(0) 1650 AD: Go ahead and up Culture to 10%, we're still making a decent profit. Lots of Rifles are being built, which is fine with me.
(1) 1655 AD: Karakorum Rifle>Cat, Bombay Missionary>Rifle, Beshbalik Theatre>Forge, We Love the King in Karakorum.
Cordoba falls with the loss of one Knight. I think long and hard about whether to raze it (its location sucks) but keep it anyway.
4 Rifles, 3 Knights, and 3 Cats will ship out from Barcelona to Madrid next turn.
(2) 1660 AD: Karakorum Cat>Rifle. Napoleon is the first to Liberalism. The Spanish send a fierce Mace to menace our Cordoba stacks
(3) 1665 AD: Napoleon and Caesar are at war again, otherwise just moving things. A Knight literally rolls right through the Mace on the way to join the Madrid force.
(4) 1670 AD: Beshbalik Forge>Market, Turfan Rifle>Rifle, Cuzco Rifle>Missionary, Calcutta Rifle>Cat, Delhi Rifle>Rifle. Seville comes online, with a yucky -11 maintenance cost, starts a Theater.
Hmm. Chemistry came in. We are 19 turns away from Cavalry (Music, Philosophy, Nationalism, Mil Trad) and 24 from Railroads (Steam Power, Steel, Railroads). I decide to research Steel (which will also allow us to build Cannons) and trade Printing Press to Incas for Music and Philosophy. We should definitely keep them around for a while. That's the second turnset in a row I've gotten a 250-300 beaker bargain from them.
Barcelona stack is at the gates of Madrid, to be joined by Cordoba stack next turn.
(5) 1675 AD: We fend off two Spanish Cats and an Elephant out of Madrid, at the cost of minor collateral damage.
Most of this will be healed in one turn, and we still need to bombard anyway. They are not as well defended as the long list of units would indicate: 4 Maces, 4 Longbows, 1 Crossbow, 1 Pike. We've got 5 Rifles, 4 Knights, 1 Elephant, and 5 Cats.
Karakorum Rifle>Rifle, Ning Rifle>Granary (it's unhealthy), Old Sarai Rifle>Cat. Barcelona also has a -11 maintenance, also starts Theatre.
Izzy has a Longbow sitting on the Iron, which one of our Rifles swats away with ease. It will pillage next turn if for some reason we don't take the city (defense went from +60% to +21% on this turn).
(6) 1680 AD: Cuzco Missionary>Missionary. War Weariness is up to 9 unhappys.
I screwed up by defecting one of our Rifles away from the stack, leaving us with 9 attackers against 10 defenders. We lose 2 collateral-causing Cats, but nothing else as all 9 win, leaving only a partially wounded Crossbow in Madrid. Oh well. Spain is gone next turn.
(7) 1685 AD:
Bombay Rifle>Missionary, Delhi Rifle>Grocer.
Had been rendezvousing new units in Delhi, divert them to Madras or Seville.
Spanish Cities Assessment:
Barcelona: Has 5 flood plains and sheep (+10 food surplus at size 10!)...generating 3 measly gold. Maybe if we were building wonders/GP factories I'd approve, but not when we need commerce. A swarm of Workers descends on it to change farms to cottages.
Seville: Also farmed beyond belief...however, it actually needs the food. Already has moderate production, so I leave it as is.
Cordoba: How the hell did this ever get to size 8? Not much more than Tundra and Coast...it'll need a Lighthouse as soon as its Courthouse is done.
Madrid: Comes tailor-made with Iron, Sheep, 2 Furs, and 3 full-grown Towns
Check out the Incan Aqueduct--is that a marvel of engineering or what
(8) 1690 AD: Karakorum Rifle>Rifle, Cuzco Missionary>Missionary, Calcutta Cat>Cat, Madras Rifle>Cat. Cordoba online, with the familiar -11 maintenance, starts on Courthouse.
War Weariness gone = no more Culture slider for you. +25 is a lot nicer than -21, eh?
Theatres are almost done in Seville and Barcelona, but I'm going to send the next two Hindu Missionaries to Cordoba and Madrid, so they can get started right away on Courthouses.
(9) 1695 AD: Ning Granary>Cat, Old Sarai Cat>Cat, New Sarai Cat>Cat, Bombay Missionary>Missionary, Seville Theatre>Courthouse.
TURFAN Rifle>JEWISH MISSIONARY. Another two-turn Missionary Factory. We'll get the Jewish shrine in the middle of hiob's turns, and most cities can take three religions, so I strongly suggest keeping Turfan on this. We'll need that money in our next war.
(10) 1700 AD: Cuzco Missionary>Theatre (it won't let me build another Missionary for some reason...), Barcelona Theatre>Courthouse. Caesar gets a Golden Age. Hinduism in Cordoba.
Notes:
Keep Cuzco on Missionaries--Hinduism is our state religion and we don't have it in half our cities. Buddhism, on the other hand, is already in all of our cities and Bombay is only on Missionaries to spread it to Saladin. Turfan looks like a good Jewish Missionary factory.
We get Steel (and Cannons) in 2. Up to hiob where to go next. Rails (Steam Power>Railroads) and Cavalry (Nationalism>Mil Trad) are both 2 techs away.
You can also jump right into war if you want. We have 7 Rifles, 3 Knights, and a Cat in Madras, with more on the way. The Spanish stack (6 Rifles, 3 Knights, 2 Cats) will be finished healing in Barcelona next turn--they can go on to join the Cat in Seville for a two-pronged attack on Persia if desired.
I'll also leave it up to hiob as to who our next target is, if he wants to take Persia or go east. I diverted one of our new world Caravels to scout French and Roman territories, and they look like walkovers (for example, Orleans is size 16 and defended only by 4 Longbows and 1 Pike--in wartime with Caesar). But I figure we've said all that's going to be said about those two options, and I'm fine with hiob picking one of them and going with it. Anybody's going to be a pushover as long as we're the only ones with Rifles.
If we decide to alienate Cyrus though, keep the Incas around. Despite all our negative diplo bonuses, they are pleased with us (we get +10 for being Hindu and having Hereditary Rule alone) and seem to enjoy agreeing to lopsided tech deals.
Get ready for War Weariness if we go to war though--we're fine at +24 on 70% science for now, but it didn't seem to take long for unhappiness to get out of hand. Also, taking Spain's 4 cities took us from +74 to +24 (!) on 70% sci--needless to say, a pretty big jump there. Move Palace to Delhi if we don't get State Property soon, perhaps? Another reason to screw my ambitious east-conquering plan and just go after Cyrus?
(PS- I see there's a new patch out. Any reason why we shouldn't upgrade? Saving memory in the late game is just what I need on my poc laptop...)
