Myth01- Training Day- Regent

Great job Yahya!

Victory
Already said what I want - bloody struggle to be only nation in WORLD.

About conquest victory - nothing is sweeter than it is(exept space race), that's why I play domination off. Sweet to see one civilization to dominate over others.

RIOTS

About riots - I use thing called CivReplay (under that name I downloaded it) MapStat (one program that came with civreplay)- I have to press alt+tab in the end of every turn (or beginning of one) but it shows cities about to riot, things I can trade etc. Helps with riots BIG time, last turnset had 1 riot, in other SG had 0 riots :)

IROS
I'm not worried about iros city, it is small one and we can make "Age of Pirates" around iros small city. I would get this city thru peace deal tho. And I assume we need peace with them soon.

Iro galleys are moving towards Shaka-land = more iro towns. Burn few towns on same turn, then make peace. Ai offers cities for peace deal.

What are people thoughts of moving stack of 4 pirates and 1-2 frigates in same stack ? Frigate hides Pirates and Ai will not attack frigates (unless you are at war). +frigs have bombard ability. I once ended up with 17 pirates, but battleships started tearing them into pieces :(

Just noticed that this thread has 11k Pageviews. It is a long lasting game isn't it

Long lasting game - training game, we ask stupid questions+do mistakes.
Cbob + Lurkers&co do their best to answer them and make war plans, write long stories about one or two turns. But I like these :)

Questions
Now could anyone smarter than I am explain what makes AI afraid? I've personally noticed that AI is more afraid if in "one" turn he gets heavy losses (eg 5 cities or huge troop losses).

Does Ai ever give tech+city for peace?

Do we stay in republic until end of game or try something else (communism?)

lurker's comment: Glad you're back, NW. Hope you had a nice recovery.

Getting some "popheads" or "mood badges" from the download area will also help. I use them in my games so that happy citizens get a green badge, content citizens get a white one and unhappy citizens get a blue one.

Does Ai ever give tech+city for peace?
Yes, but there are certain techs to which it will cling as though its life depends on it. It values Monarchy and Nationalism very highly and generally won't give those up, almost no matter how badly you beat them up. I can't tell you how many times I've reduced a civ to an OCC, but they still won't give up those.

To be honest, I've still never tried communism. With that caveat, the "conventional wisdom" that I've always read around here is that communism works best when you plan for it from the beginning, and lay out the empire accordingly, with room for lots of metros. You have to research optional techs, go through a second anarchy, and if you've optimized your empire for Republic, then you haven't optimized it for communism.

Northen Wolf, back so soon! That's good news.

I will be out of town until next Sunday night, so if you can take the next turnset that would be great.

MapStat will automatically refresh on the screen (no Alt + Tab needed) when I have it pointed to the directory where the game is saved. I have a separate folder for each game I am in and I have gotten into the habit of doing a manual save each turn. When I manually select a save game, MapStat will continue to point to that location. When I create a new save, it will do it's pop-up thingee and reload. It seems to take about 5 seconds for the reload.

@Aabraxan: which popheads do you use? I use Puppeteers; he doesn't have a content smiley, just happy/unhappy.

I might have to switch to those popheads. I have the "halo' colours and they aren't quite as obvious as the smilies.

My first attempt at using a pop head did not work as I did not find all the places I had to change at first try. maybe this time I can get it right

I only changed one file, since I don't play any of the Conquest scenarios. The thread I link to tells how to add them into the scenarios.

Just remember to rename the current file so that you can use it later. Don't delete it. If you discover you don't like the popheads and you've deleted the file, you've got to reinstall the game to get it back the way it was. Not pretty.

Lurker:

Here is what note I have for it:

Inside this archive you'll find the following file to install:

popHeads15x15SmileySimpleConquests.pcx

Copy the file into your Civ 3 \Conquests\Art\Smallheads folder.
(By default: C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Art\SmallHeads )
You will be replacing your popHeads.pcx with the pcx in the zip file so
be sure to back up your original popHeads.pcx so you can revert back to
the original if you want.
Then all you have to do is to change the name of the file
popHeads15x15SmileySimpleConquests.pcx to popHeads.pcx

Since I change everything I can, I have backups of all those files. It's the first thing I did when I got C3C :lol::lol:

I'll be back in about 1 day then I can get save and play first ~4 turns.

I will be out of town until next Monday, so please skip me if my turns come up.

Skip me too, things got bit worser and I'll be away from computer with civ3 this, and following week. I'll be ok tho. I'll try to give my advice and opinions tho.

CBob, is Yahya up?

If we skip both of you, then that will make me up, I think. I can do that, if you guys want, though I played the last set.

We are basically in an expansion phase now, and working toward navigation so we can begin expanding overseas.

lurker's comment: Is ngraner still out there?

I'm back; I still need to download the popheads like I said I would; I'll try to get a strategy post done this evening.

If we drop the luxuries to 0%, only Beijing and Shanghai become cranky and can easily be fixed by hiring a specailist.
Our cash flow goes from -14 gpt to +27.
Increase science to 40%, we still learn Mono in 4, but at +7 gpt. We'll make up the difference later on the last turn of research.

Long Term Goals
Conquer the world.

Mid Range Goals
Build more cities in up north.
Learn Astronomy (Monotheism -> Theology -> Education -> Astronomy)
Learn Navigation after Navigation to get overseas faster (and trade overseas, too).
Otherwise, we need to learn Chemistry, Physics and then learn Magnetism in order to spend the IBT on ocean tiles.
Tech trading and buying may change this plan, however.

Short Range Goals
Trade Invention for Theology?
Build more cities.
Reduce military.
Examine city builds.
Explore with our lone Galley, now just outside Boston.
Build our Forbidden Palace!
Build an embassy in America (50 gold).

I still need to go through the cities and change some build orders and fix the two cranky cities I just created. I plan to do that tomorrow. And maybe get some turns played, also.

Add mid range goal - get more cities above size 6 -eg work on aquad. . This'll improve our cost on military, and we are not going that much anymore, as focus is on expanding (and maybe keeping iros away).
