My idea for a new political compass.

In you opinion, what is the best political compass?

  • The 3-D one(the one shown here)

    Votes: 5 45.5%
  • The 2-D one(www.politicalcompass.org's compass)

    Votes: 6 54.5%
  • The 1-D one(used commonly to describe Democrats to Republicans)

    Votes: 0 0.0%

  • Total voters
    11
I looked at the compass for NationStates but am confised. The personal axis is whether the government should ban stuff like tattoos. The Economic axis is whether they should allow monopolies or own companies. But I don't know what the political axis is. Is that the difference between dictatership and democracy or between "1984"ish police states and anarchy?
In any case there are many dimensions you could ad to classify people. 1D is the easiest 'cause you can simply say "left/right" 2D is much more complex but still can't define everything. Even 3D can be improved. but how much are these new dimensions helping. It's easier to say "I'm a liberal" or "I'm a Republican" but much harder to say "I have a political value of 1.2,6.5,1.43,7.6," without confusing people.

There exists such a system, only it's wired this way:

(less freedom -> more freedom)
xx' - economic
yy' - social
zz' - political

if we include the communist-capitalist axis we'll have a hell of a time representing it ;)

What is meant by the political axis? Is that supposed to be an equivlent of Authoritarian/Libertarian?
