NBA 2010 Offseason

Oh no, what will the Mavs ever do without Matt Carrol, Erick Dampier, and Eduardo Najera? And all we got was lousy Tyson Chandler and Alex Ajinca! Not excited about the trade, but I guess it isn't that bad.

And Pat Riley must have some mind control powers, my goodness.

My first post here in a while.

It's been an interesting offseason, especially with the Miami heat.

What I think will happen next season, as a result of these offseason moves, is that the following teams will experience a significantly BETTER season:

1. Miami Heat (No brainer, really)
2. Chicago Bulls (They got Carlos Boozer at the cost of ... um ... hm ...)
3. Oklahoma City Thunder (They technically didn't get a big-name guy added to their roster but they're mostly young so I imagine they will improve)
4. New Orleans Hornets (Perhaps it was the injury of Chris Paul, but I felt that they underachieved last season - expect to see Paul help his team to a playoff berth)

These teams will be in a significantly WORSE season:

1. Cleveland Cavaliers (Lost Lebron James, and of course, the East gets more competitive)
2. Toronto Raptors (Lost Chris Bosh, and the East is more competitive)

These teams will have a similar situation to last years:

1. Atlanta Hawks (They basically have a similar core as last year's, but they have to be wary of Joe Johnson's aging in 3-4 years)
2. Dallas Mavericks (Again, they've got a similar core, although if Tyson Chandler and Brendan Haywood prove to be a formidable center duo and Rodrigue Beaubois improves, that could change)
3. Utah Jazz (Okay, they did lose Carlos Boozer, but they are getting Al Jefferson)
4. San Antonio Spurs (Perhap Splitter will help their team, but I think they'll end up with a low playoff seed again)

I left some teams out if I wasn't sure about their situation.

Yeah, I think there are only 5 teams in the east who are pretty much locks to make the playoffs. Orlando, Miami, Boston, Chicago and Atlanta. I expect Toronto, Cleveland and Charlotte to be significantly worse, and I'm not totally sure what Milwaukee's staying power will be. They'll prob make the playoffs.

The thing is, I'm not sure any of the eastern non-qualifiers got much better. New York will be only marginally better (and still won't play any defense). New Jersey couldn't get a veteran signing for a team that won what, 12 games last year? The Pistons, Pacers and 76ers are capped out and couldn't improve. The Wizards have no forwards.

Because of all that, I think its quite possible that Cleveland makes the playoffs again...only they're going to be first round lunch meat for the Magic or Heat, and that is going to postpone the inevitable rebuilding effort...

The Hornets may deal him, since they dont look to be contending in the next two years, and Paul wants to win. The Hornets are still in salary cap hell.

I think the Bucks are on their way up, while the Hawks are on their way down. If I had to guess the final East standings of this minute, it would be:

1. Miami
2. Chicago
3. Orlando
4. Boston
5. Milwaukee
6. Atlanta
7. Charlotte
8. New York

Dominique Jones just owned John Wall. :D

Wall had 21-10 while Jones had 28-4. And Wall's team led from buzzer to buzzer. And then Wall hit 4 clutch free throws. That's not owning, that's playing similar, if not slightly below to Wall in a losing effort.

And Wall was 4 for 19 from the field, while Jones shot 53% from the field.

But he also attacked the basket, getting fouled and getting to the line 15 times, which actually shows something. Anyone can get open shots in Summer League, not anyone can get to the free throw line. And seriously, Wall's team won by him making his teammates better. Dominque Jones played a typical Summer League rookie game, taking a lot of shots for himself and burying the open ones. Nothing special. Then I completely forgot about Wall's 7 boards. That's a game - 21 points, 10 assists, and 7 boards, and then winning the game. And Dominique Jones had a lot of points as a volume shooter against a bunch of rookies, not owning at all. Owning implies leading your team to victory, Jones couldn't even put his team in the lead in a Summer League game.

All I was saying was that he - the 25th pick - performed just as well, if not better, than John Wall - the highly touted number one pick. Are you defending Wall so vigorously because you feel you have to defend your boy playing for the Wizards? I'm a Mavs fan, which is no secret, so I exaggerated when I said he "owned" Wall. The way you defended Wall indicates that you also think LeBron James played an excellent Game 6 in the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Celtics, better than Kevin Garnett or Rajon Rondo. I mean, who really cares about field goal percentage? It's all about points, assists, rebounds, and free throws!

But he didn't perform better. And it was one game on top of that inconvenient truth, we can look at the whole Summer League, in which Wall was second in points and first in assists (while his team went undefeated.) But when you flat out make up something, I'm just going to point out it's false. And then you make up a conclusion from a completely irrelevant game to the discussion. No, I never said anything about LeBron's game 6. The only relevant frame of this discussion is the NBA Summer League game 3 for Dallas and Washington, don't go pulling other games and then making my conclusions for me. It's a disgusting tactic to make up stuff for me. I mean, c'mon.

You're not guilty of it?

Whatever, there is no point in arguing one biased fan against another. We can agree to disagree.
