of defense 1 units still to attack, could it be a good idea to build some regular GSs quickly now, and get a little advantage that way?

save

Pre-Turn
decide to change our build, capital for a GS, Alesia for a settler instead
Verulamium for a cat and Gergovia for a worker
Richborough switched to palace if we ever want to get GL.
send empty army towards Alesia
due to MM able to reduce lux to 20%

IT one Ottoman warrior suicides himself, horse retreats

1.975BC
zzz

IT nothing much here, but we get another GS, insert a worker
Zulu finish Oracle

2.950BC
fill army with 2 GS and defeat 2 Iro archers, need to increase lux to 30% temporary

3. 925BC
the dye road is back again, we get the HE message of course
our first cat is in as well
lux down to 10% now

IT the horse suicides at Alesia
another GS done + an additional settler and worker

4.900BC
defeat a warrior

5.875BC
bomb an archer next to Verulamuim, fill army with 3rd GS and defeat an archer on the way to St.Regis, that has wine
step onto the hut to make way for our settler and get maps
spot that Iro's have a town overseas(?) and another bluish borders there

science down to 30%

IT the archer retreats, we get writing and go for literature, currently due in 9
we get another worker

6.850BC
take out 2 reg spears and take St. Regis, keep it for now

mum875.jpg

IT 3 archers move onto St. Regis, guess we need to abandon it
2 horses appear as well

7.825BC
move army east and pop a hut purposely, it gives barbs which will keep the enemy busy, spot a settler pair that is turned into 2 slaves :)
abandon St. Regis

IT as expected, the fools go after the barbs, one horse redlines a spear in Alesia but dies

8.800BC
found Augustodorum in the corner
rest army next to Centralia

9.775BC
defeat 2 spears and 1 archer, army is yellow but we autoraze town and gain 2 more slaves

IT another horse retreats from Alesia

10.1375AD
defeat that horse with a GS, rest yellow army while 4 slaves move a square home, next turn we should cover them with the army to escort home and then go after Iros again
literature is due in 4, we should then go for horses etc.
I don't really know whether we got any chance for the GL as we have accumulated very few shields
we can always switch to HE if we fail in getting that

our military adviser says we have a strong army compared to Iros and average with Ottoman, not bad

battle tally 14-0
